Clogged Gel Pens?

I have been buying a vast assortment of gel pens that I tend to use for my altered books and scrabooks. Gel Pens are such fun to use but they tend to clog up sometimes. Thank goodness they aren't very expensive because it's frustrating having to get them to work. And yes, they still have ink when I discover they are clogged and no longer usable. Does anyone know what we can do to unclog or prevent the clogging of GEL PENS? Thanks so much for you help!

i have this problem every time i buy gel pens from the store i love gel pens but i get so frustrated when they clog up on me and when i sit there and shake them to get them to work again the ink ends up getting shook all up the tube inside the pen so if anyone knows of any tricks to get gel pens to not clog up please let me know i have heard that if you store them with the tips facing downward the will not get clogged but that does not seem to work if they are clogged when i take them out of the package when i get home from the store i put them right back into the package and take them back and get my money back

I have never had that happen to me yet, Cowgirl, they seem to work fine whenever I buy them and use them for the first time, but after a short time of using them, they clog. It's a good thing gel pens are really cheap so if they do get clogged and I can't get them to work, I just toss them. It's not even worth spending the gas and time to go back to the store for a refund.

I try to put the tip over a flame for a split second and then try to write with it. I repeat the procedure until it writes consistently. If after 10 times and it still can't be restored, I just throw it away. Seems to work about 75% of the time for me.

Thanks, Michan! I have heard of that trick before for regular pens. I will give that a try. I am also told to always store gel pens on their sides, never up or down. I hear that helps keep them from clogging.
