I like sunflower seeds very much. I think it's my so called comfortable food. when i feel depressed or miss my family I wish i can have sunflower seeds to kill the time. Unluckily here in the UK it's very rare to see sunflower seeds, especially with its shell. I feel very upset. I do find it in some open market or farm shop, but the indications said they are for birds. I wonder what's the difference from birds seeds and seeds for human beings. Can i eat them? My question is do you like sunflower seeds? how often do you have it? can i eat the sunflower seeds for birds? Thanks in advance and happy Mylotting.

I do really enjoy sunflower seeds and appreciate all the good nutrients to it. This year i tried the experiment of throwing black oil sunflower seeds around my farm here and there and see what would happen... to my surprise a huge amount of them grew... now just like you i was wondering if i could eat them. I was going to prepare them just like regular sunflower seeds, wash them in water and salt to get the bug out, cook them in the oven with salt...but then again maybe they have an some sort of component that is not good for human??

I used to eat sunflower seeds all of the time. I find them very addicting. Especially the ones with the shell on them. I sometimes wonder if it is the sunflower seed that I like, or if it is the salt that the shell is covered with. LOL Although, I do like the sunflower seeds that are already shelled, but I have a tendency to eat them very quickly. Maybe it is because it takes a minute to deshell the others while they are in my mouth. I'm not sure I would like the ones for birds, because they don't have the salt. So I wouldn't really be able to tell you to much about those.

I’m glad to find one who loves sunflower seeds as I do. I did try the seeds for birds. From the taste you can not find any difference. Honestly I still worried so now I stopped eating them. Thanks for your response and happy mylotting.

I enjoy sunflower seeds too. I remember teaching my nephew how to eat the seeds and spit out the shells. Maybe you will find some in the UK. I would not eat the sunflower seeds for birds. They wouldn' be processed with the same health regulations as those for human consumption!
