Most ppl at one time or another have daydreamed about having a special ability…being invisible, reading minds, moving things from one spot to another. They think of all the great things they could do. Very few ppl think of the problems that come along with the ability. Reading minds might be cool to think about but in reality it would be a really hard ability to have…always hearing what others are thinking, dealing with ppl saying mean things about in their mind or hearing things you were never meant to hear. If ppl found out you could do it, no one would want to be anywhere around you for fear of what you might hear. Not to mention the government would scoop you up in a heartbeat. I think if I had the ability it would be more trouble then it was worth. I couldn’t stand to be around anyone and I’d probably want to get rid of it any way I could. Would you like to be able to read minds? Do you think it would be a good or bad thing? How do you think you’d use it? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I'd love to be able to read minds...but I'd also like the ability to turn it off and on. I really wouldn't want to read the minds of my family (with a few exeptions) or closest friends, but would love that ability when faced with a salesman, or other similar situations. Now, anyone with teenagers would certainly benefit from being able to read minds...especially theirs!

I think if it could be turned off and on it would be ok, but to have it on all the time, I think it would drive me nuts. I'm not sure how much I would want to read a teens mind... ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Well, if you could control it and just hear someone's thoughts when you wanted to, it might not be so bad but if as in that movie where Mel suddenly acquires the "gift" and can hear EVERY woman's thoughts on the street or in a cafe... well, one might go bonkers very quickly.

I sometimes think that being a mind reader would be a very good idea, but I reckon if people knew what I was thinking I'd get locked in a loony bin fairly quickly. ;) I do have a 'gift' if you can call it that, well, I have a couple, the one I'll talk about here is 'empathy', I am an empath, which means I sometimes feel exactly what another person is feeling, this can cause more problems than it solves sometimes, it's quite annoying for instance when I get really sad feeling and I don't know who it's connected to, especially if I get the feeling late at night, so I can't ring anyone. On the other hand, it is useful, I know when some people are upset before they tell me, I also seem able to know if someone's pregnant before they tell me too, which is ok for me, but it tends to spoil the surprise for the pregnant person. So, I would say, no to mind reading and yes to the gifts I have.

well, I write fiction about people that can do this, but they have shields so they aren't bombarded by unwanted thoughts all the time, and they keep themselves secret so the government doesn't try and use them.

I'd be called a weirdo if that ever happens and might go out of my mind if i start reading other people's thoughts. but i kept thinking about it If i can do these for Heroic and Patriotic reasons like busting out corrupt officials, most specially corrupted Cops.It would make a difference to my country and probably exposed their secret and illegal activities..

I am in complete agreement with you on this. There are ocassions when it would be great to know what someone was really thinking about a certain incident, butit would not take long to realise the pitfalls of hearing all thoughts. Very often we think badly of someone or consider them stupid for doing certain things, whereas our overall opinion of them is good. If a person heard all the thoughts of disagreement then they would end up with a wrong impression of their own popularity.

I can read some people's minds sometimes if I know them very well. I think it can be a good thing but it is also a bad thing if you know what they will say or do, will get on your nerves before it ever happens.

Probably not, it sounds good but it would not be things that you would want to hear..If i did have that ability I would keep it such a secret no one would ever know....Even the people we love we have negatives feelings toward them at times....besides i have always wished to be able to do this on occassion, not always it would not be a good thing but a bad thing...

In a way, it would be fun to be able to read minds but only if I could telepath back to them without them knowing it was me doing it. lol Don't think I would want to be able to do that all the time though cause it would eventually drive me looneytuney. Bad enough I have voices in my head agruing when I'm trying to sleep.

I think that there is flip side to most of the gifts that we are given... and that they can be a blessing or a curse depending on how we look at them and how we use them. To be able to exercise some control over this gift would be a good thing... to be overwhelmed by the inner voices of others, so that one does not know where they begin and the others end (or so that one is confused about what others are thinking and feeling and what they themselves are thinking and feeling) would be problematic. It would also be problematic to find out what others are thinking if you could not let them know that you know what they are thinking and wish somehow to change their thoughts about something or, even worse, about yourself, and do not have the skills to change their perspectives... It would though be nice to be able to communicate with a baby or with someone who does not have the ability to talk and to understand their wants and needs and feelings... It would also be great to understand what an animal is thinking and or feeling (as if one can do this for a non speaking individual, perhaps it would be easy to communicate with an animal too.) I would not mind the gift... with the ability to control it... and the wisdom to use it properly for the good of all peoples.

While it might be fun at first, mind reading would, as you said, become more of a curse than anything else and people would certainly avoid you like the plague if they knew you could read their minds!

I think being able to read perples minds would be an intrsresting ablitly. but could you control it? that would be the problem. I do not think I would want that ablilty becase it could create all kinds of proplems that you never inteded to have. your frindships and relatiohsips will be affected once you know what persons turly felft about you. also there is the potiaily it you get discovered, someone in authurty may try to capute you and hold you agaist your will. then of course the ability can cropt you as well, such as aiding you in the commison of a crime.

I used to like to read other people's mind but now I hope that I don't try something silly like that. We can only read our own mind as it can tell us about all we ever needed. It does have the potential to read minds but it is a gift with a sacrifice. You have to build in faith and stand strong in your beliefs....Can't I copy your lines...lol...Anyway...I will still enjoy daydreaming about having other special ability..then again...maybe that's not what we really wanted. As yourself this question, what do I really want with such ability...will we use it for good or bad...and stuff like that. But we have all we ever wanted and it is already given by God and that is LIFE itself..Enjoy your life ^__^ oh...almost forget, happy mylotting...

Hi twoey, you maybe surprised that there are people with that ability and it just comes naturally to them, it is called ESP, I have actually met a lady who was quite upset with the fact she could walk down the road but 'hear' what the other person was thinking, the fact sometimes it wasn't nice she too wished she never had the gift, fortunatley she was 'taught' how to keep it under control and after that she didn't worry. You can 'train' 'nurture' your mind to do that if you wanted to there are many things you may not think you can do eg move objects with your mind but infact you can..I have trained myself to do just that to a degree psychically..but it does take a lot of concentration to do it so haven't done that in a while...LoLo

twoey hi I was just thinking as I read this of something'my husbvand and I used to do.we would sit and watch a person and try to make'him do something just by mental power.I mean like the two of us thinking lets make him retie his shoelace.we would just make a mental picture in our minds of him doing this. well several times we really did succeed in what we thought a person to do.but to this day I really dont know if we did anything at all or if it was just coincidence.'i know that sometimes I can will an open door to move a few inches and it does it but I dont try to do this very often.I dont even know what that is called. but I know if you stand on a street corner and look up like you are really seeing something unusual you willsoon have at least a coupleof people looking up also and sometimes as many as five or six. and when they find its all atrick they are really unhappy.heheThe problem with being able to move things even a little is you will take advantage and thats not right. I once made my husbands papers fly allover the floor just on a whim and all that I accomplished was to make him angry at me. nop;e its not worth it.

I don't think i'd want to mind read i usually pick up far to much from people as it is I wouldn't like to know what everyones thinking all the time to noisey to invasive yuk You'd know everyones secrets no thank you! and not much keen on the government at the moment so would prefer to not get involved am pretty sure i could master switching it on an off but i would prefer a better gift like healing something that helps people

Reading minds would be a skill that would certainly come in handy at times and, as someone else said, it would be very nice to have the gift and an ‘on and off’ switch to go with it because I could not stand the constant chatter from everybody’s brains to mine! It may become a curse once I learn what my friends really think about me!
