I live in a small town and although we don't have certain advantages found in a big city, I like it here. There is something special about being on a first name basis with most of the people you meet, and standing on your deck talking to your next door neighbour. Where do you prefer to live and what do you think are the advantages and disadvantages?

I live in a metropolitan, and the advantages that I clearly see are: having public transportation options, having endless possibilities of what I can do, not having to worry about hitting deer and likewise animals while driving (except for the occasional stray cat or dog, of course), being able to have stores within walking distance, having a diverse group of people around you 24/7. The downsides may or may not outweigh the advantages. Crime rates are sky-high, the standards of living are possibly more expensive than in small towns, we have to worry about traffic, pollution, and the stress of living in an uber-industrialized and uber-populated area, which can sometimes be a drag. But I love city life. There's always something to do; I run out of money before I run out of things to do. . I enjoy vacationing and spending time in the country and in small towns, but I just don't know if I could ever really leave the city - just because I've lived here all my life, I'm so used to it - a "city girl", if you will. And just for the record, I live in Minneapolis, MN, USA. .

i often see it on tv about those deers and other wild animals crossing down the street in those country place in US. i don't think we experience that even in country areas in my country the philippines. i just don't know why there are not wild animals crossing the streets in these country side in my country. but i find it scary if you have bears around , i am not sure if you have bears in those country side up there. and in your city i think there are so many different nationalities. in my city only see mostly locals only. i rarely foreigners around. there are not much tourist except for some other asian nationalities who has made residence here like the koreans and etc.

Hi maezee, Thank you for your comment and it's always good to be able to live where you are happy. While I would rather have the quiet of a small town, there are times when I long for some of the advantages found in the big city. Blessings.

I like to live in big city.It is very convenient to live in big city. You could find big hospital, mang shops. And so you could buy everything you want quickly. There i could also find a good job.Without job i couldn't survive. That is the most important. There many amusement places in big city.At the weekend,i could go there an entertain myself. Well big city is noisy and full of people. If we are young,we had better stay there. It need us and we also need it.Young people are energetic. They need places to play in.

Hi Pose, I grew up in a small town and I love my life there. When it's time to find and job I moved to the city, and from then up to now, I'm still here (in the city). Comparing the two, I like the countryside better, with less air and noise pollution, less traffic, and a simpler life. But right now I cannot afford to leave my city life but I hope when I retire, I can go back there and live where it's closer to nature, more peaceful and less frantic.

Hi doryvien, Thank you for your comment. There are many people like you who have to live in the city because there are few job opportunities in small towns. I hope that you will get the opportunity to enjoy your retirement years in in the small and ares that you enjoy best. Blessings.

I live in a small town near a city that is large for our state. I find everything I need to live a simple life. I don't need any of the big city amenities. I also love that I can stand on the porch and talk with my neighbors. When we have people over and it gets too loud too late, they come by or ring the phone to let us know. It is much more pleasant. I have lived in a city once and I found myself feeling a bit claustrophobic.

I grew up in a small small town and while it was beautiful and really nice that everyone knew each other it was also a little stuffy and people were more scared of what they didnt know. I have lived in an extreamely busy town as well and the clubs were always hoping, the music scene was great and there was always jobs but traffic was horrible. People were sometimes rude and the streets were dirty. So if I had a choice I would live on the outskirts of a medium city. A city just big enough to have fun and culture but not so big to have too much traffic. I'd like to have a couple of achrers of land and room to roam around. Thats the kind of place I would love to live, maybe with some moutains in the back ground.

I prefer the small town life as I have lived in both a metropolis and small cities. Although there may be a lot more to do in the big cities, I hate how there is so many people. Every where you go is crowded. On the other hand, you can get to almost anywhere without having to drive there. I like the small town life because of the quieter and much cleaner air. The big cities are fun to visit, but I do not like living there.

I live on a farm place and there are a lot of advantages over living in a town or city. People have told me how can i live out in the middle of nowhere and that my children would be lonely from not having play mates, but I think that is wrong. There is always something to do outside here. My children have buildt forts in the groove or the barn, the built their own little skate park, we can play outside without having all the noise around us. Badmitten and horeshoes. We don't have to worry about people who are fighting next door a be overrun with children that we don't want out own children playing with. I just see more advantages becuase it's open spaces for the children to go outside and just experience things. We get to see the eagles when they come back for nesting, we can drive down the road and go fishing off the bridge, we get so see shunks and racoons, wood chucks and other animals that you wouldn't see in a town. Wood ducks and geese that land when they are migrating. I just see so much more beauty out here and the quiet is appreciated. I firmly belive that our world is going 100 miles an hour and it's nice to come home and be in your own little haven and taking things at your own pace instead of the pace of what's going on around you.

Now i live in a small town. My town is so small and not interesting like no big shopping mall, no club or gym and no big chance for career. I would like to feel live in big town. Maybe you will think i am greedy but i think it is boring to live in the town like my town. I just want more happiness and can shopping happily but it is long enough to wait for the change in my town.Nothing change in my town and not make me proud enough than other town in my country.

My response to this is that I believe there are advantages & disadvantages to both - as in everything in life. The good thing about small towns is that you know everybody and everybody knows you. While it can be reassuring and comforting, I think people can also get nosy quite easily. After having lived in a small town almost all my life, I am now quite happy to live in a city where I can quite happily enjoy a happily anonymous existence. I choose who I want to talk to, who knows what about me, and who I hang out with. I must admit, it is a relief. And feels good.

I actually can't stand living in a big city. Tall building and concretes terrify me. I prefer living in a small town where everything is centered in one place, so I don't have to roaming around just to find ATM, for example. Big city is nice if you want to spend shopping vacation there. But for daily life, it's way too busy and poluted.

I like small town living, I have never lived in a big town or city. I do know that I wouldnt like it thou. I love being able to go outside and look at the trees, take a walk and not worry about things that in cities it seems you must look out for. I love that my kids have room to run and play outside in the grass and that we can have a nice garden. Yep small town living is for us!

I'm a city girl all the way. I've been stuck in a fairly small town for the past year and a half and have hated every moment of it. There's so little to do, the people all seem very small-minded and gossip is rampant. Give me the anonymity of a city anyday! The only bonus I see to this small town is the beautiful, picturesque surroundings, and great camping spots. I can understand why people want to live in small towns, though. The pace is good for those people who like to lead a slow, steady life. They're great for raising children, and they can be wonderful for your mental well-being if you like being involved in your community (and having your community be involved in YOU!). Often people choose to live in small towns because they are close to family and established friends, which also makes a lot of sense if you like the security of being surrounded by loved ones. They're quiet (mostly), and while petty crime (like shoplifting and vandalism) do occur, a lot of violent crimes like homicides aren't commonplace and are considered shocking when they do occur. The biggest advantage of the city is all the amenities are nearby. There are a large variety of restaurants and events, new people to meet all the time, all kinds of shops and stores for all your needs, and easy to navigate public transit, which is a big bonus for people who are living green or who don't enjoy driving. There are also tons of employment opportunities in a city as compared to a small town. They're sort of a mecca for those who are young (or young at heart) who like to live a busy, full life as opposed to the sedentary pace of smaller centres. My personal favorite thing is having an International airport RIGHT THERE. It's difficult to travel the world if your homebase is several hours away from one. :) The biggest disadvantage is how busy and noisy everything is! Sirens, fights, violence, traffic -- it's all rampant in a city. Plus there's not a lot of green areas in many cities, which is kind of an eyesore and quickly wears on you if you like the tranquility of park-land. And all the light pollution prevents people in most cities from seeing the stars. My ex boyfriend and I used to drive out to the country on weekend evenings just to stargaze. Many people I know in cities take 'breaks' several times a year to go camp or hike and reconnect with nature and it's tranquility. I'm one of them -- a fast-paced city girl who likes to look at stars.

I used to live in a small town of about 30,000 people. You knew just about every body there and every body knew you. Grant that has its advantages but it can also have it's down falls at the same time. i kind of like where I'm at now because we are in the city but we still have some leeway of who knows what because of that. I guess it's just because I lived the country life for so long that it's nice for every body to not to know your business or know if you had relations with another person. A rumor or fact got a round very quickly. We had 4 elementary schools and one highschool. Three of the schools went to 8th grade and the one in the city went to 7th grade. 8th grade was in the highschool by then. So I grew up withthe sae peopleday in and day out it got aggrivating

I prefer living in a large city. I love the feeling of a big city. I would love to walk out of my door and just see the hustle and bustle of the city in front of my eyes. It is just a feeling of excitment! The country is way too quiet for me. I need noise. There is always tons to do in a large city also. In a small town, you usually have to travel a ways to get somewhere. A city is definitly more exciting than a small town.

It is much better to live in a town than in a city because the air is much clean and it is peaceful than in a city. Pollutions are over. Air, water and sound pollution. All of this are in town. The disadvantage that I see living in a town is that if it is far from the city which its hard to buy things that you need. Hope this helps.

I can say i like big cities, because i dont but I also i dont like small towns, big cities, are too crowded, and very high traffic, and more people walking and dangerous, especially when you have kids. now small towns, well i like them in a way but i dont like it to be away from a city because there is things you need and i really dont like to drive 20 miles just so i can go and get some groceries. like where my husband is from this little town call Yantis in texas, i mean you have a gas station put that's it and you dont even see your neighbors house and those little country roads, are terrible when driving, too many bugs, you can scream murder and no one can hear you. so i guess i am in between, not too big of a city but also not to isoladed. like when i get my house i dont wanted to be in the city, but somewhere quiet and peaceful where my kids can go outside but not in the middle of nowhere, more like a nice country side, with many beautiful brick houses and i can still go to mall on the weekends.

We don't have a mall though and that would be nice but we like going for a drive once a month or so. It's about a half hours drive to a larger town. Blessings.
