Writing diary is always regarded as a good way to give vent to your emotion. However, according to the study of the British psychologist, writing diary doesn't release the unhappiness, it strengthens the psychological wound, it's harmful to people's heath, the people who writing diary often is more likely to be puzzled by headache, insomnia, digestive disease and social obstacle than those who don't do ti, the most severe is just those who ever record the miserable expreiences, they often taste their misfortune, not abreact emotion and remove yourself from the wound, they never forget those unfortunate things.
Do you have a habit to write diary? Do you think writing diary is helpful to improve your mood?

I was writing diary when I was younger. And it did help me a lot because I had difficult childhood. I can say that diary was my best friend that time and I could tell this best friend everything as a paper will absorb everything. I think it's good idea to write down all your feelings and frustrations as it helps to deal with it.

I do use a journal to vent. However, I don't just vent. I use it to problem solve. I usually will break down a problem into parts and work on what I can change or ways to cope or modify my behavior. I also go back and look at old journals occasionally to see what I'm still stuck on that I was working on in the past. But, it's also not just a vent book. I habitually make a list of blessings and record good events as well. So, while I understand what that study is saying about people dwelling on their problems in their diaries and not making progress, I think it would really depend on how the person is using that diary.
