I don't know if you know what a black berry bush looks like, but it's a very thorny bush and we have a dog that lovers blackberries. He goes to the bush rolls back his lips and picks the things with just his teeth, I don't know how he learned to do this, dogs are just a lot smarter then we think.

Hi savypat I can't picture the bush but I can imagine if a dog wants something bad enough nothing will stop him from getting it

These are big bushes which spread by sending out branches that root. They are full of very nasty thorns and are really a pest around here.

Hello my friend I could imagine how much of a pain this could be (no pun intended), where do they grow in the parks? there is no way to have them cut? Thank you.

Maybe we should try this method. We are always amazed, when animals, like humans, find one particular food or type of food they like, and then go to great lengths to get it. I have a cat that dearly loves Mexican food and corned beef hash. Do not know where she learned that, but she does.

maybe it's something simple, like she needs a little more salt in her diet or fat.

It's pretty difficult for humans to pick blackberries, let alone dogs, which don't have long opposable fingers... I'm curious though... what other fruits or vegetables does your dog eat? I'm asking because I was completely puzzled to see a dog eat raw tomatoes, pepper ends (I mean what remains after you eat most of it, including the inner bulge with all the seeds), and sometimes slices of peach... I couldn't believe a dog can actually eat tomatoes!

This dog would eat watermelon and blackberries that's about all the unusual things he ate, his tummy was easily upset so we watched him pretty closely when he was out.

No doubt they smell good and he just tried it one time. Lot less daring that the first person to attempt eating an artichoke, I think...

Dogs, pets will learn alot on their own terms. If something hurts them they will adapt quickly so they will get what they r looking for to eat or just to tick u off. I had a Weimarainer, basicly your smartest hunting dog. Nothing would stop her from grtting her prey, thorns, mud water etc. If the obstical was to high climb it, to low dig, chain link fence scale it nothing would stop her. REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

When my dog was a pup the sapodilla fruit used to fall on the ground and it would eat those fruits on the ground with relish.

Hey pat! That is one very smart dog! I do know what a black berry bush looks like and am amazed that he taught himself that trick! He must really love those berries alot! Does he have a black tongue to match? When I saw your discussion title at first I thought you meant the phone!lol Now that would really have been interesting! I wonder if I will be the only idiot who thought that?

They sure are! Many years ago my parents and I used to have a Siamese cat who loved olives. He would eat them carefully and spit the pit out, he was really amazing to watch; he did it with such dexterity and he had a preference to green olives although he would try all kinds. Haven't had a cat like him since.

Just trying to visualize this makes me smile. Dogs can be very surprising at times. I had a friend with large dogs, and apricot and almond trees. The dogs would actually stand on their hind legs and shake the tree with their front legs, jumping against it, to get the apricots and almonds to fall.

We live in WA state where there are tons of blackberry bushes. Our 4 year old black lab has been eating berries off the vine for years. She taught our 1 year old pup to do the same thing. Now they both eat for hours, and yes, they are complete with purple tongues. It is pretty funny.
