My baby is now five month old so that i am planning give him solid food step by step now. So searched much and find that we can give solid food to our child if he is able to support his head properly and able to control his neck. i also found out that interest of baby is also important if he is not interested so we must wait for days or weeks and then try again. it also depends on growth of our child. now what we can give them in sixth month firstly we should give only cereal with milk and only as a try then increase it day by day.and it is important to give cereal with spoon so that your child can learn to eat solid food. some food we must avoid this time like eggs, juice till one year so now i am going to buy cereal for my son from next month i will start as i have got information from net I hope it is also use ful for others if any one has six month old baby' ritika

First of all you can see if its time to start solid food or not. you can check for these * Your baby’s birth weight has doubled. * Your baby can sit up with support and can control his or her head. * Your baby can control upper body movements and pull forward when food is wanted or move back when full. * Your baby’s tongue doesn’t keep pushing food out. At the age of 4-5 months, you can start to familiarize your baby with the feel of a spoon and introduce solid foods. Cereal is the first solid you should give your baby and you can mix it with milk, formula or water and feed it to your baby with a spoon (not in a bottle). Start by feeding one tablespoon of an iron-fortified Rice cereal at one feeding and then slowly increase the amount to 3-4 tablespoons one or two times each day. Have a lovely time with your baby

Great info you have given me and all myloters here, thanks taztheone. my baby is of five months so i am waiting for one month more then i will start cereal plus milk to him. Now he is able to control his head but not much able to sit he can sit with support not himself so i think i need to wait for one month more i give him water with spoon so that he would be able to take solid food with spoon easily in future. ritika

I think when the child is able to swallow or chew softened foods, then it is time for them to be introduced to solid foods. Make sure it is not something they may get choked on and give in small portions also.

I started giving solid food to my baby when he was 6 months old. I have read that some babies might have allergy problem to certain food, so it's advisable to give the baby solid food when their body is fully ready for this. My baby seems to like any food that we introduced to him so far, he is not fussy about food. Perhaps it's something new to him, and he finds it tasty other than the mother's milk.

Six months old is the current suggested age to begin weaning a baby. I gave my son's baby rice to begin with at that age. Then I began giving fruit that was like a liquid and really smooth. Baby cereal is full of added vitamins. A baby should have their teeth gently brushed every day before bed. Good luck with giving solid food to your son.
