A Real Hero.. and a Mayor.

It's not often we get to say the words "politician" and "hero" together. Especially not in the context of the heroic act being done while the politician is in office. But Mayor Tom Barrett is such a mayor. While leaving the Wisconsin State Fair last weekend, he witnessed a 55 year old woman being attacked. He could have fled the scene, caring only about his own safety. He could have worried what the political fallout of being in such a place might be, and came up with some kind of cover story placing him somewhere else at the time. He could have gone home and slept off some of the beer he most likely consumed at the fair (after all, this is in Milwaukee ;~D). He even would have been completely right by merely dialing 9-11 and reporting the incident. Surely all my fellow Milwaukee EMS workers would have come running to the rescue had the Mayor reported it. What did he do? He intervened. He risked life and limb to try to stop a 20 year old man from assaulting this grandmother and a baby. He did it with his own 2 kids and a niece in tow... For his trouble, he was beaten with a lead pipe. He sustained injuries to his hand, his body and his face... including loss of a couple of teeth. 20 year old, Anthony Peters has been arrested and charged with the crime. I don't agere with Barret's politics.. although I have agreed with him at times also. But he is a hero in every definition that matters. To their credit, Gov. Doyle and Prs. Obama have both made statements in recognition of Mayor Barrett and his actions. http://news.aol.com/article/milwaukee-mayor-tom-barrett-hit-with/624028?icid=main|aimzones|dl1|link6|http%3A%2F%2Fnews.aol.com%2Farticle%2Fmilwaukee-mayor-tom-barrett-hit-with%2F624028

That's pretty impressive. It's really a shame that all of the children has to witness such an action. I don't know what his politics are but, I would rather have him than my crazy mayor, he was on youtube acting like the complete idiot he is. I hope Mayor Barrett has a speedy recovery.

I would say he reacted as a red blooded American man, politics aside. If you see someone who needs help, you help as best you can. My sympathy and my admiration go out to this mayor.

Yes i agree with you, he is a hero. To many other people would have just walked right on by, and not even cared. You here about it all the time in broad daylight on a busy street and nobody helps. Im glad to here that their is still some that will step in and help.
