What did you learn from Obama's speech, and the reaction before it

I am not going to say I told you so to anyone on here. But, after view Mr. Obama's speech to our children, do any of you now feel that fear is what is running the opposition to Mr. Obama? And, do you feel better, or worse about the speech after viewing it. http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/%3Cbr%3E%3Cbr%3EJust

There is no "told you so" to say. The general oposition was not to the speech itself, it was to the whole department of educations involvement and the assignements they drafted up that were the problem. I thought it was a great speech, very Reaganesque and pretty much what I have told my own kids all their lives and school careers. But id had, and still have issues with the department of education being in on this, big issues.

X, I understand that is what YOU were upset about. But, there were many others that never saw what you are talking about, and were upset about Obama talking to their kids. Look at my post before, and it doesn't take much to realize who is who. You should agree with me, that this should be a wake up call to all of the people that are being driven by fear and anger. You should look at this as an opportunity to show people the negatives of both parties, and what they can make their members do, and not even know it.

Yeh, there was a movement to paint this as policy pushing, but I still think it was the department of educations involvement that was the catylist for the controversy. No dount there would have been an out cry even without the asignments and such, but I don't think it would have been nearly as prevelent or loud. There were also those who just plain fear mongered, it's expected, disgusting but expected. It has litteraly become the tool of the trade in partisan theater.

X, it is sad to hear you say it is "expected". You are correct, but it still doesn't make it any less chilling. I think this could really help you a lot in explaining what you stand for, and what is wrong with this country. If you can use this example of how people were told by other to be afraid of something that we tell our children all the time. We turned a speech that was moving, and helpful to our children, into a example of how far we have to go as a country. I think everyone learned from this speech, but it isn't about words, it's about what you do with YOUR life and the influence you have on others that tells the story.
X, you have the ability to change a lot of lives, you just have to do it!!

I heard the speech on the radio with the President's inflections - - I thought it was a great speech as he told it like it is and related a life style and an upbringing most public servants, much less Presidents, would relate to.
One of the great strengths of the US, especially now, is that the life of the poor or as George Bailey said in "It's a Wonderful Life", the people who do most of the living and dying in this town. Obama was able to speak to that.
I applaud the speech and courage to say it.

Once again, Obama delivers a fine speech where he does a complete 180 on anything he ever backed since his community organizer days.

What a bad, bad, bad man for telling our children to stay in school and get a good education. I never want anyone to encourage my children to do their best, I want them to be complete failures. That president is such an asss for trying to get kids to stay in school and be responsible for their actions and education.

There's lots of things they are right about, you know taxes because who the hell needs roads and post offices, abortion because we should be over populated and let children die because they don't have health insurance. Oh, those are just two of what sticks out in the "right" being right.

I guess the right wing hate machine was 100% right on this one. Maybe now we will all learn that personally responsibility, and staying in school have NO place in our schools.
