For me I think it is drinking plenty of water, no sugar or salt and plenty of exercise. BUT, are there little gems of wisdom known only to you that a person needs to know to really lose weight?

I guess my key ingredient is not over eating. I read that it takes the brain 5 minutes to realize you are full. If you are a fast eater then for 5 minutes you are eating food your body doesn't need. We are also often brought up to clean our plates and that's great but if your not hungry there is nothing wrong with saving what is left until you are. I think that it is also key to eat things that are good for us to though.

Ya, I think you are so right! I can remember times I would eat an entire box of cookies and not even realize it. So easy to get into bad habits too.

There are three key ingredients that I've discovered this year on my road to losing weight. 1) Make sure you eat a little something every 4-5 hours to keep your metabolism going. 2) Water, water, water, water. It helps keep you full so you aren't tempted to eat a lot of junk food. 3)Don't totally eliminate anything from your diet, if you are craving it, eat it but only in moderation. I've lost 30 pounds this year and hope to lose that much more by the end of the year.

Well at the risk of having wet noodles flung at me, for most of my life I've been pretty much a beanpole...LOL. In fact when I was a kid my mother took me to the doctor's to see about a medication to make me gain weight. the joke in the family was that my grandmother and mother could gain weight just by looking at food, while my father's family could eat a whole cow at every meal and not gain weight...uh, guess I took after them (thank goodness)---Now it's not like I can't gain weight..I started packing the pounds when I got seriously into cooking especially French food--you might say I was doing my own Julia & Juile thing...you know like that movie about Julia Child and Julie Powell? In my case it was Jacques Pepin--so with all that heavy French cooking I did indeed gain weight. I now do a bit of modified French cooking so it's not so fattening The thing that seems to work for me and my metabolism is to eat quite literally all the time...you heard right...I eat on a average six times a day/night,...but very, very small portions--I don't eat too much junk food, no deep fried foods, no fast foods, no soda, just water and juices...

Oh, for God's sake don't tell me you are one of those?! Ha ha. Just kidding although I am very jealous. Don't want to skinny just at goal weight of between 135-150. That would be fine. I set infront of the PC too darned much! Yes, I so agree with the eating all the time. I eat snacks instead of meals and do so about six times a day. I have been drinking some pop lately but will quit that in September. No fried foods, alittle fast food, and lots of water and juice too. Love that new acai juice. Yum!

I will agree with drinking water I notice when I have 10 or more glasses of water a day I lose more weight. But I also think that will power is part of dieting. We need to learn to change our habits on the inside as well as the outside. You need to retrain yourself to think. We can't keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results. I have lost 15lbs in the last 2 months, but it has been kind of hard trying to not eat when I am bored or not hungry. It has been more changing my habits and drinking water than anything.

Hi celtic! I was never very good when I had to diet so I'm not really sure I will be of much help to you! A good diet, watching what you eat, getting exercise even if it's just walking and drinking lots of water is the key and you already said that so you are on the right path! Those are the things that work! That and patience! I also have found that if you want to snack, eat fruit or yogurt! That's what helps me with my sweet cravings! I love Dannon Lite and Fit Yogurt! For me that is my after dinner treat when I feel like I want something sweet later on in the evening! That way I don't feel like I'm cheating because it's low calorie and tastes really good!

I don't really know what they keys are. After I had a baby I tried everything to loose weight and nothing worked. Finally when I started getting sleep again and my health got back to normal the weight just fell off. I guess you need to be healthy and get plenty of rest in order to loose weight.
