Idiot Mercedes driver is a welcome distraction

After my daughter's crisis yesterday, I was worried about whether she would overcome her nerves and make it to school today. She had a long talk with her Spanish teacher after school and that seemed to calm her nerves.
This morning she was nervous still and her stomach was bothering her a bit, so I wasn't sure if she'd make it.
Then God, the Fates, good luck, whatever it was, sent us an idiot Mercedes driver. There was somebody up ahead of me driving really slowly and Mr. Mercedes was right up my butt tailgating. So I started, as I often do with idiot drivers, softly telling him what an idiot he was. I pointed him out to the kids and said, "just watch, when we get up to where there are two lanes, he is going to pass us like we're on the Indy 500." And Mr. Mercedes did not disappoint. He passed us so quickly that I was almost expecting a sonic boom. No blinkers of course. Apparently they are optional equipment on some cars, especially Mercedes. When we got to the stop sign in front of the second elementary school, he was stopped in front of me, looking in the rear view mirror and I mouthed "you are an idiot". I doubt he saw me, but the kids were laughing hysterically.
Anyway, we got to the Middle School and Dearra looked at me nervously, I told her to remember what her Spanish teacher told her yesterday, that we all loved her and then she got out and started walking. Hooray! One small step for a middle schooler, one huge boost to her pride and self esteem (I hope)...

I had a good laugh about a red car this week - taking off from the lights like a racing car and slamming to a stop at the next lights. Through about 2 kms of main road, this car always ended at the lights in the next lane to me. He was learning patience (I hope) waiting there while I cruised up to the lights just before they changed back to green. I pity anyone buying his car when he's finished trying to wreck it!
Dawn, that Mercedes, coupled with your wonderful sense of humour was just the right thing for Dearra that morning. You probably had a more nervous day than she had. I'm sure that once she was inside, everything was OK. She's had a lifetime of good example from you and she would have handled everything. She is at a difficult age, but she WILL come through with flying colours.
I'll be looking for the next episode. . . . .

Actually, she came home and told us things were totally normal almost as soon as I dropped her off and that none of the other kids had any idea...

Hopefully there won't be a next episode. At least as far as Dearra being afraid to go to school. More funny stuff, OK, I look forward to it too!!!

She came home and said, "mom, nobody even looked at me, so I guess they really didn't remember it at all."

I do hope things went well for her......I bet she was a nervous wreck....so at least she has had one small step.....and remind her that in just a couple of days it will be old news and everyone will have forgotten about it....she is one the mend!

The day after it happened, the school was evacuated. So I'm pretty sure everybody had already forgotten about it even before yesterday. But I'm proud of her for taking that first step. Hopefully everything went fine today.

I’m glad Dearra is feeling a little better. Sometimes a bit of a laugh can lighten the mood and take some of the pressure off. Good to hear that her teacher is on board in trying to assist her. The idiot in the Mercedes will never know that he was actually helpful in his own idiotic way! (LOL)

Nope, he won't. He probably won't be driving any slower the next day either. At least he was good at the stop sign by the school with the crossing guard. :-)

Nope she didn't but she worries too much about what the other kids think. I'm sure if she makes it through today OK she'll be fine!

Humour can help in many situations. I am so glad that it was sorted out. In a few days she will be fine. Don't worry.
