I don't mind going to the dentist. I haven't had to have anything major done to my teeth so I don't get nervous about going there. I have heard of some people that have to take a nerve pill before they go to their dentist. Have you ever done this?

I get nervous sometimes when going to the dentist. It all depends on what I am having done there. I have never taken a nerve pill though. I have thought about it though LOL. I just don't have any.

Most dentists can give you something to take while you are there.

No, but I'm sure that the dentist offers a calm down cocktail to those who need it. I've had my teeth drilled, pulled and straightened so having a relaxing time at Dr. Yankums office won't be happening for me.

I think if I had to have a lot of work done then I'd need something to relax me.

I never have BUT I will the next time! I have just gone through 3 weeks of the most excruciating pain. Yesterday was the first day I did not have to take a pain killer. I wakened up on Saturday with pretty bad toothache and waited until Monday to see the dentist. He said I needed a root canal ($2,000.00 I had no dental insurance...OUCH) So I decided to have it pulled ($250.00... smaller ouch) But needed to take antibiotics and painkillers for a week. Then came the extraction and it took 1 1/2 hours as it broke off and the dentist had to dig and dig all the way down to my jaw bone to get all the pieces. I did not feel anything until later and then the pain started. I do not think childbirth or all the broken bones I have had in my life was anywhere nearly as bad as the pain I suffered for the next two week. The painkillers never took the pain away even when I doubled the dosage it only took the edge off. So you can believe that if I have to go to the dentist again I need to be doped to the eyeballs. That was the first extraction I have had since I was a child. Root canals are a cake walk compared to that extraction

I'm so sorry to hear that you had to go through all of that. You're a strong person to deal with that. Yeah, you better get doped up next time.

I've never taken a nerve pill before going to the dentist, it doesn't bother me anymore to go, I just do it and get it over with..haha. I know they can give you some kind of shot to make you relaxed and not be nervous, they can even sedate you if you need it. I know some people are just terrified of the dentist, and I guess it would help.

I do this, I have a very tender mouth and am worried about pain, my Dentist, bless his heart works very hard to not hurt me. Over the years of his care I have gotten much better.

No I have never done this. But it doesn't surprise me that there are people out there who have. Some people are absolutely terrified of going to see the dentist. I suppose I am a little bit like you as I do not have unhealthy teeth and have never had to have any major work done on them.
