then worry about if its been done already and if one of your friends are going to feel like you deliberately copied theirs? Why cant mylot have a better search for topics? maybe i just dont know how to do the searches right?
i searched this morning for a discussion like the one i wanted to do. couldnt find anything exactly like what i wanted to do. so, i posted the discussion.
after it pops up many discussions about the same thing. worst of all is one of my friends had the very same topic and headline
so now i worry about them getting upset at me. has it ever happened to you?

Hi ya bunnybon7
I do worry sometimes, yes. I did a search the other day about something because I felt sure it had been done before, possibly by myself ages ago but nothing came up at all remotely like the discussion I wanted to start. I don't know if I searched properly using the correct wording or what but I did try several ways using different wording but still nothing. So I guess when you have done that then there is little you can do apart from not starting your discussion which would be a shame. I am sure there are so many repeats that mylot can't even keep track of it all!!

Well I have had people on my friends list who have started the same discussion as I have a bout a month ago. They obviously don't have their notifications on or else they would have known that I had started the same discussion not long ago. I guess it is going to happen from time to time and I am sure you would be forgiven. I would forgive you if you did it to me!

I've done a similar discussion to one already been done but I try and put a different slant on the subject so that it's different. I have posted news items and found someone beat me to it but mine are mostly first.
I heartily agree that the search feature leaves a lot to be desired.

Yes, that has happened. Once I did a discussion, and a responder who was also on my friend list pointed out that she had started a discussion similar to mind a few days prior to my own discussion. The thing is, I have over 200 e-mails a day from Gather and Mylot, so I don't get through all of my mylot notifications for quite a while (example: this says your discussions I am answering was posted 4 days ago). And I had yet to get to hers. And searching for similar discussions usually doesn't aid in our effort to be original either. I would hope people would understand that.

hi bunnybon.
i also believe the search on mylot needs betterment. i talked with my friend over here and told her to please, look for the similar topic and search for keywords before creating her own. because when i checked her topics, there are similarities. and she said, i searched, but nothing was found, so i did it. she even shocked after she posted the discussion that similar topics came out, just like what happened to you.
that is one thing i am too seldom starting discussions of my own, there are lots of it posted already. and i just make one, if it's personal experience, never mind if there is similar, but at least, it's my experience.

Hear hear. A while back, people were complaining that multiple posts were being made on the same theme, and that we ought to search for old discussions on the same theme before posting new ones.
Uh huh. Like - try it, baby. Besides, what's the point something happening to you like yesterday, and you having to enter it as post 37 in a discussion that's 2 year's old?!

I feel the same way. I have had this happen. Take for instance the Michael Jackson thing. I would up one and several like it would appear. It just happens and with technology as it is there is nothing much we can do to change it. Even checking to see if there is another similar topic there could actually be one just like yours going up just as you are doing yours. What of that?!

thats happened before once with me and it didnt bother me. some things are just happening and everybody wants to talk about it. so i figure thats what we are here for and i hope no one thinks i copy them, you know? just like the MJ things.

Hi bunnybon7,
I don't have that problem as I don't often make a disucccion only now and again, I mostley just respond so I know what discussions I have done.

I honestly do not know as I have never done a search of a subject before. How do you do it anyway? Where do you search. Therefore I may have posted similar discussions before,. Do not worry about it. Who has the time to search every time you want to post? I certainly don't. Besides your discussion maybe just a little different. If I were yo I would just move on and forget about it. Blessings

It really happens that when you make a discussion, more or less that has been done. I do not blame you or anybody else because we will really run out of idea if we do not post a discussion we came to think of. In my opinion, we may post similar discussions but there will still be slight of main difference. Because no two person has the same and exact thought. Yes there may be but only 1%. And what differs them is the wordings used and the presentation of thoughts. Yes I tend to get disappointed as well when after posting a discussion, someone has already posted a thing like mine. Anyway I am still happy here no matter how the same discussions are. It is just a matter of finding topics that even if I have already posted comments about, still thoughts change. Everyday, every week and every month.

I've brought this up time and time again - the site is a real muddle with regard to keywords etc.
Here's an example - I recently made a post on Dorset, then just for a lark tried to find it using one of the tags I'd put in. Result was a big fat zero! I ended up getting a link to a post that was 3 years old - and which also had 0 replies.
It's the same as topics. People say here that if you type a new topic heading for one of your discussion sub-groups, if it exists in that section already it will come up so we don't get multiple headings.
So not true. You have to type it EXACTLY as it appears listed. We have got "MyLot" "Mylot" "mylot" "My Lot" etc all listed as seperate interests under the same "hobbies" section.

i never write similar discussions purposely but sometime i dont remember sometimes discussions which i have previously started so i make mistakes inn writing similar discussions. also there are many older discussion which match somewhat similar to that of the new discussions and after looking at them i realize that this are similar discussions.

sometimes yes, your not really aware about it. though let it be what matter is the content. if the content is different from the others. it might be the same title but different content and as long as not within the same day or week. better try to recreate a title with the same topic.
