Does age matters in "INTERNET FRIENDSHIP"

India
August 30, 2009 5:58am CST
The age matters in most of the cases in friendship as far as local friend , distant friend, Online friend, etc., I think, It does not matter as long as the two involved are adults. Even they are not of the same age group, Maturity enough for having a successful internet relation, I hope. (i.e., i am talking for different ages in Online world of Friendship) Even the question A S L is asked first during chat, I believe that, Its usually asked just to know about the other person. So that once can start a conversation according to that & Your opinion on this friends? Happy Mylotting to everyone!

For me friendship has no barriers of any kind at all both online and offline. I have friends of all ages offline and these are friends that I have known for many years. The same thing online and my friends are young and even older than me too. The only thing I dislike about online friendships is the distances. Many times I would like to shake hands with an online friend or give them a hug when they are feeling down but this is not possible due to the fact that we are so far away from each other

oh yes mysd...i agree... distance is really a barrier for our online friends...huh! i also feel that way sometimes that i want to shake hands with my new found friends here, or give them a tap on their shoulder, hug them, or whatever...do something to cheer them up...but too bad that i just can express those through words...that sometimes i feel is not really enough! huh!

Hi Diana, I can understand your feelings. I had same worries like you earlier and even now. I have no idea in meeting my online friends outside my country, India. but sure, i will meet all my true relations existing inside India. I have an idea of meeting one of my great relation(within 10 months), who is living in Delhi(2610 kms from my location). And for my another surprise, i got mail from my brother relation, who is coming from US to India(Bangalore), which is lees than 400 kms from my hometown Coimbatore. He said he is buying and coming me wrestling stuffs, which i am interested much. I was so happy to hear this from him. Also I was happy that my internet friends are not fake at all.. My best wishes for you in meeting all your online friends, anyhow, atleast one time! Take care.. Happy Postings.. Have a nice time!

i don't think age matters. what matters is how do you get along. if you have similar views or enjoy chatting then i see no reason as to why age can be a barrier. maybe people with ulterior motives do consider age as a factor, but with time such people are abandoned by friends.

I had an online friend before but we are no longer have communication anymore. Sometimes in the first question in the conversation what each other age, gender and location. Yes I agree that if you are matured age doesn't important anymore in relationship but sometimes it is hard to trust someone online.

Ages is one big deal in a conversation most especially on the internet because mature person can understand and no risk for them to talk about adult things. Because if you talk or chat with those 18 or less about adult things. They say your bad. but if that person is mature enough to talk with. That is nothing wrong with them to talk anything unless it is acceptable to them... that my opinion in here, my friend. I hope I get your views and my opinion is detailed on the topics...have a nice day!

I do not think that age matters in friendships full stop! Whether it is online or in day to day life, I think the only thing that matters is that you share interests and that you get along with each other! I have friends that are old enough to be my parent and I also have friends that are 10 years or more younger than me! I have always had friends that have been a lot older than me ever since I left school 20 years ago! This has transferred into my online friendships as well.

Hi raghul77ster Well, I think it depends on what kind of relationship. If it is serious relationship, like try to find mates on internet friend finder or mate-site, of course age really matter, although we can't know that person lie or not to us about his/her age. If it's just for conversation in a forum (like here in myLot), I don't think age matter, because as long as two of them have many things in common or can share something, the relationship/friendship can be built. That's from my own experience, since we are online, we can't see each face, so maybe this is what make it easier to gain friends online without age bound. Of course, if you wanna tell your serious/adult problem, you won't tell it to your online friend who have age gap too far from you. It depends on what kind of friendship you want

Yes, that's what I mean raghul It's nice to have many friends wihout considering their age, except if you wanna meet them in real life or wanna maintain more serious relationship.. You know, sometimes I can talk easily and friendly to my friends here who have age gap more than 30 years with me. I don't think I can do that if I meet her in reality.. So, let's we use this condition to gain information and maintain relationship with as many good people as we can, because in real life it may be hard to get friends with certain age gap..

I have friends of different ages on the internet. But somehow, i think you are looking beyond the internet. My aunt married a man that was 30 years younger than she was. I have also met other people in the world that have a large age difference, and seem to be perfectly happy. I see no reason, why age, should have barriers when meeting others, so long as both are consenting adults.

Age does not matter at all to me.. haha =D Be it for online friendship or in real, age is not a problem.. I always like frenz whom are older than me, so that they are are to guide me or share their life experiences with me.. hehe ^_^ As for frenz younger than me, it's good in a way because i will still be in touch with the latest trend in town, and i wont be left out.. haha =D It's always good to be able to strike a balance between frenz, whom are old and young ^_^ For they bring different experiences ^_^

I don't think to a great degree that age matters anyway. Especially as smart and mature as people are now days it just mean alot. Internet friendships are hard to pin point. I have friends of all ages online and any one of them can hit on a subject that we can discuss on the very level.

i dont think there is a problme with age in internet freindships as long as its just friends the younger one can go to the older one for advice about things or talk to someone who might have better knowledge of life and visa versa with kids and such it can help younger people to mature more to talk to older people age is only a number what really matters is your mind set.

Hello Raghul. An interesting question here. In my own experience, age does not matter, since it allows us to connect with and learn from many different people. I see that as a great plus. Even offline, I have friends or acquaintances of various ages, and again, we learn much from one another. Karen

I agree, I too have a few very good online friends whose age I don't know. I know that they are women and I can workout that they are probably older than me, because they have kids and such, but I have never even asked their age now would I care what they would tell me if I did.

I do not think that the ages matter much here online. Some because I dont really look at each person as the age that they tell me actually. I am thinking that many people use it like a masquerade. You can say you are any age and not be. I think that it is a matter of maturity. There are certain people you can talk to and others not so well.

i don't think age matters when it comes to freindship no matter if you are on or off line. I have so many online friends that are older then me. and I tell you they have taught me some great online lessons as well as life lessons. and I can say the same for the younger people that i have met on line. I love all of my onlne friends, young and old!

I am not sure why it would matter what the age of a friend is. Dating is one thing, but friendship, it doesn't make sense to me. I have friends of all ages and walks of life and some of them are far older than me and some are far younger than me. I guess it depends on the person though.

I honestly do not know the ages of my friends on mylot, but with their comments I can sort of guage whether they are mature or not. I for one can interact with anyone of any age and its no problem for me. I can still remember my young days and the good and the bad times. So its just a case of applying them to todays youth because after all even though the times change, customs change and everything else may change feelings and emotions of children, teens, adults and the aged remain the same.

I think that age is the last thing I'd consider. With such a wide spectrum of common/uncommon variables upon which we build a friendship age seems the least important. I grant that when 'adult' activities are involved age is indeed relevant, but only insofar as to be assured that the 'adult' age has been reached and, I suppose, we can only cross our fingers and hope that some notion of emotional and social maturity was reached at the same point in time. But as for mylotting (and similar) I discuss and listen to folks to learn what they think and not how many candles were on the cake. What friendships I may build here, I hope, remain of a reflection of that! ENJOY!
