It has been happening to me for the past couple of days; I have been starting discussions which are repeatations of previously started discussions.Previously I did not search the discussions for repeatation because this thing never happened to me before.But the last couple of days I have been very upset.
I have since then been very careful not to repeat previously posted topics.Now when I search I find that there have been maybe 4-5 discussions on the same exact topic.
For example the link below has a close likeness to this discussion:

But since that topic was centered in favour of repeat discussions, I am against this kind of repeatation.I wish mylot had something which gave us a warning message before a duplicate discussion is started.
For example the warning can be :
A similar discussion already exists.Would you like to respond to it instead of starting a new one, or something like that.It will atleast make the user aware of his repeatation.What do you think???

Yes. This is a good suggestion. But we are not sure as mylot will consider or not.Better make use of the search option to know about the previous discussion to avoid duplicate discussions. But some members used to post intentionally the duplicate posts. Yesterday I saw a discussion started by one of our members. Just two weeks back the same member has started the same discussion and unfortunately that discussion did not receive any response. Again yesterday the member started the same without any change .Fortunately that responses has received one response yesterday.Else he/she may start it the same again in few days. IF the option as you mentioned is available, such discussions may be avoided.

Practically searching wastes a lot of time, therefore less people search before starting a new discussion. Another reason is that a discussion can never be a duplicate of the other because each time it appears in RECENT discussions, new people get involved and we are expecting different responses. So a user may not respond same at similar discussions but mylot should alow us to start a discussion again from the begining.

If I rememeber correctlyl searching is in the FAQ and also strongly suggested by seasoned members of mylot. I search EVERY time I create a new discussion because repeated discussions usually get deleted...much like this one...which may be deleted because the concept was discussed already.

What a new idea. I do wish mylot would something like that.
Let them know your idea. they might think its a good
one,who knows? but some discussions are not really repeats of another if your discussion brings up a point not covered
in the supposedly similar discussions. I have done this,
triggered a discussion from a point not covered in the
other discussion but new and different from the discussion that triggered mine. nobody complained and I am sure mine was
original.

That's exactly what I am trying to say.They maybe on the same topic.This discussion is completely on that track.Like the link I posted on this discussion, it points towards the pros of the repeat discussions while I started this one which is more concerning the cons.

I hope so they will come up with that someday. I am aware that they are having a difficult time also to delete redundant or copy pasted topics specially those who were made by trolls.
Let's just hope for the best to come in Mylot. No site is perfect after all. These needs to be improved and i guess is still open for members suggestions to keep the site going on.

Yahoo answers has something like that. It's very useful, but still people tend to ignore it in favor of being the center of attention in a topic. a quick list of threads that look similar would be a great addition, but I expect some people to complain because it's similar to something on another site.
You can't please everybody. Progress is sometimes frowned upon for silly reasons.

Well this kind of things can happen in my-lot .There are so many topics and so many discussions that people often repeat the same discussion again and again .If you notice in my lot there are at least 20-30 "Whats your favorite movie?" thread.I don't know that people who start discussions on this kind of repeated topics aren't aware of the fact that its repeated ,or they do it intentionally .I have seen one in user in my friend list responding to a discussion once.. and after 4 -5 days he opens a discussion himself with the same question,I think its a kind of plagiarism and people should stop this rite now....

Although this problem is a big one on mylot. I don't forsee them making it easier on us to earn from them. If you can't take the time to simply search your discussion of interest beforehand then to me you don't deserve the whatever cents you make for that post anyway- and the amount will probaby be revoked anyway...so in essence..its not only more work on your part....its more work on mylots part that people don't take the time to use the search feature of the site. ** Maybe thats why they created a reward system for using the search feature**Also less time would be wasted in the end because you wouldn't be answering or creating discussions that would be deleted.

I have to admit to being one of the mylot members who ALWAYS utilizes the search option before starting a new discussion. And when I do find the topic I wanted to write about already posted- I just add to that discussion- the way we are supposed to do things here :)
It really urks me that people get away with posting the same discussions when I make it my business to try not and do so. I think that mylot should become alot stricter about duplicate discussions- especially those from repeat offenders. Maybe start decreasing their earnings- that may get their attention.

That is a very good idea. I am not sure if a program like that exists and if so how much it might cost to get it underway. It's a great idea and your wording for the warning message is also quite nice. Oh wait, I know that something like that exists as one of the forums I used to frequent (money making) had a search feature like that... However at the same time I think it was also more like mylot's search feature now... hmmm... I don't remember the name of the site though.
In any case, Your idea is a good one!

I agree that Mylot needs to look at that! I have seen repeated discussions before and it isn't fair! Especially when some Mylots try repeating discussions very few days! Some people I know some do this on purpose and they should stpped! I don't think it is unfair to punish newbees who join Mylot! This people have no idea this happens! So you can see if Mylot tries to do something about this it will be hard to do! I'm not saying it isn't impossible! I'm saying it will be hard because Mylot is so big! When this happens we need to report to Mylot and hopefully this will stop!
