A question about books and particular places

I am reading a book by Danielle Steel, it's called Thurston House. It's a very good book. Whilst reading this book I was reminded of up in the mountains, where My fiance and I both have distant relatives. I don't know what made me think of the area, but I had, and I was taken by surprise as it took me a moment to realize what I was seeing in my head... It was the mountains - like I said before! Wow! Thurston House is a good book, it's about a miner / miner owner! It portrays his life, and then later the life of his only daughter. For anyone who enjoys stories that are written in different time periods, especially those of the early days in America, then I recommend this book. Have you ever read a book that reminded you of a particular place? It could be somewhere you have lived, somewhere you have visited, or just somewhere you have heard about to such an extent that you can visualize the landscape. So... What book was it that made you think of the place?

This is an interesting discussion, and I know that books are a good way to go to a different place and time, and they can also teach you things, and help you broaden your mind as opposed to television, and I remember when you read the Thurston House and it did seem like it was a really good book,I am not sure of a book that took me back to a place but I remember when we read The Emigrants and Unto A Good Land it made me think of the old days and what the world must have looked like back in the eighteen hundreds and we really need to get The Emigrants,The Settlers and Last Letter Home so we can read the whole series and find out what happens,I love you with all my heart and soul, have a great day, good luck with all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting.

Well honey you know that I love to read books that are in the time period of the 1800's, I'm not sure why but I am just more into them then anything else. Of course, I also like James Patterson and crime, but I love a good book that makes you think and imagine a different time period. I'd love to be able to write, because I'd love to write about all the things I've thought about, but I don't have the patience to learn how to write in any good capacity that would have me published, and known if not everywhere then atleast in our county or state. I love you.

Yeah I know you like books that are in the eighteen hundreds, and I know you also like James Patterson and his crime books, and you also like Danielle Steel books as well don't you?I think you are a good writer, and I know it takes a lot of patience to be able to write and get published, and that is why a lot of people do not write books because they do not have the patience to see it through until the end,I love you with all of my heart and soul, have a great day, good luck with all of your mylotting goals, and Happy Posting Baby.

It is great to be wrapped up in a book that reminds us of ourselves, or of where we live or have visited! I appreciate the response and am sorry it took so long to respond!

Many times while reading a book I have been brought back to memories from my own life or places I have visited. Thurston House is a good one for doing that as well as a lot of other Danielle Steel's other books as well. I actually enjoy reading these type of books that you can relate with like this, and it actually for me makes the book more enjoyable as well.

i tend to not read fiction much but i am a history fanatic and to that end, i am reading danielle steel's 'message from nam', which gives you a snapshot of the 1960's. i like fiction writer's that are good at describing the sights, sounds and general atmoshpere of the area.

I have not read that yet, the Danielle Steel book I am reading is my mother in law's. Though I do believe that she has that book so I may read that in a bit. Yes Fiction Writer's that are good at describing the sights have more enjoyable books. Though I do think that maybe they go to visit the places that they are writing about so they have more of a sense of what to write about. Some author's, like James Patterson, gives credit to those in the city that he is writing about. Have you ever read any of his books?

I think that there are many books that bring certain places to mind. I cant think of the books that remind me of paces but I know that there are some that are really inducive of thinking of seashores or lake shores.

Many authors are very good at describing in their book, and it's lovely to read when they describe different types of lands - whether it be ocean or plains... This book (the one I'm reading) was talking of a valley at the time I was thinking of the mountains, I believe. Kind of an opposite effect, but nonetheless... In fact, I live in the country and if nothing else I should have thought of my surroundings, but yet I thought of the mountains, a place I haven't visited in years.

Not yet. They did make a movie in my old neighborhood though but I have still yet to see the movie, orered it from Netflix, but got a broken copy. So I am sure I will recognize things if I ever get to see the movie. It was not a big movie, it did not make it to the theaters, but it was a movie made from a real life story, and it starred Luke Perry. I got to watch a chase scene as they were filming it and Luke Perry had the truck sitting where we were standing and waved at us and gave us a thumbs up. That was pretty cool. I didn't even know that was going on. I had been at my parents house and was coming home and I could not get in to my subdivision because it was all blocked off from the front, there were other ways in but I wanted to know what was going on so I parked my car with a bunch of other cars and asked what was going on, and someone told me that Luke Perry was there and they were filming a movie, and sure enough there he was right in front of me.

Hi SomeCowgirl! It was a Stephan King novel called Desperation. It reminded me of my drive through the desert when I visited my grandmother a few years ago. It was perfectly described.

Definitely. Whenever I read Jane Austen, I automatically think of England - Bath in particular. Makes me want to go back but also brings back fantastic memories.
