Well, I know now that we have had plenty of rain. No, it isn't flooding here yet. We are only two hours from Atlanta though. I am at work and I was taking the dog out to relieve herself and there, inside the threshold is a snake. A young one. About 7 inches long and only big around as a pencil. However, because it is so small I can't tell for certain what kind it is. I saw no buttons so most likely it's a rat snake. But I know for a fact that we have had rattlesnakes behind the shop in the past. It went under the drink box, but from there I don't have a clue. I just hope it goes back out because my customers aren't going to like it if they look down and find a snake, of any kind, by their feet. My husband doesn't like snakes either. I don't like not knowing what it is. And the fact that it is young concerns me that others are around. My rule is, you stay outside and I leave you alone. You come inside, well, there will be ramifications. There are just too many places it can hide here. You want him, you can come find him.

I don't think this one is poisonous. But there are plenty around that are. My husband found a large rattlesnake in our back yard while cutting grass a few years back. There was one on his cousins deck 2 years ago. We pay attention when outdoors. There was a rat snake that got inside our home a few years ago. How it got in I haven't a clue. That wasn't any fun.

Truth is, my unique, to be polite, adoptive parents actually gave my brother and I speckled king snakes one year. So I have handled snakes. I also worked in several pet shops that had snakes. But I knew those snakes. There is a difference. So no, I don't like it when one appears out of no where. Great to hear from you sweetie.

I was born and raised in Texas. We had copperheads hanging out in the roads. They were often on our front porch. Had to watch out for the water mocassins too. And coral snakes. No gators fortunately. We did have big cats, mountain lions. A few years ago we found a large snake in our house here in Alabama. It went into the junk closet. What a mess. My husband standing there with a shovel, shoveling out the closet to find the snake. At one point I had to leave the room to giggle because it was quite a show. My aunt lives in Colorado. They have to worry about bears and such. No thanks.
