Should an employer tell an employee that they aren't going to get paid?

My partner checked my bank account today, as I get paid weekly on Fridays, but I had no money. I've been off sick and had long term sick visits, I checked the notes from the last one in case I was meant to send them something, but I didn't have to. What is says is "I will write to your doctor this week (which was the beginning of July) When the report is in, we will come back to see you regarding this" I haven't heard anything since then and the only thing I can think is that my Drs. Note has ran out, but the last couple of times, work called to let me know it had ran out. I am owed over 60 hours of holiday pay, but they keep stalling with it, I know I am entitled to it because my manager and the lady from HR told me I was. My partner went in, but the person he needed to talk to was busy serving customers, so she's supposed to be calling me later. Does anyone have any advice on this?

I assume you work at a grocery store as this is the topic it is posted in. I'm also assuming your a higher up employee or that you've been there for quite sometime. I am not aware of holiday pay for just regular employees of a grocery store, so I can't say much. If your entitled to it though, I would suggest contacting both your immediate supervisor and HR to talk to them about it. It may have just been an error, we're supposed to be coming out of this recession, so I don't see why the grocery store would dock you any pay intentionally.

Hi Cowgirl. This person is in England where every employer is entitled to holiday pay regardless of their role.

Oh okay, lol, I don't check profiles that often! Either way, HR's the way to go!

Is this the first time happening to you like this?Is there anything like this related in the agreement you have signed before joining?Probably you would have missed it earlier. Now,you have no other way to explain in person again about your inabilities and wait for the employer to consider things for you in a kind way.Hope everything turns in favor of you.Cheers!

I've been paid fine up until today. So I don't know what's going on, I will call HR but, as my partner has asked someone to call me, I was hoping they would.

I don't know all the complicated bits but it is the employer's responsibility to tell you if they aren't going to pay you. I don't know about the doctor's note thingy. Perhaps you should have had a new one and your employer might have expected you to know that or whatever. Apart from all that, if you are owed holiday pay then you are entitled to ask for that. Even if you are no longer entitled to sick pay for whatever reason, you can still request that the employer pays holiday pay. There is no good reason to deny you that.
