Doped, or Just Dopey?

Yesterday I went to the dr. with one of my dearest friends. She has been having some trouble with kidney stones. She had to go back to the hospital today to have a procedure done to break the stones up. When she called me to let me know that everything went ok, she was still pretty groggy. Yesterday, she would start to say something, then lose her train of thought. I laughed a couple of times just because she was doped up enough that, well, she was just funny. She just wanted all her friends to know that she is ok, and will be back around as soon as she can. She could have done a much better discussion on this than I am doing, but......well, she's not here, and I am, so deal with the fact that I am not a great wordsmith. I'm not even a good one. Now, to make this a discussion. Have you ever been doped up on pain medication? What sort of funny things did you do or say? If you've never been doped up, have you ever just sat back and watched someone who is? Did you find it as amusing as I do, sometimes?

I can't say that I have ever seen or done anything amusing whilst doped up Bo. Although I am of course pretty dopey most of the time anyway! However, I just wanted to say how pleased I am that your friend is recovering now. I could dance a little Irish jig of happiness!

I can't take any kind of pain meds so, I don't know how I would be on them. I think I would probably just lie down and pass out from them, though.

yes,it has happened to me,a few months back,i had to take a few stitches on my forehead and for that i had to take a local anaesthesia and painkillers, the condition of mine was similar to that of your friends and i have also seen other friends in various stages of recovery from anaesthesia.

Do you stay awake and become silly, or do you just pass out from the pain meds? I sometimes don't really see how people can stay awake after taking some of those meds.

i feel very drowsy after taking some of the painkillers but there have been times when i had to stay awake due to kids fussiness or crankiness but i think i became more crankier than them(my hubbys version)

I had a strong dose of Ibuprofen for a whiplash injury and couldn't walk in a straight line. I 'floated' off to bed with a silly smile on my face and dreamed that a close friend had been wrongly accused of a crime and was on trial in a court of law... all fairly normal except that the proceedings were taking place at the local theatre and all the officials were squirrels... a little judge squirrel complete with wig and gavel... all the little barrister squirrels...and the police officer squirrels....

*L* I am dopey enough without any help, Leenie. I am good. Just trying to discipline myself, and spend more time working than on line. Getting a lot done, too. Hopefully, I will soon be caught up enough that I can come in and participate more here.

I can say I have entertained surgeons while anesthetized. Apparently, I have PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), which only rears it's ugly head when I am pre & post operative. one time, it took three burly security guys to wrastle me down after a colonoscopy. I remember NONE of it! thank gawd... So I now warn my surgical team that I specialize in anesthesia theatrics :) My mom starts radiation treatments next week, so maybe that will provide me with more medical humor. BTW, I'm STILL waiting for the valium promised in a separate post!

Ummmm, I promised you valum? Me? Hmmmm, I only took valum once in my life, after a car wreck. The dr. gave it to me so that I could sleep that night. It didn't work, it kept me up half the night!*L* So, if I promised you valum......*Takes out a 20 something year old bottle and hands it to JodiLynn* My daughter is quite funny when she is sedated. She moves her lips, like she is talking, but doesn't say anything. When you tell her that she's not saying anything, she gets really loud, and the words that do come out don't make sense. When you ask her what she is talking about, a little tear rolls down her cheek and she waves you away. At that point, I feel badly for her and give her a kiss on the forehead. But, it is still funny, and I have to giggle , just a little.

no no no, lol, I didn't mean YOU promised me valium, I'm sorry I implied that :( they say crying is a very natural response to sedation (or coming to after sedation). personally, i would love to have video of whatever it is that I do/say when anesthetized, wait...maybe not...my luck it would end up on you tube!

hi bohemianheart hatley here my you take me back to the time when I was 33 and had had a hysterectomy. I was so groggy when I woke from the surgery, and my hubby was there of course. well he asked me if I wanted to see my mom and sis since they were waiting in the vistors lounge. well doped up like I was I thought he said would I like to get in a wheelchair and go out to the vistors lounge. I loudly and vehemently yelled, No Im too sleepy. cant ride. go away. well my hubby having worked as an orderly for years realized I was just not working on all four cylinders yet. He went out and told my mom and sis that I was not really awake enough yet to visit. they were ticked off, and the next day he came and i was awake alert and complaining about my mom and my sister not coming to see me. He laughed and told me how I hAd told him I didnt want to see anyone. He admitted he had also told my mom I didnt want to see anyone. that had sort of ticked her off. but when I explained how groggy and confused I was she got over it and laughed at the whole thing;.I loved my mom and in my lucid mind would never have said I didnt want to see her.

My mom was kind of funny when she had her hip replaced. She is not real big on any kind of pain meds. But, they shot her full of morphine after the surgery. My brothers and sister were there as the wheeled her into recovery. They said she was pretty funny.
