Have you talked infront of the mirror? Can we know ourselves better doing that?

Dear Mylotters, In-front of the mirror -- There will be many funny things happen.. Smiling, talking, preparing for an interview, dancing, showing our baby in-front of the mirror to eat food, styling, dressing and much more...... These are some of the activities we do in-front of the mirror. But most of all, talking in-front of the mirror is different from everything as we make others to think that we are crazy. But sometimes we need to talk and practice before the mirror if we need to meet some people of dignity or going for an interview or when a giving a speech to a crowd..... In what circumstances you talk before the mirror? Have you talked in-front of the mirror? Can we know ourselves better doing that? Does self-confidence increases? Does it helps in get rid of shyness? Please share your thoughts..... Cheers... Have fun and enjoy life...

I hate looking in the mirror. Its not fun when you have a low self esteem. Not something I tell many ,as they always disagree thinking ,I am crazy. But if its true about breaking mirrors and having seven years bad luck ,I have got to be the unluckiest person alive breaking far more than ,I can count.

Why, of course I do :) Talking in front of the mirror once in a while isn't that bad at all. In my opinion, it is good to talk in front of the mirror because it is the only way that we can see how we look like when we face and talk to other people. I usually do that when I practice for our Speech class and even when I am about to do oral reports. Even in the morning I try to talk in front of the mirror to condition myself to become positive for the day. I try to smile, and I try to ask myself some things. It works that way :)

I have done it before to prepare for public speaking but it is not something that I enjoy doing I must say! I am not sure if it made me more confident or not. It was useful to see how I looked as I was talking such as mannerisms etc but on the day I felt just as nervous as if I had no practice at all! Talking to the mirror is not something I do on a regular basis.

Hi. I used to work on sales. That´s when I started to do that: talk with the mirror. I was advised to and I have to say that really works! I was looking to the mirror and talking. To see our expressions it´s a very good exercise. I only used that for professional reasons but I guess you can use it in your normal life. One advice: When talking to the mirror, if you ever get an answer, RUN LIKE HELL!!!

If you do have an answer, first look behind the mirror. If no one is there, the yes, you can RUN THE FASTEST YOU CAN! :)

When I was in high school and at the university, I talked to myself in front of the mirror to prepare for oral exams. It helped a lot because I could see exactly how I project myself in front of other people. I would practice eye contact and the appropriate gestures like clasping both hands, pointing and the like. I don't do this anymore.

Yes, I agree you that when we talk in front of the mirror, surely we look crazy to others, but it really helps us to gain confidence in what we are doing, and of course it helps a lot in getting rid of shyness. A lot of people are shy and want to remove their shyness, so talking in front of the mirror will let them know themselves better and they will come to know what is bad in them or is something missing in them. If they are going to attend a elocution or at a party or function they have to give a speech, so if they practice in front of the mirror, they can see how are they speaking, what actions they are performing while speaking, is their accent correct and much more. So, talking in front of the mirror is really helpful.

yea thanks for agreeing to my opinion. But yes I too think that we really look crazy when we speak out in front of the mirror and seem funny to others, So, we shouldn't actually think about others and mind doing our own work.Am I right? happy mylotting!

I personally don't talk in front of a mirror, since I spend very little time there LOL, 'cause I'm a 'boy', and my hair is going, so I don´t even need a mirror to comb myself LOL. However, I talk to myself sometimes in a loud voice when I get overly concerned or worried about something, and that 'thing' just keeps intruding in my mind, leaving no space for more constructibe thought. I tell myself off, like "Well, that's enough, buddy", or something like that. Just hearing my voice (in that case an exasperated voice with authority) helps then. I don´t do it very often though, because it's not very often that my mind is clogged up with worries. Nice post, all the best to you.

I haven't done this for several years, but when I worked as a musician/entertainer, I used to stand in front of the mirror to practice making announcements, as if to an audience. It felt a little strange at first, but I could see all the things that I was doing wrongly and could put them right. I would say that we can know our outward appearance better by doing this, but meditation has proved far more powerful for me to get to know myself better. - Derek

I think that on top of all you have said, talking in front of a mirror before going to an important meeting or interview, can help perfect mannerisms so as to not give the interviewer or meeting holder the wrong impression. We in fact do many things in front of a mirror from silly to serious, to just grooming. I think that a mirror can be used to boost self confidence, enetertain oneself or child with funny faces, and even just store things behind in the case of a medicine cabinet with mirror! I hope that you are doing well. Have a wonderful day.

when i was taking up psychology as a degree our teacher told us that the best way to know how we come across is to talk in front of the mirror. this way we'd discover how we come across. of course the way how we come across is totally different from who we are (sometimes, i think) but this talking in front of the mirror may shed light to how others react differently to you than what you would expect. believe me it's true for i oftentimes wonder why people start to pay a little bit of a different kind of attention when i talk. turns out i come across as very opinionated.

Talking in front of the mirror? Acctually no I haven't. Usually I make funny faces or kiss the mirror before a date. It's supper fun just messing around in the bathroom with yourself. Another way to occupy yourself when your bored. Checking out yourself before a special occation, or just pretending that the mirror is your date. How fun could that be. Whoever made mirrors will defently get an A+!

I find looking at the mirror sometimes can be cool and sometimes not. It would feel really awkward if I keep staring in the mirror but at the same time, once I start looking, I'll be able to spot so many things like a misplaced certain parts of the hair, unkempt this and that and many more. But I love to brush my teeth while looking in the mirror; don't know why. Perhaps it has become a habit.

Hi philip, you changed your photo, so I was a bit perplexed to whether it is the same person or not hi hi...I do talk infront of the mrror occassionaly. When I am angry, I scream at myself, when I am sad, I make a glum statement to myself, when I am happy, I give myself a 70mm smile and before going to meet some important person, I practice my speech!!! The last time I did so was when i was called for an interview...Luckily i had read an article on most asked questions in interview and i practised the same question over and over...It did help...when I was being asked the same questions, I couldnt help giving a smile...I really felt confident. I think one gets stucks in conversation if one is nervous, I believe that to an extent, we can ward off that nervousness.

Hello! Sometimes I talk in front of the mirror to assess how much weight I've lost or gained. I also talk in front of the mirror whenever I prepare for a speech. You've mentioned about self confidence. Self-confidence, for me, depends on what aspect of yourself that you talk about.
