When you shop for any item at the store, usually the label or the box tells you where the item made. It could be any countries in the world, Made in China, made in USA, made in Japan, etc, etc. I just wonder if it does matter to you where this item you want to purchase made? This afternoon when I shop, one lady in front of me ready to pay for her items, and she cancelled her purchase because it "made in china". For me it really don't matter as long as the item works properly and there are no product recall on it.

If I really want it then no it doesn't really matter. Having said that however, I do like to buy locally made stuff because it keeps someone in this country in a job. And we all need that don't we? I guess it just depends what it is I am buying.

That's a good point. If your serious about buying home made you have to check the labels. Also sometimes things that you believe are USA companies are often owned by foreign companies, like Japan or something. Guess sometimes its hard to know what your really buying.

Here there is still a colonial mentality if the products are made abroad they going to buy if locally made they underestimated their own product. I agree that we should buy our own product to help our economy. Not imported products have a good quality many local products can compete when it comes to quality and durability. Many local products are exported and the sad reality of it they change the country in where it is made because people look also the manufacturing place.

Yes I do see where the particular item has been made or its parts has been made. There is definitely diffence in quality irrespective of the brand of the item being madein diffrent countries. Generally for electronic items which have their parent location of manufacturing and research unit at a particular country, they often give tenure to other countries to make parts or even the same product. It ultimately ends up in decrease in quality inspite of having set standards for quality. Let me tell u a simple example of vaseline lip guard which has its parent company in usa. I have been using their lip guard since 10 years and recently i got one from usa. I was surprised to find the alarming diffrence in quality. While the Indian product mosturuses my lip for hardly one hour, the one from usa keep it mosturised it for more than 3 hrs. So it does make a diffrence.

I found that too with personal hygiene product. The original here in US, usually it is Made in USA and they have better quality. So, with personal hygiene stuff usually I prefer to get the ones that original.

I think it is the same with all the products made outside the parent country. The quality tend to deteriorate. Even in the case of casio watches (I recently bought one for my husband) which has its dial made in thailand and the strap in china. It is also much cheaper to the original we get in Japan.

Well the Indian market is not yet opened completely to imports on every items so the shops are not really flooded with goods made outside India. Except for gourmet food items and some other select items available at expensive shopping malls, most products are Indian made. However, nowadays I see the market in manufactured goods or spare parts being flooded with Chinese products. I don’t buy them as much as possible mainly because these are use and throw items. Once broken down, there’s no way you can repair them and there’s no guarantee period as to how long they would run. They might break down just the second day of use and there’s nothing you can do about it. No replacements, no repair.

That's what I try to avoid too. Buying craps. A lot of them are so cheap, but like you said When it breaks, no replacement and no repair.

it doesn't really matter to me. What matters to me is the quality and the price tag but when I go shopping with my grandmother, she wouldn't buy anything from China even though that's where she's from. She keep saying that the item would be bad if it's made in China and if it is food, it would be harmful. I've also seen the news of the products made in China but I think US would watch their imports carefully

Hi ibuemma, Usually I didn't look at the "Made in ... " label. There are a lot of international/well establish producer going to the 3rd world countries to produce their product because of cost efficiency. If I am looking for a certain product I will look at the producer brand rather then where it has been made. But for some electronics product, I will look its label. I want to know where this product being made. I try to avoid some products from some countries because of safety reason. Some products from certain countries doesn't have any safety measure at all and it is totally not good. It might be a lot cheaper but it can cost you a lot more if something bad happen.

You absolutely right about the electronics. One time I bought the toaster oven, and yes, it so cheap, and it end up caught on fire. I definitely extra careful when it comes to electric and electronics product.

I never ever check where its from i think i agree with you, If its someting that i want and it works then who cares where it came from?? Unless you found out it was from a third world country factory with 5 year olds working in it! But you only ever find things like that out when you watch the news.

I prefer buying items when I can that are made in the USA. I personally hate sending all our the jobs from the USA to other countries because it's taking away jobs from good, hardworking American people. I personally think it's crap that jobs are taken from Americans and then people in other countries literally get paid slave labor and work 20 hours a day to produce items that we buy here in America and most of the American people have NO idea that it occurs. However, that doesn't stop me from buying items that are made in other countries. It's something that you really cannot avoid anymore. It just happens. I just buy what I can but I tend to buy more products and more from companies that are American.

Really do no pay attention to be honest with you. I am more concerned about price than who made it. I have a friend though that will not buy if it is not made in the U.S.A. He feels that it helps to keep jobs in the country. I do not have time to worry about petty things like this personally.

I'm concerned about the price too instead of where it made. And these day it's actually hard to find that really label Made in USA. Couple times I did found out that Made in USA has better quality.

well yes and no, if I really want something then I will buy it, although I would choose a british made product over a foreign manufactured product if there were very similar. Though I do only eat british meat and fish etc etc and always try and get british veg etc etc if I can I would rather give my money to the uk economy then see it go oversea's.

I don't care where the item is made. If I like it, I buy it. So whether its made in Iraq or in Congo as long as the product suits my needs then I'll buy it.

Hi ibuemma. I agree that we tend to stay away from "Made in China" goods for the simple reason that they're known to be of inferior quality due to lack of quality assurance. However, not all Made in China products are bad. I wouldn't want to buy their electronic goods that are copycats of the original ones. However, if those goods are licensed from a foreign and well-established company, then i'd consider buying it. Until consumers have strong confidence in the quality of Made in Chine products, they will always be skeptical about purchasing them.

I have become more inquisitive about where the products are made. I look at it this way, if i buy things that are made in the USA, then i am supporting the USA, and i feel better, knowing that i support my own country. If i buy vegetables, i choose to buy from the local farmers in Texas, than i had to buy fruits and vegetables that are imported, or that come from another state, therefore, i am supporting my neighbor, my town, and my state.

Chinese goods do have a bad reputation. Most people are wary of chinese goods. If I am buying a new product I like to see where the product was made. If its a well known brand then I am not too concerned about the country where it was made. I like to get proper working products for the money that I am spending.

HI Friend, I just look for utility of the item. If item is useful to me then I go for it if not then I have no need of it. Simple. Brand and manufacturing countries doesn't matter for me a lot.

Well, it depends on quality of product which matters to me. I first see the quality and if the quality is really good then after that I see where it is made. It doesn't matter or bother me from where it is made only when the product or material I am buying is of good quality otherwise I won't buy even a costly thing if it's quality is bad. Once I bought a Benetton shirt 'brown color' which got faded in just one wash. I told the dealer about it and he said he can't change it. I just it is so costly and he is saying he can't change it. Then I said to keep that shirt with themselves..what will do with it. I was so angry. I throw it there and said, I don't think from next time I am going to buy any shirt from here then he apologized to me and asked me to take any other shirt in exchange.

Hi! For me, it depends on what type of item I am buying. Quality is my top priority when purchasing and I believe that it is the brand that affects quality and not the country where it is made. For example, there are a lot of branded items that are made in Asian countries, outsourced by their companies because of cheaper labor, but the quality is specified by the brand; so with this fact I know and am confident that the quality is consistent. There are also many items that are of Chinese brand (and made) that are quite high in quality. However, there are many emails circulating nowadays about China made items which came from unhygienic/unsanitary raw materials so I cannot blame the lady that she canceled her purchase when the label said it was "made in china". To be on the safe side, I base my purchase on quality, and not on the country where it is made :) And one way of ensuring top quality is by brand :)

That is a problem for it is just what you said making our country loss work and money and pride in it's self. If we keep taking that aproach soon we will have no country and be buying everything from everyone else but us. Taking pride in what we make should be our first thing we do then make sure we support our country by buying as much as possiable "made in the US" for pride, support and the future of our country.
