Well, Hubby and I are coming up on 10 years of being together and I’ve decided what I want to mark the occasion. I want a nice family photo done with him, the cat and I. The kind where you get gussied up and it looks really nice. Now, I have to plan this b/c first it has to be in our apartment b/c he can’t travel. Second, I have to have someone come in to take it. Also I have to figure out the background and outfits and everything. I really want this to be a keepsake. We’ve never had a pic taken together…even at our wedding reception I don’t think we had one done.
Have you ever had a family portrait done? What was yours like? Did you get it done to mark an occasion or just b/c?

Hello my friend
I had a portrait done of me and my daughter when she was 1 years old, she is now 25, so I know what you mean, people don't do this as much as they use too, I remindl her she should do this with her son, thanks for sharing this post, I will bring this up to her again and this time I will not stop till she does it, he should have a nice picture of the two of them, they have picture but mostly pictures I have taken, thanks again

I have had many generational pictures done with different parts of my family. They always turn out grand and are really fun to do. I will give some advice here though. Do it with nature clothes and don't make it too out there. You may be sorry later. In telling family members about it later on the fact that he is dressed unnaturally can be a bit of a problem later on down the line. You want to remember him as he really is and as you two are together not some far fetched thing that isn't like either one of you. For family sake.

Yes, I have had some nice portraits done of
the family. My last was done with my youngest
son, he was around 7 years old. We had a western
one done. He was dressed as a cowboy and I was
dressed as ranchers wife. We had a great time.
Have a great day,

hello Twoey,
I like to take photo. But so far we never get a family portrait that is done by professional or in studio. It is a good idea to get a family portrait now because we have 2 kids now, I hope to capture some nice memory before they grow up,
!
I am in the midst of searching some portrait service online. It is not cheap to engage a professional photographer for the shooting session. I hope I can save some money from now so we can have a proper shooting soon.

Hubby and I have had several portraits taken but we haven't had any taken in several years though and are way past due. It was done because of Olan Mills giving away an 8x10 every so often in a military town as a promotional thing. Since we've moved a couple of times since then, we haven't had one done but we should and will eventually and I'd love to have one done with our German Shepherd dog and three little Chihuahua's. Imagine that. LOL

I have never had a family portrait done of my children and my now-ex husband, at least not formally. I hate the camera, hate to see my picture and that has robbed my sons of something they may enjoy someday. I wish it wasn't that way, but it is.
I think it's a nice idea for you to do. Try contacting the photography instructors at your local college--you can usually get studio quality for a fraction of the price.

Hubby and I are planning to get one done for our 2nd anniversary. We have been talking about giving out copies for Christmas.
We have talked about the pose we want too. I don't want one of one of us standing and the other sitting, because no matter what, that position subjugates the woman.
a) She's sitting, he's standing, she looks smaller, small = submissive.
b) She's standing, he's sitting, she's sacrificing her own comfort to give the master the better position.
So we've decided we're both going to be either standing or sitting side by side. That way if he's taller than i am, it's because that's just his height!!
I remember the last family portrait we had (before we met) my step-dad (shortest member of the family) was raised to look like the patriarch, Mom shorter next to him (she's actually taller) sister infront a bit shorter than Mom, and me at the very front, shorter than all of them with all of their hands on my shoulder, looking like they're protecting the little one. AARRGGHH!!!! I love them all, but I really hate what that post appears to symbolize. Even though they all swear that's not what it means, as the youngest in the family and with my naturally short step-dad so TALL it just looks unnatural to me. For the record, Mom and sister are the same height, and although I'm a little shorter than they are, I do come above my mother's shoulder.

We did have a family picture taken a couple of years ago. My dad's old boss is friends with a photographer from vogue...so we got all dressed up and whatnot and had a nice picture taken at his studio and then he had taken pictures of my brother, sister and I apart and together....now my parents had this really cool painting done of me when I was a baby...I didn't even know that it was me until they told me when I was 10...it's a real painting it looks so cool...but I do think that when my boyfriend and I get married we will do a portrait of course at our wedding and when we have children I will get a picture every year for Christmas cards to send to family and friends.

Hello twoey68,
It is a long way and it is good to mark the occasion after experiencing ups and downs in life together. My husband and I still have a long way to go before we can celebrate our 10th, 20th anniversary and hopefully forever being together *smiles* I do plan to have something special to remember the day when it comes. As for family portrait, we used to do it once a year since I my only son was born three years ago.

Yes on many occasions we have our family photo. Two years back, on my elder son's wedding, we had it with the new addition, that is daughter-in-law. This is the latest hung in my drawing room. Though I and my husband live alone, looking at the huge family photo makes our home lively.

I have many pictures of hubby and me, but never a formal one, it would be nice to have one done. I would also like to have one with us and all our kids, but it is next to impossible to get everybody together all at one time, It never fails when we have get together's, or on holidays it seems like at least one is not their.
