Well, they change a number of the premises of the book, for one thing, they change the time of the flash forward from 21 years to 6 months - a change much more in line with the needs of a TV show.
They also leave the scientist and follow other people, again, something that would appeal to a TV show, especially in this day of the ensemble casts that work pretty well.
But the thing that really makes me happy is that its from one of my FAVORITE writers! Robert J. Sawyer! I'm so happy one of his books has finally been picked up by the media! maybe they will make his Hominid trilogy movies if this goes well!!!
YEAH!!! Go Robert - I hope they paid you well and you can write lots more GREAT books!

I did not know this show was from a book. I've been interesting in maybe watching this show. I, however, have been disappointed in the past cause you just can't get the true feel of the book when it is made into a movie or tv show. Look how Stephen King's books have been butchered. But since this is an episodic show rather than a mini-series or made for tv movie maybe it will be better. I'm hopeful and hope I get to watch. Otherwise I'll have to check it out online.

[b]Okay...Geezerhood has arrived.... What books of his have you lent to me, Elic? I can't place his name. Is he the one who wrote about the human who met an alien & then wound up going to his world & becoming unable to relate well to humans any more? I'd sure like to see those books made into films! (Pretty cerebral for film, though, perhaps....)

Flashforward is due to start here in Australia next week and from the promos I’ve seen I have to say it looks great and I’ll be checking it out for sure. I don’t know anything about the book; I may have to read it although watching a story from a book on the screen is usually disappointing because the book is always so much better.
Great achievement for an author to have your book made into a film or a TV series!

I don't think I've read any of Robert's stuff, though I have heard of him (he is from Toronto, after all). And I haven't heard anything about the show (I've been away from fandom for ages, now). Let's hope they do a good job of it. Do you have any idea who's to be in it?

I defintely enjoy watching this series. We watch it every week. It's up there with The Amazing Race and Survivor. I'll have to get the book to see how they fare against each other.

Hey Elic! I didn't know about this book so thank you for
enlightening me. This show looks like it is going to be a
definite hit! You will have to keep us updated as to how loosely
it is actually based on the originally story. You have already
said that they have changed some of the plot for "made for tv"
audiences as would be expected! From what I have seen of the
"teasers" it does look like something I would definitately
enjoy watching! I am looking forward to the premiere tonight!
