I Discovered A New Texting Feature I Didn't Know Existed!!

Canada

My husband was telling me that his daughter sent a text message to his landline phone, and when the phone rang, the message was spoken out loud to him. What a neat idea!! I tried it with my cellphone, sending a message to the other line, and it worked. How cool is that? Has anyone else tried this?

This is the first I've ever heard of it. I just sent a text message to my friends land line here, I am still waiting for the land line to ring here.....5 mins so far and nothing. I'll keep waiting and if it doesn't come through then I'll just assume that it must be your carrier for your land line. I'm also seeing how the sms works, if at all on the landline....sms works to a landline phone. It gave a phone number for me to call to retrieve the message I left myself!!

I have seen where there is a possibility to do something like this as a friend of mine from church sent me a Text message with music also being sung in the background. I just have never tried this out myself, and since all phones do not always accept this type I am not sure how to go about sending something like this even if it does sound interesting to want to try.

Wow, I've never heard of that! It does sound like it would be fun to play around with. I wonder if my daughter knows anything about it, I will have to check with her. I can see some silly fun here with that feature, if it works for us I mean.

I didn't know it could do this! Awesome!! Gosh, makes me wonder what else it can do as well as the computer and other electronic equipment, doesn't it with you? Thanks for passing this on!! What a cool feature!

Dear danishcanadian, I have text a message and send to my land line. I get my son to stand next to the phone. It seems it do not works in Malaysia. No ringing on my land line phone at all. If it really works, that will be really fun Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed reading all the responses here. Do keep in touch! Hope to hear your views on my topics too!

I have never used it but I have received texts on my landline twice. The first time scared the freakin' cr*p out of me because the message was, "I can see what you are doing". It was during the day but I was home alone with a 5 year old I was babysitting. I tried to call back and just heard a lot of voices and a hang-up, so I called the police. It scared me that much. The police called the number and got the same thing I did the first time, then he tried again and the phone had been turned off so he confirmed it was a text message. He said to let him know if it happened again. Once I found out what happened it made perfect sense, but at the time I was scared. One of my daughter's friends had loaned her cell phone to someone and she thought she was texting someone across the classroom, hence the "I can see what you are doing." I guess if you are making a long distance call and don't want extra charges, it would be cheaper to text a landline, otherwise I can't see any reason to use this service. I mean, just phone the person. I have made so-called long distance calls on my cell phone and have never gotten charged for them. I think the text on landline is kind of creepy.

Wow! I've never heard of that. I will have to try it, but we're going to have to erase the 400 messages or so we've never listened to on our landline. Thanks for the info.

Oh, wow, really? That is neat. I have never heard of doing that before either. I will have to try it sometime on my home phone also. That is very innovative. I bet my daughter does not know about this either.

Yes my daughter send me one like that once. It was funny because it sounded really strange. WHen I picked up the phone I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but that automatic voice sounding out the words really made me laugh. I think it is a neat idea:)

Really Cool! I did it once as a morning call to a friend. The friend thought I was using some operator operated calling devise. What I did was merely type my message in a professional manner and then text the message to his house number. Pretty cool! That is provided you know the recipient will pick up the call. Otherwise the message may go to somebody else instead!

I have never tried it, but will now! Does it matter which carrier you use?
