I get back to work from vacation and there is an invite from my boss's boss for noon to have lunch and meet our VP. VP never did make it, but I got a sandwich, salad, a brownie and a drink out of it. Could have had chips too. lol I guess SOMEBODY had to pay for it, but far as I'm concerned there IS such thing as a free lunch. So there!

So you think that was a free lunch? Well let me introduce a small doubt here. Do you value your time? How much should you be paid for your time? Do you get a lunch time each day? Are you paid for that lunch time or do you still work 8 hours on top of your lunch? I'm sure you see where I'm going on this. You gave up your lunch time to go to a luncheon meeting requested by your Boss. In other words the least the Boss can do is pay for your lunch.

Yeah and I should point that out to the clown who scheduled the 12:30 - 1:00 meeting today! lol
You're not the first person who pointed out that I paid with my time! But at least I did get to meet a few people who are over in the other building that I have never seen face to face.

Free lunch? Well in our office, when someone celebrates their birthday, especially those who earns better than ours, they treat everybody with free lunch. What usually we have during these occasions are "puso" (hanging rice), with pork and chicken barbeque or lechon (roasted pork).

Hanging Rice or what locally known in Cebu as "puso" (pooo-so) is the main food here. Rice is placed in a small package made from coconut palm leaves before it will be placed in boiling water, to cook it.
I searched Youtube and I saw this one, how to make the "puso" package from coconut palm leaves:

the one place i worked for would give us pizza once a month or so..
usually because it was a sunday and gauranteed we'd be there overtime.
even tho i don't like working on a full stomach, you bet i wasn't passing up free.
especially out of those cheap b***ards.

hahaha and my company has gotten a bit cheaper as the economy's worsened, so I wasn't about to turn down free food either! :-)

You'll think that lunch was free until you go to ask for a raise and they say "well, because of that one lunch we had..."
lol, just kidding. I used to work in a doctor's office and they would host lunches all the time. It was great since I was broke and could barely afford lunch! I guess the doctor bought too many lunches to pay me what I was worth. And that explains why I don't work there anymore. ha ha.

We get lunches and breakfast and so on every so often. Sometimes there are even no strings attached! :-)

I go out to eat with clients one day a week, and I get reimbursed for the meal, up to seven dollars. That is my free lunch.

Well OK technically it wasn't free. It didn't even serve the company's objective since the VP didn't make it. But I sure am not complaining! :-)

As long as you enjoyed spending time with the people you had to be with to get the lunch, then it was free. But usually even if you don't have to pay monetarily, there is some other price to be payed which is your time if not something worse.

My time, but I did get to meet some people that I work with, so that was OK.

Nice, nothing better then a free lunch. If you keep your eyes open you can find lots of free lunches in this economy. Businesses are giving out free food left and right. For example you can get a free taco from Del Taco on the 27th, if you follow this link and have one sent to your email. http://www.tacoforgiveness.com/index.php
There are a ton of deals available for those willing to look around.

Well the free food is a free lunch, but believe it or not you still paid for it.
In something far more valuable then money too. Your time. Now, I don't know, perhaps you go out for lunch everyday, too meet someone that doesn't show up. So then it would be normal. Perhaps you normally just rush down to a street vendor and grab a quick bite, with no thoughts of work crossing your mind at all.
If I were in your position I would be slightly annoyed my time got wasted, but I would still be happy with the food.
Cheers.

I guess my time wasn't totally wasted. I got to meet a few people in person that I'd only spoken to on the phone. But I didn't get my walk. Oh well, I can do that later... Usually I eat some place nearby or go home or occasionally bring my lunch.
