all people here use underground water which are gettable through the hand pumps. we push the pump and the water comes out. we use this water for all works like drinking, bathing, cooking washing etc. but the more severe problem here is that the water table is enormously going down and the pumps are drying... water problems are arrising at an accelerating rate. we bring water from my grandma's house for use.

We have the water supply from municipal corporation. In which part of India you live? As i know hand pumps are used in remote areas only and now as the development is going on so they are connecting remote areas also through their main supply. Towns here are connected through supply by MC

Hello coolcat. In our city in the past there were quite a few wells for people to use water from, but later the wells in the city are gone with the use of the water from water factory. It is much convenient to use water from the water factory through those water pipes.

We use water from the corporation. It comes once in 3 days but is fairly enough for all of us. Although sometimes we have to bring water from our grandparents' house but it is rarely. If the monsoon is good enough there will be no problem with the water supply for the entire year. But in the recent years the monsoons have not been up to the mark and every year there is a possibility of a severe drought.

Hi Coolcat, how are you? You must be from India, my country, aren't you? We in our place used to use hand pumps till 2005, after that we transferred our house and now we use summer sewer motors to store water for drinking, bathing etc. I liked handpumps pal, I love to pump water from it and use the water. Water used to be cold, isn't it?

My grandparents, while still living, used a well. The water for drinking they brought in in barrels from a certified pure well, and the cleaning and bathing water either came from a cistern or was pumped from a more shallow well. The cistern caught the rain water run off from their house. I live in a city, with city water that is purified and comes in from pipes. It is metered and we pay for what we use.

Even though we have a sump for the water, at times when the pumping motor fails, we also pump our water through the hand pump. The only difference is, we pump the water which is supplied by the corporation through its water pipes and not the ground water, which is quite salty and not fit for consumption.
