Running a Race Course

Well, this morning I went out to try my new trail shoes. I got to the park and noticed an arrow at the start of a trail. I decided to follow it. And then later there was another arrow. So I followed that one too. I just kept following these arrows, until I got to a place where I saw a large clock set up.
As I was doing my cool down stretches, I saw the group of participants in this race start. When I got home I looked online to see what the race distance was, and apparently it was a 7 mile race. But I definitely missed some arrows then, because I only ran about 3 miles. Still, I thought that was pretty cool that I ran part of the course of the trail race.
The trail shoes are definitely better than running practically barefoot on the trails, but I had hoped the shoes would magically make my feet feel better and they weren't that amazing. My left ankle was killing me so much this morning that I had to stop and walk a few times. So I'm going to take it really easy on my ankles for these next couple of weeks before the 5K. I don't want my ankles hurting while I'm trying to make a new record for myself.

Take it easy! give it a week and then try the ankles. If they still hurt, then maybe you should see a doctor ,a foot doctor and see if there is anything you can do. I'm sorry,I soundd like your mother.

I have actually been thinking about seeing a doctor. I'm trying to drastically cut back on running while still running just barely enough to stay at my current speed. I've been doing more swimming and cycling than running lately.
I guess right now I'm just afraid if I see a doctor they'll say not to run the 5K or something. So I'm going with my resting plan for now and icing the ankles and such. They aren't as big as they were that one time, but still, they really aren't normal size yet and I'd like to see them nice and small again.
It looks like from what I'm reading online, that I could have injured a tendon on the inner part of my ankle. But it should fix itself if that's it, as long as I don't overdo it. Which for some reason is incredibly difficult for me. Even though for several years I didn't really exercise at all.

Thanks. Tonight I'm going to ride the exercise bike for awhile, since that should burn off a bit of energy and it doesn't seem to hurt my ankles (except occasionally momentarily if I slip my foot or something, but it doesn't make them swell more or anything and my feet rarely slip at all if I just ride barefoot).
Tomorrow I guess I'll go be with the running group, but I'm not going to try my hardest even if we are doing more mile speed test. I know if I try my hardest tomorrow, I'll be ruining my ankles too much and they'll be useless to me at the 5K. If I run slowly then they don't tend to swell.

The trail sounds like a really cool experience, and I am so sorry about your ankles. I hope they do better as you go along and hold up well for your 5K run.Luck to you.

Yeah, the trail was really cool. I saw an egret, a rabbit, a squirrel, and some ducks along the trail. I loved it! It was like when I used to go hiking, but better... because while running I got to see more stuff faster!
At least even though my one ankle was hurting during the run, my ankles didn't hurt any more after the run than they did before the run.
