Mona Lisa attacked - again

A Russian woman tried to damage the most famous painting in the world, Mona Lisa at Louvre. She threw a teacup at the painting. The painting is secured with a bullet proof glass so nothing happened to the painting. However this is not the first time somebody has tried to do such kind of thing. I was surprised to see that previously also people have tried to do similar things. In 1956 a guy threw acid at the painting and in the same year in another incident a person threw a stone at the painting. Why do yo think people do such kind of things. Do they do it just for getting public attention or is their motive something else?

I can't imagine why a person would attempt to damage such a famous and special painting. The Russian lady most have been mad. I went to see the Mana Lisa in the building in Paris. I imagine the lady wanted public attention. I wonder why people want to be bad and damage other's property. They should keep their hands to themselves.

yor are right, people should keep there hands to themselves. There is no reason to try to destroy the painting. If she did not like it then it is fine, it is her personal choice. But it does not give any reason to try such kind of act. Amazing how some people can act so wierdly sometimes.

I can't imagine why someone would do that. I think they would have to be pretty troubled, mentally. Maybe you are right and they are only seeking to be 'famous' for a little while, but I dont' think a normal person would like that kind of attention. I can't imagine why anyone would want to destroy a priceless work of art like that, it is a crime. It's hard to understand for sure.

yes I could not think of any other reason. Either these kind of people are mentally challanged or they are up for public attention. But I feel this is very bad way to get public attention. First of all you are trying to do something destructive, then you are getting not good publicity but bad publicity. Because of this some people will come to know about her but they will not respect her. So this is very lame idea to get publicity.

When a person goes about on a rampage for destroying a public property or a great piece of art, i believe, its a prevailing sense of saddism that motivates them. What other reason does she have to be so violent? And how stupid do they have to be to think that the painting wont be protected against such vandalism!! Destroying a great work of art would never accomplish anything and i really wonder what these people would be thinking when they go about it!!! Sometimes, it might be the media attention that they crave for.. After all, there is no such thing as bad publicity!!!

yes most of the times it is to get the media attention. But I think she forgot that after 5 minutes of media attention she will get some attention from the police as well. If some people are trying to destroy things like this they are actually trying to destroy the very best of our history. They do not understand what place these rare artifacts hold in human history.

I already read it from yahoo and hopefully the painting of Monalisa from Louvre museum is properly protected by the hard mirror which is covering it. The female woman maybe is quite jealous of her Mona lisa smile that she would like it to be destroyed. It is a great painting by Leonardo da Vinci. That is not the first time that painting was attacked and I think the person who do this is mentally ill or very jealous of the painting that it becomes famous. Or,maybe they have misinterpret the beauty of the painting have a curse to the onlooker and may be associated with some evil grin. It is really a strange things but person who do it tend to act diferently from the people who fall in line and adore its beauty. ALl I could say they are a bit lunatics and have mental problems..

Yes the painting is protected by bullet proof glass so it was not damaged even a bit. All kind of other mechanisms are in place to protect the painting. But I think it is difficult to stop when somebody does things like this. Yes most of the times it is because of some mental issues that people try to do things like this. But can it be that people are jealous of the painting. It was made by the great Leonardo da Vinci and I do not think anybody can match him, so why to get jealous of him.

I don't understand why people tend to do some of the things they do. People are way to complex. In some cases people have potential mental issues or something of the sort. Again, people are so complex that it is very hard to determine why they are destructive.

yes it is difficult to understand how people can behave in certain situations. Sometimes most rational people can behave strangely because of the circumstances they are in. This is the probably the case with this lady. She had some personal frustration due to which she did such an act. I do not think otherwise some sane person can do a deed like this.

I think its a real example of foolishness by whosoever attempted it because ruining such a brilliant art is the topmost example of stupidity and knowing that it has a glass on it and stil doing it is like adding cherry to the cake, hehehehehe........!!!

yes you are right. How can she think that she could destroy Mona Lisa with just a cup. I think Mona Lisa is the most protected atrifact in the world. And this lady thought she could damage that with just a cup. Height of foolishness.

as I read your discussion I was trying to figure out whysomeone would deliberately try to harm a great painting. Could it be they are jealous and Angry because they lack the talent to make a great painting like that? do they want attention at any cause. this really confuses me. I love great art and great music and can but Admire those talented people who can do these great things. what a pity these would be destroyers are bent on that stupid attempts to destroy something precious and priceless.

Yes may be it can be because of jealousy also. But it can be understood if we feel jaelous of our peers but if we feel jealous of great people like Leonardo da Vinci was then it can not be understood. But even to do something like this to get fame for 5 minutes seems like a bad idea. Anyways hope nobody tries things like this in future.

I do not get why people would want to damage such a beautiful painting like the Mona Lisa. There is no point in doing this as they will always get caught. If they hate the Mona Lisa for some reason, keep it to themselves unless they are mental or something.

yes it is hard to understand what drives people to do such an act. They gain nothing out of it. May be 10 minutes fame, that is it. She can not get more than this. I guess this is more because of mental issues that some people have. They have some problems in their lives and they try to do such kind of acts in frustration.

I think people just dont really think about what exactly their doing. She knew it was protected when she stood in front of it and threw the cup. Did she think she had some magic power that would make it break? I think not. Simply a publicity stunt.. A rude one at that

Yes simply a publicity stunt. Mona Lisa is protected like anything so too difficult to damage it. How can she think she can do it with a stupid cup.
