Broke! Not even a penny in your pocket? What would you do? Searching every square inch of your house, hoping there is money hiding somewhere? Or are you trying to sell or pawn one of your valuable items, or maybe try to borrow some money from friends and family? Once when I was in college, I thought darn I'm really out of money. And then I started searchin all my bags, my drawer, I even flip every pages of my books..hahaha...talking about desperation. I founds some coins with total about couple dollars. Anyway, I end up asked my mom if she can lend me some money just to go through the week. LOL Any story you want to share?

I happened a couple of times because my salary comes on 1st & I will be almost out of cash by the month end. So a couple of times I was completely zero & I had to search for each & every penny available in the house. I hope such a situation won't happen again. Happy Lotting

Thank goodness, we've never been completely out of money. The only reason that it works out this way for us is that I have a very small savings account at a credit union that I've had for the past six years that I had to have when I worked at the hospital. When I quit they deposited the rest of my pay for vacation and sick time into the account. We haven't touched that since then so we can always say that we are not totally broke. Also, we always keep change in each of our two vehicles so at the very least we always have at least a dollar at our disposal.

I have been there done that. It is a bad thing when that happens but it has happened to me alot. My bank account is always in the negative and I cant see how to make it positive. I have a full time job but I also have 3 kids and a wife that thinks we need everything and the kids need everything. I am now in the process of getting a second job because I do have a few hours on my hand in the morning and I need more money.

I have never actually been completely broke. I've managed to budget well and really cut back on my spending so I'm not outrageously spending money and always desparate about where I'm going to get my next dollar from. I think I've done quite well with it too. I truly hope that it never comes down to me being broke either cause I'm not sure what I'd do with myself.

That's good, it took years for me until I can really get a hold of this financial stuff. And that my wish too, specially in here I have two kids that I have to take care.

I would probably have a garage sell. Sell some stuff that I really don't need. At this stage of my life I couldn't see asking my parents for anything. The last time we had a garage sell between my daughter and myself we made $85.00 in a matter of 3 hours, so that was good.

Garage sell, that's a good idea, get rid of stuff that just lay around the house.

Yes you are making money and you are helping someone who might need certain things that they can't afford at a regular price at the store.

Hi ibuemma... Oh gosh YES..I hate to have to say that we have but it has happened more often than I care to mention..Hubby has been laid off for several months now. In between the unemployment checks we have been counting change. Looking under floor mats and anything else that we could think of. I will have to say somehow we have gotten thru each time..Have a nice day...

I know how you feel. Right now I feel a lot better that I have my off line job, and paycheck coming weekly. I know I save some money aside every month, which I'm not even tell my hubby. Just pretend we don't have it and always live on the budget.

Yes, we've been that broke. We had to go through our favorite things and sell them on eBay to make some money to pay some bills. It was a very sad time because some of those things we will probably not be able to replace.

yes times are tough and this happens to alot of people.. i have been there done that. especially with the econmy these days, its just making it harder.. I was once at a time that i was paying the bank more money in fees for overdrawn accounts then i was actually bringing in a month! As soon i thought i would catch up and get a break something else would happen and set me back farther then i was originally. All i can say when times are tough and it seems like you are doing all you can do and there is nowhere else to go.. swallow your pride, ASK for help! its the best thing you can do for you an your family!

I used to when I was in university. The atm machine broke down and I was too busy to go to town. It was sux~~~ At least you can search the house for coins but I don't have places to search at all. I managed to survive, thanks to free meals from the Dining Hall but it was though to go through the days as I need money for assignment. In the end, I borrowed some money for bus fare to the town to withdraw money.

ya i have faced it being a student , getting money transfers that too restricted to limits it happens many times because of unplanned expenses i spend a lot when i have my pockets filled up with currency but in the next few days i find myself saving every penny i get and start managing things and many a times i've sold some things which i brought with great pleasure and had a whole lot of affection with them like my cellphones and few others too i think this teaches us a lesson when we have someone or something , we dont care about it we dont respect it and the time when it goes away , we know its worth

yes, i had that experience, too when i was a student. we had to rent a room when we were studying in the city (we come from the province). we had to budget our money for the week for our food and small needs. there was no immediate way to contact my parents at that time because there was no landline nor cellphones available during those times (must be very long ago ... i am already 52, lol). we send letters and get our money from people who will come to the city or thru the bus drivers. it was at a time when the money has not arrived yet and i didn't have any cent to spend. i had to borrow from my board mate. i paid it the following day, when i met the bus driver with my allowance. lol

I think I would have to say yes to that question. Haha. I am currently a college student so it has never been easy for me in terms of money. I have a limited allowance because I try to save some money also to help my parents, knowing that we can't always have enough all the time. Budgeting is just fine with me but sometimes I get broke because of other payments in school. Well, it goes that way.

When my mom was diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I had to stop working for a while. Having a mom with cancer is not cheap. I had to pawn my jewelry in order to make it, till I could get another job.

I know the the feeling, because I've been there once in a while. Believe me, when I read your topic, I smile, for that's exactly what I did when I was totally broke, but not as bad as zero though. I seek my old wallet, hoping there's still some cash remained from the past. May be I would sell out my cat if I had one :) But fortunately, soon I can regain my finance stability every time I get broke. Yes, sometimes I borrow some money from my cousin ( he is good at managing money and always has positive level in his bank account ). Credit card is one of my savior too, but sooner or later has become my worst enemy, had made me almost ruined under the pressure of high debt. But thanks God, now I am free and won't let this money stuffs eating my normal life anymore.

I think I have been once, and it was like 2 days before payday.. I think I found like 10USD in my wallet, I think it was given to me by my uncle when he visit us here in the philippines. I went to foreign exchange and have it changed to I think 500PhP.. that got me through two days..... good thing payday was just a couple of days away, cause if not, I don't know where would I get the money I need.

Actually having no money in my pocket is a nightmare, the thing is what should I buy, What should i fare going to school?, How do i eat? Grrrrrr. this is the disadvantage of not having a money in the pocket, Since then, I'm a one day millionaire, means when I have a lot of money I spent it in juts one day and by the nest day I'm out of money that was before when I'm still a student. Now, I cant leave without money, that's the purpose I am here in mylot to earn money and friends, You know what I like this site more than other sites, if I already knew this before I earned a lot of money already and I enjoyed it. Money makes the world go round, without it almost all the things related to industry you cant get it. MONEY MONEY MONEY, PROBLEM OR SOLUTION?
