Are you able to sell a Blogspot domain if it makes a lot of money?

Let's say you have a blog on blogspot that's worth millions, hypothetically speaking. Can you sell it? Mind you I'm not talking about a custom domain here. I'm talking about can you sell a domain of your's that says "mywebsite.blogspot.com"? I'm assuming you have to split the profit with blogspot? Another related question: Blogspot sells custom domains for $10 (www.mywebsite.com in other words) and they host it for free. If I had went with this offer and tried to sell it, would I be able to? Would Blogspot still get something out of it since they are hosting it for free?

I'm pretty sure that you can sell a blog that's hosted on Blogger as long as you're selling all of the content as well. It's possible to transfer ownership of a Blogger blog, but I don't think you can sell only the subdomain that the blog is located at. Of course, if a blog is getting enough traffic that you're thinking about selling it, I don't think you'd want to keep it on Blogger. Having its own easily recognized domain name would probably go a long way towards making it more desirable for web investors who'd consider buying it. As far as selling a domain name that Blogger has helped you register, I think that's perfectly fine. They only act as a middleman between you and the registrar, and they seem to allow you to use any domain name with your blogs as long as you're the owner. The domain name is 100% yours, so they shouldn't be able to claim a percentage if you sell it.

Of course, if a blog is getting enough traffic that you're thinking about selling it, I don't think you'd want to keep it on Blogger. That is true, but the thing is hosting is expensive and Blogspot provides free hosting with your own paid custom domain name. I just began hosting my first custom domain site at Webs.com (check my profile for the link) for $100 a year and I'm very comfortable with the web design interface. But it's $100 a year, I have 3 other sites I want to make and I'm not up to spending $300 at Webs.com at the moment if you catch my drift. I also have to be careful where I host at because my first choice was Blue Host and their interface was just a little TOOOOOOOOOOO advanced for my taste, I just wanted something simplified and easy. Webs.com has plenty of templates to choose from, very understandable layout and interface of web design options, plenty of widgets, you can still do lots of cool stuff with Webs. A lot of places I see look like they might be the same as Blue Host, just by looking at their site - Hostgator, Godaddy, etc. all look like they have extremely advanced interfaces that are more geared towards Web Design Supermen which I am not, I'm not an expert but I'm not a beginner either. I'd like to look at things that are understandable in English and not have 10-15 different sections on an interface with terms like sQL, blagldjgklgjlf, blah blah blah, and then they have Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, and 100 other options - What on Earth am I supposed to pick? Sheesh! This is what I had to go through with Blue Host and that's why I left.

If you're site worth million, even $1,000 or $10,000 a year is just a piece of cake. You could even hire someone to do the the job of site management, they will take care of everything you wanted for your site.

Sad, but if you're earning $600 dollars with other contents of your site, it's quite worth while still.

There are lots of companies that sell domain names. As far as selling your blog on Blogger, I do not see that as a problem. Just because they give away a subdomain name, does not mean you could not sell it to a willing buyer, along with the name. In my opinion anyway. If you have such a good blog, you would want a custom domain name anyways, and you can sell those with no problem, as they belong to you as long as you pay the fees, usually 10$ a year or even less. I was watching a computer program last night and he recommended http://www.typepad.com as an easy one to start with as it is professional looking and easy to maintain and they host for you. It costs though, about 60$ per year for the basic. I am sure there are lots of others though.

I think, you will have to sell your Blogspot login info too. Say if you have more than one blog and you wish to sell one of them. Login info is the same for both the blogs and the sold blog would be still editable by you if you sell only the contents. (You will see all your blogs on your dashboard and you can modify them) Selling Login info, I'm not sure whether it's allowed. Selling a registered domain, is very much possible and legal. Blogspot has nothing to do with it.

hmm..I would assume you would be able to sell it if you went with the $10 option because you made the site. You probably wouldn't have to split with blogger because it's your domain they are only hosting. It wouldn't change anything with them except the contact information for the owner of the site. This is a very interesting question! I look forward to what other people have to say!! Do you have a blog that makes millions? If so I may be interested!!
