Wide load in the fast lane

While we were driving to Florida last week, there was a tractor trailer with a "Wide Load". It was properly marked, and had the right "escort" and all, but it was driving in the fast lane on the highway. My husband was pretty sure it was some sort of violation and that it's not supposed to be in that lane. It was slowing things down for a while, but the truck was also passing someone in the slow lane who was doing about 5 miles below the speed limit.
I tried to look it up on the web, but there's way too much info on it so I'm going to have to wonder about it.
Do you think the truck should have gone in the fast lane or just waited patiently behind the super-slow car in the slow lane?

I have to ask him about it, because he kinda works with that kind of stuff. He was going to look into it, but I think he forgot... But I'm with you, I don't think he was in the wrong because he was passing a much slower vehicle and he got back over right away to let everyone else go.

I am not sure about the wide load, but otherwise, if he needed to pass that pokey person, he was right to move to the fast lane. I think if he were moving fast enough to pass someone he would be allowed in the fast lane.

I agree totally. Now, there were a few places where there was more than 2 lanes and it was marked no trucks in the left lane. But this time there were only 2 lanes and that's the only way they coulda passed.
