Hi mylotter friends, Do you have the real experience what is hunger or what is thirst. Most of us have never been is such a situation and there does not arise any question of his/her being left starved. Only those living under poverty line know the tryst of life. The know well what it could be like hunger and thirst. I personally have not yet known what is hunger but know what is thirst. I had a lot of money but money can not buy a bottle of water and finally I too up a waste water bottle and collected some water in a tape in the vicinity and quenched my thirst. Rajib. 10.09.09

hwwaaaat??? sorry, i was sleepy last night. i took it literally. LOL anyway, dealing with real hunger and thirst, well those were the days. somehow, if we're talking about poverty, most likely i think of some of the tribes in my country. i may have dealt with them back in the day, but the hardships ive experienced during those times were nothing compared to what they had and still having. sorry again, please bear with me. thanks!:)

I have been thirsty but not to the point of abject misery. I have been hungry for days with no food, back in the days when I was young and ran out of money between paychecks. It was awful. It hurt. After awhile the hurt went away and I just felt sick. After 3 days I got paid and wanted something so badly but needed to look at my bills and stuff first to be sure that this didn't happen again! So I spend 15 cents on an apple and it was the best apple I've ever had! I even at the core and the seeds. God has brought me through a lot of bad times!

God has His reasons. Since then, I have always contributed in some way to the hungry. I may have given a neighbor food or contributed to a food bank, but since then I have striven to relieve hunger. See, there is a reason for everything that happens to us. There is probably something in your own life that happened in order to instruct you.

Hi there, Yes I am confirmed you reached almost the summit of what is called hunger. You know this better than we all. Though I have no direct experience of being left hungry but have seen hungry people doing odd things. I hope you would never go back to that situation and pray for all those poor ones so that that get at least a morsel to eat.

Yes, that is for sure. Again your good gesture that you have been regularly contributing to the hungry is itself a reflection of your humanity and the realization of the past.

Yes, i know real hunger when I have to go hours without one of favorite Luna bars. It is pure angious and I am near real starvation for the best taste in the Northern states. It is hell on Earth that the manufacturer could actually miscalculate to the degree that I would have to do without this luciousness for up to four days. Yes, I have known real hunger.

I feel I have, yes. But I won't let my grandchildren know what it is like to go hungry if I can help it. It is called taking care of your own little corner of the world and if more people did that then we would none of us go hungry. Bring people into your home, invite them and have dinner with them.

If that be the case then I must accept that you have really known what hunger is.

I haven't experienced the real hunger, but I have experienced what is called a lack of food. There was a month when my father was ill and he didn't received his salary. My mother didn't have a job at that time. And I remember returning home from school and eating old bread - God - it was sweet and delicious!I still remember that taste and when I buy bread I always think that the situation could be worse - there could be no bread.

We can live without bread for some time, but we can't survive without water. Some scientists say that in the future water and gold will cost equally.

Hi silver, To have something of that sort at lest you have the r=experience of lack of food. But think of those who are starving and are living on the left overs in the dustbins or the worst have no access of any food or drink for several days together. I know a liittle bit of thirst as last year or so We foursome went to a friend's residence on his invitation and it was one of the Metropolis in India and unfortunately I had not updated my mobile phone and hence had not taken along as we were out for marketing. But unfortunately I got stranded and somehow was successful in locating my friend's residence but the rest of them had not arrived as yet and I was loitering here and there and felt I was thirsty, too thirsty. Had lots of money with me and as it was getting too late in the evening shops were closing and was refused a bottle of water as I had no small change but only Rs. 500/- and 1000/- and they said they had no changes to return and a frustrated me just picked up a thrown plastic bottle near the road side and filled it up from the water tap that was lying in the vicinity where I was waiting for them to return. I drank the full one litter bottle of water and thought what if we had no water to drink!!

yeah i have been there before, which is why when people automatically assume that i am some trust fund baby it annoys me, i have been at the go to bed hungry wake up and go to school hungry, be hungry all day. then walk several miles back home. my mother did her best, and it was a long time ago. but that is why i love and respect that woman who sacrificed so much to put her 3 babies through school and college. it is hard and i know what suffering is, which makes me empathize with others.

Hi mama, Reading your version I felt the reality looming large infront of me. Yes now even I can see you as you described here in your response. And my salute to that mom of yours who never stooped and help you all through into life. Thanks for sharing such a touchy tale.

I think people who had experienced the earthquake and the agriculture disaster must know the feeling of hunger and thirst. I really don't know what's the urgent feeling of it.I'm lucky.hehe!

Hi, Yes, what you have said is correct if people after such disaster are not provided food and have no access to drinking water. Actually extreme poverty leads one to experience the real hunger and people living in the desert areas know how much importance does water hold for them. We can only make a hypothesis for we have never been in such situation.

Hi Rajib, I have not known what it's like to be really hungry or thirsty, but I have heard others speak of being hungry, including my parents and older siblings. There has never been a shortage of drinking water where I live so thirst is not a problem. I can only imagine what some people have to experience where there is a real shortage of food and water. Hopefully we can someday eliminate such poverty. Blessings.

Hi there, We would not undergo the real experience of hunger and thirst as we are above poverty line and can manage things at finger's tips. But I can feel the hunger of child who collects the left overs from inside the dustbin and relish on the 'food'. Seeing such a scene you probably feel sick or some people would puke but life is just like this and there is no alternate way.

HI sanajana, I feel you response over here got truncated and a little portion remained. Still I feel your pulse. Yes most of us go for fasting such as the Muslims are now fasting as the month of Ramadan is on and Hindus too fast for a couple of days on different occasions. These fasting surely has association with hunger but you still do not feel it to its extremity for you know that thee is food at home and at the end of the imposed fasting/hunger you can relish on your food and hence you are deprived of the real feeling of hunger and thirst.

Hello my friend Rajib Ji, Hunger and thrust are very close with each other. I have thrust to complete my home work, before I go to bed. having money, I searched in jungle, but could not find any eatables to subside my hunger. A hungery parson may survive, but thirsty person may not live upto that time. On 21 Jun, 2009, a girl was fed through pipeline for her hunger and thrust to keep her alive. Hunger and thrust go side by side. But thrust dominates hunger.May God bless You and have a great time.

If it's in terms of literal hunger, hunger is the craving for food and thirst is the craving for drink. But in it's deeper sense, it really has lot of meanings. For example, your hungry for love from the one whom you want to love you. Or your hungry and thirsty for espiritual direction. There can be a lot of meanings if you just dig deeper into it.

Hi pjsr, I was actually not hinting at the multi dimensional meaning of hunger. What I wanted to know is have you ever really been in such a state or condition where there is no food but you need to eat something or drink something. A dire situation.
