Media - sensitive or insensitive

I was watching television today - our state's chief minister died in a helicopter crash, along with four others. We had reports approaching the wife of one of the deceased asking her - what she was thinking? I didnt I wanted to know that. So why was the poor lady being asked that? It brought to my mind the media coverage of 26/11. I also recollect how the Hollywood stars collectively came forward to hold the nation together after 9/11. And then before that there was Lady Di in the car crash in pain while photographers were clicking away - to make the headlines. Agreed media has been good many times, but media persons need to be trained on sensitivity. What is ur call on this.

The media is as sensitive as a vulture, as caring as a hyena, as gentle as a shark, as compassionate as Hannibal Lector, as ....... They're a pack of jackals, in fact. I'd almost rather drink with an insurance salesman. Lash

One of the nice things about getting old is that you can be as cantankerous and as eccentric as you please, because you no longer need fear what people might say - whatever good or bad is going to happen to you probably already has lol. Lash

Either I am aging very fast, or u r younger than what u believe urself to be. :) I really didnt find anything eccentric or cantankerous in what u wrote. Those were the first words - vulture and hyena - that came to my mind as well. :)

There are some issues that should be untouched like what you have said.We should not approach a person who had lost a loved one and ask him/her how they are feeling. What is your response? These are all some ridiclous questions that should not be asked.the media people must know that they are asking a person who is in utmost pain but not a person who is in joy. They should show some dignity. As media ppl they have some responsibility and dignity to maintain but now a days its very sad and pity to know that they are losing it.Ofcourse none of the viewers want to know how the relatives of deceased fell there is no need to ask them everybody knows it.It should have been better if media ppl are not allowed near the closed ones of the deceased..

I absolutely agree with u. What is worse is the media person who was asking these questions was a girl herself! How insensitive can she get! I am glad she is no friend of mine. I would have had tough time not giving her a piece of my mind. But the person who is covering it or broadcasting it, even they were happy enough to show it. I am surprised that they didnt say - NDTV is the first to show it - the way they were doing when terrorists were there in Taj. Disgusting.

Definitely Vandana. It was very sad to see the kith and kin of the deceased in tears and all broken down.THe media people have to ask insensitive questions and compound their misery.Obviously the wife of the deceased is not going to be thinking of orange juice and icecream isn't it? THank God I did not watch it.

Yes sometimes media persons go out of their sense. They must follow some ethics.

Hello vandana, I agree with your point. These stupid media people act woefully in some cases like this. Why dont they highlight the cases such as Aarushi murder , Governement officials who are corrupt & all such things? I dont know whether to laugh at some of the questions they put or to kick them. Its really irritating to see such things on the electronic media.

The only part of the media that is insensitive to me is the Paparazzi. chasing down popular people and invading them of their privacy, would you believe that. Luckily, that's not like that in my country. those insensitive people will have karma soon i believe........

Paparazzi is insensitive, but even television reporters are. On the one hand they show how a young kid is being rescued from a deep well with the help f army personnel, and on the other hand they are poking the wife of the deceased - almost teasing. She must be miserable as it is. She is a traditional lady, so she didnt react. A person like me would have openly asked - oh u want to know how it feels, well, get married and lose ur husband. Then I will come and ask u how it feels. U can describe with all ur descriptive skills. Yes - even I believe they will face their karma.
