All of us are scared of something as children...and well, as adults too LOL. But for this discussion, what things scared you most when you were a child? Mine: Losing my parents Robbers breaking into the house Getting trapped in the top bunk during a fire Stray dogs that roamed the neighborhood Hell, after a Sunday school teacher told us 8 year olds about it! Loud thunder storms And...well other things, too lol. Your turn to share! Karen

Hi Karen! I was also scared of losing my parents and I would think that they are elder to me and they will die before me (Thanks God, they are still alive and are with me, even when I myself have become father of two kids). I was also afraid of stray dogs and one with lots of hair on his head and face, where the face is completely hidden, if I happend to see a hairy dog, I'll clutch the hands of my mother very tightly and would request her to take me away from the dog.

Hello Karen! It also makes me happy to note that we had some similar fears, when we were children. It is really great to know that your respected mother is alive and she is now a great grand mother and you have a very large family. I thinkg it would be fun to interact with your family members, one after another. Warm hugs! Have a great day! Deepak

Oh yes, I adore my wonderful mother! And we do indeed have a wonderful time when we all gather together...as we now number almost 100 with all the spouses and grand and great grandchildren present, such as at the Christmas holiday. We laugh and remember so many things and tell of all our recent news, too.

Hello Deepak. I see we had some very similar fears! I am happy that your parents are still on this earth with you. I am blessed to have my mom still, but my dad passed away when he was 81. They both got to see all of my children...and now my mom is also a great grandmother. We are a very large family! Thank you for telling us your childhood fears, and have a wonderful night. Karen

Hi Karem, when I was small I overheard my parents talking about robbers breaking into houses and for some bizarre reason thought that they were going to arrive at the house, break in, and do something nasty to my teddy. So I started covering up teddy's face every night with a handkerchief thinking that would keep him safe from the robbers, completely illogical I know. You'l be pleased to hear thought that teddy has indeed survived until this very day.

Well at least Teddy has a better life now as he's no longer put through the washing machine and hung up by the ears to dry after being smothered for half the night.

Sounds painful to be hung up by the ears, but what is a teddy to do? LOL. I am glad he has a good life.

Hi Thea :) Oh, now that was one of my fears. Every little creaking noise the house made at night sounded like a "robbers" footsteps to me. I would lay quiet and barely breathe! Yay!! I am glad teddy survived and is still with you. I used to get up in the night if it turned cold and cover all my stuffed animals and dolls, as though they were real, because I didn't want them to lie there shivering lol. Thank you for sharing. What scared me the most are vampires and zombies, basically anything that eats human flesh or suck blood for that matter. I am scared of the dark too because that is the time the monsters come out. Thunder was also on my list. I thought before that God was angry to us because of so many bad people. Every time there's a thunder, i hide under the bed. I was also afraid of my mentally incapacitated neighbor. When i was a child, i thought he was a vampire and every time i see him, he scares the crap of me really. I wonder where he is now.

Yes, sharing things is very good for us. It is one way we learn that we are not "strange" at all, that we do have things in common! I remember the Thriller video...very unique. Have a blessed weekend. Karen

Hello Underdogy. Ugh! Vampires and zombies...remember the old movies about them?? And yes, I hated the dark..who knew what might be lurking in it unseen? Like you, I used to be afraid of God, too! It seems as children we fear many things in common. And yes, I often wonder about neighbors I've not seen or heard of since my youngest days...as in where are they and what are they doing now, and such. Thank you for telling us of parts of your childhood. Karen

Not a problem. It's such a nice feeling when we share something to other people, may it be personal or whatever it is hehe. Actually i can't remember the movies about vampires and zombies, I don't a have vivid recollection of their titles. What I can remember is MJ's Thriller when he changed to a werewolf. And yeah, i think most kids do have the same things they're afraid of. Maybe that is just part of growing up and learning new things in the world lol.

Hi Karen, the things that scared me as a child were obviously losing my parents, thunderstorms! They used to scare the living daylights out of me, literally, especially at night, it was the flashes and waiting for that awful noise, I used to run into my parents room armed with a pillow blanket and teddy bear, I would make sure my dad didn't hear otherwise he'd send me back into my room. I used to make my father promise me that it wouldn't thunder that night, how daft is that, but I was only a child. I also had a fear of drowning as I couldn't swim.

Hi Wolfie. Nice to "see" you! One of a child's worst fears, I do believe, is that of losing their parents, or getting lost from them. And to this day, a very loud clap of thunder surprises me so that I flinch. And it's not daft to ask parents to promise something...even if they couldn't possibly prevent it! I think we all do that. Thank you for telling us of your childhood fears, and have a pleasant night. Karen

Hi Shachse. These fears are in common with many of us! One time, I saw a tornado, but it did not hit our home, though it was terrifying! I can feel for you. They are so powerful and destructive, and common to some states (like TX) more that others. Thank you for responding and have a nice evening. Karen

I don't really remember of being afraid of anything much when i was a child. About the only thing that comes to mind i was always that i would make my parents mad which i seemed to do right often especially after i got to be a teenager.

Hello Jo. Hope you've had a good day! You were a brave child! I envy that...I was a "scaredy cat" lol. Yes, parents can be scary when they're mad. I gave mine fits when I was a teen, too, and I was the oldest of 8 children. They still had 7 to go once I turned 20. They did so well by all of us, though. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and sweet dreams tonight. Karen

Hi Karen, Different discussion! Well, for me, Just like you, loosing my parents, who are my Mom and Grandmom. They should never die till i reach my life to the top position. Thats is my great expectation. Second, I should not die before reaching my aims or completing my duties in settling the family to a very good extent. Thats all Karen! Other than this, if you ask me, I would say My fear on these things whether it may don't happen too. But i am still being a positive thinker! Let me see how i am shaping my life. And sure, I fear thunderstorms too.. Oh my god.. They look like a devil to my eyes. But i love to watch it sitting inside the home! Have a nice time!

Ugh! I would fear cockroaches, too, Raghul. I have seen news stories about them crawling into the ears and laying eggs there. (Shiver!) Like you, I just wanted my parents to live forever, and always, I wanted myself to live to see that my daughters were raised by me, and that has happened :)) And like you, storms are fine now, as long as I can watch them from a safe place. There power is rather captivating! Thank you for sharing these things about yourself with us. Karen

BOOGEY MAN!! Nothing frightened me more than the boogey man.. I never got a decent night of sleep till I grew up and found out it was just a story to scare us.. and I was always shivering at night and had to be tranquilized just to get some sleep I was also afraid of water.. still am.. can't swim at all as I would not even put my tiny toe in the pool!

Ack, Monty! I think we all had one kind of boogey man or another we feared as a child. And I hate those stories deliberately designed to scare a child, ugh! The damage they do! I know several people who also have a fear of drowning, even though they swim fairly well. The water is to be enjoyed, but also, its power should be respected by even the best of swimmers. Thank you for responding. Have a good weekend :) Karen

hi karen, i was in the third grade then. suddenly, doctors and nurses came inside the classroom and the teacher closed the door and informed us that they were doctors and nurses and that will give us something to prevent us from being sick. that was how the explanation was said to us. then they started injecting baccine to students, and i was so scared because my mom was not there and they all had to catch me because i cried and ran with all my might around the classroom but in the end my teacher caught me. remembering that experience makes me smile always. ann

hi. thats right.. it was so scary specially when the doctor was about to inject and i was kinda like so strong.. all my muscles as flexed and rigid.. and the teacher said while hugging me to her, "its only like an ant biting". but i knew it was more than a ant's bite. then a nurse said relax your arm or the needle will break and will be left inside. wahhhhhhhhh!!! then after that, i was so glad i was still alive. its good now that i have overcome my fear of injections. ann

Dear Karen, Another interesting discussion...let me think :~ 1) snakes that enter the house during rainy days. 2) an angry bearded man who chase the kids for trespass into his farm. 3) an old uncle who like to pinch the children cheek. 4) a 'bogey man' that was told to scare the children ~ it seems he was oiled woth balck oiled all over his body and he likes to kidnap children. Due to his oily body, he can hadly be grabbed or caught 5) no transportation to go back home after a day out with mum in town. We have to be separated and going back on our own. 6) chased by hungry ducks or swans... Have fun and do keep in touch!

Hi Iriene. Oh wow! We had a snake, a large blue racer, get into the house just once when I was a child. My mother tried to capture it, but it went beneath the couch and by the time we moved it, that snake was gone...we never did see it again. Oooo, an oiled boogie man? That would frighten any child! And it is scary to be separated from a parent. And ducks and such? They CAN be mean! I used to hate to gather eggs from the chicken house, as the mean roosters would peck me on the backs of my legs! Thank you for sharing :)) Karen

As a child I was scared of being suffocated because I always had a reoccurring dream of feeling something being put over my face. Now that I am an adult I still have the fear and it keeps me from swimming and pulling the covers over my head. I was also afraid of heights, but am now beginning to fight that fear by making myself participate in activities that involve heights.

Hi Rachel. What a terrible thing not be able to breathe...so that must have been an awful thing to fear, and still fear! I have asthma, and whenever I have trouble breathing, it gives me such a feeling of panic! I commend you for facing the fear of heights. I believe that is probably one of the best things you could do to conquer that fear. Good luck with it :) Best wishes, Karen

The A bomb, we were even taught in class to duck and cover. Ideas that allowed us to be proactive instead of just scared. Of course now I know we would have been nothing but ash. I use to have night mares about this, I dreamed I was out in the open with nothing but cardboard boxes to hide in and the bomb was coming.

Oh wow, Pat, I also remember those drills and the nightmares about the A bomb. The funniest thing, though, strange/funny. Guess I got Russia and Disney all mixed up! Have a nice night. Karen

Hmm. I think I was really honestly scared of Aliens when I was growing up... I was scared that they would just enter our house and get me or my parents and bring us to wherever their home is.. LOL.. I don't remember any other thing I'm scared of when I was a kid.. just Aliens.. Hmm. now that I think about it.. I was a weird Kid..

Hello Ingking. Nah, you weren't weird. All it takes is watching one movie or hearing a story about aliens to trigger a fear of them in a child's mind! Pretty scary stuff...even if I saw one now, as an adult, I would be scared until I knew if they were friendly aliens lol. Take care. Karen

There was only one thing I that I really got scared of when I was a child and it was ghosts. I believed in ghosts during my younger years that is why I was always scared to sleep alone by myself. I would always want someone with me in my room. I was scared to stare myself in the mirror because I knew then that someone might appear at the back of me then.

Hi Jules. Ugh, even today, some adults as well as children fear ghosts. When something is so unfamiliar or we hear the "tales" of fearful things that happen to children. It always felt much safer to be in the present of someone else! I am glad we were a large family and my sisters and I all shared a bedroom. Have a good weekend! Karen

I am adopted and every time I did something wrong my adoptive mother used to yell at me about how I should be grateful and if I didn't behave they would send me back to the childrens home. Now as an adult, of course I know its highly unlikely that they would do that, and if theres a list of things NOT to say to your adopted kid, thats probably right up there with 'you're adopted because your mother thought you sucked!' so I know it was HER problem. But as a child, I didn't know - maybe that was what happened? Maybe there was some sort of deal adoptive parents have that you can send back kids that don't work properly?! So that was my biggest fear as a child, that some scary person was going to come and pick me up and take me away, and what would happen to me because that would be TWO sets of parents who didn't want me. I think a lot of fears later in life for me have their root in this, as I constantly was trying to be perfect for them.

Hello English. How very sad that any parent would tell a child such a thing. I believe you are right that many fears and problems we have as adults DO have their roots in how we were treated as children. The best thing in the world is to have faith and to love yourself! No one can take that away from you. My very best wishes to you. Karen
