We've Survived The Early California Brush Fire Season!

If you're my Facebook buddy you'll know that we were pretty close to two of the California fires that are just eating up our forests, mountain sides and even the desert. Hemet is actually across the street from us. That fire was about 9 miles away. My son has friends in Valle Vista which was a very small community which had mandatory evacuations. Anyhow, thanks to our firefighters we had no loss of life or property just a lot of acreage and beautiful tress. And I guess we will hear about our precious animal life later. I hope they all made it.
Anyhow, the fires here are gone . . . still a lot of smoke and ashes and it's a bear to breathe. But all is well. Do you have natural disaster stories?

Glad to hear it has cleared up in your area. I did hear on the news this morning that two firefighters lost their lives in the fires about Los Angeles. Aparently not from the actual fire but their car or van ran off a cliff. Made me sick. We have a daughter and son-in-law who are both firefighters/paramedics.
We live in the midwest and get our share of tornadoes. Few years ago one hit right around the corner from our house but only took out one big tree and part of a church roof about 4 blocks from us. Fortunate that no lives were lost.

Yes, I heard the news last night about the two firefighters who lost their lives. It is far more devastating then the loss of property. The "Station" fire seems to be out of control. Lots of praying left to be done for that situation. Wish the weather would help out. BTW, tornadoes looks pretty scary to me too.

hi gtargirl according to the news theres stillone huge one closer to LA in the angeles forest burning completely out of control and they say they dont think it will be controlled til Sept 8.we saw the huge clouds of smoke and fire looked like a huge cloud but was where the worst of the fire was.its probably fifteen maybe twenty five miles from us here. last fall we had some bad fires in the canyons near Tustin and the fire washeaded our way then the wind changed and
blew into the canyons . the air was so bad we had to have our windows closed and the air conditioning on for a whole wee k. I live in Garden Grove now so we arent close to any of the fires.but we could see that humongous cloud allblack and grey just spiraling up into the air many feet.those poor people there a re all being evacuated. homes will be lost I am sure. this is just awful.

It does seem hopeless. The "Station" fire seems way out of control. Last I heard it was only 5% contained. That is nothing. But I also heard they are getting help from Canada of all places. They have superior planes which can scoop water. I'm sure there's more to it but hopefully that will help out a lot. Garden Grove seems a pretty safe place from fires, except you get all the bad air from them. Anyhow, hope you have a good week.

I'm glad to hear that everything is okay where you are living. We had an earthquake this past year here. That was the first one I had ever felt in my years of living. We all survived and there was very little damage. It was very scary though.

Hello gtargirl. It was so dangerous of the fire, so close to you, but I am happy to know that you are safe from it. I think that forest fires can be caused by the heat of the weather in summer. It has been very hot in the south of China this summer that we often lack of daily water to use, causing so much inconvenience to us residents. Take care, friend.

Hello my friend gtargirl Ji,
Well, my life is totally un-touched by such experiences, where we had to fight out with nature. But i believe nature always controls us. Nature is great, While, we were in Miami area of US, we were always under tension that there would be thunder storm and waves would come inside our houses. We had kept our life savings/fodd etc for at least twice for one week each time. I think, I should have complain against God, why only some people suffer from natural disaster and others like us are kept un-touched. May God bless You and have great time.

Hi, I am happy to hear that the fires are gone, but I can imagine the devastation there, the lost of beautiful forests and wildlife is very sad. I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years and I still spend the Summers there. We had a very fires while I was there, but nothing to that extent. I am sure the air quality is very poor right about now, so take care.
I now live in Florida, need I say more? I have been here now for 10 years and having to get use to the hurricane season has not be a pleasant transition for me to handle. I was fine up to four years ago when Katrina and Wilma hit South Florida, ever since then I have been nerveous about them.
My friends laugh at me when I tell them that I want so desperately to move back to California. The tease me about the earthquakes and my quick response to them is," Florida has hurricane season, which means you will have to look for them every year. California has an earthquake every now and then and most are not devastating." They never looked at it that way before. Take Care.

Most of our natural disasters are of the ice and snow variety and though damage is done to trees and plants it is not near the level of devastation that you get in California. Earthquakes and forest fires trump winter weather, rain and winds anytime.
One time we had a bad forest fire down the road at the West Point Military Academy but that was a combination of the hot dry weather and remains of live artillery or something that got buried years back when there was training going on there. The ground was burning and what was buried began exploding. I think it was about 400 acres that burned. It was about 10 years ago...and I don't remember all of the details.

It's horrible how California keeps having these "wildfires"...and most are set on purpose...like what kind of sickos do this? My thought is always about the wildlife and animals in general that might be caught in the fires. I was born in Calif btw..Garden Grove area.
