Weekend Update

Canada
September 28, 2009 11:30am CST
Some of you asked for a weekend update. Thank You for asking and special Thanks to all who have responded. My weekend was fabulous. I booked into my room on Friday and my cousin Pat met me there. We had so many laughs and talked about all the crazy things we did when we were kids. Saturday I also got to see my auntie (my moms sister) who is going to be 89 years old in January so obviously seeing her after thirty years was different. Then Saturday night we went to my other cousins place (same family) for supper. My cousin Dale cooked us a BBQ meal and when I saw the size of my steak I thought Oh My Goodness what is everyone else going to eat LOL. The steak was huge and the whole meal was delicious. We visited and then we took auntie home and Pat and I returned to our room where we talked and giggled till two in the morning. Do you think I'm addicted? I even took my computer along and I showed her the site now I'm working on her to get a computer so she can join us!!! On Saturday we went for lunch, food was great, but I had parked in a handicapped parking spot and forgot to hang my placecard on the rear view mirror, so needless to say I got a ticket for one hundred dollars. Ouch that was an expensive lunch. In my best defense I was excited and just didn't think, which is odd for me because as my daughter just said, the funny thing about this is I'm the one that gets so rattled at people parking in the handicapped parking without signs. Has anyone else besides me ever forgot to hang up your sign and got a ticket?

What a bummer to get that ticket after having such a good time otherwise. i'm so glad u got to go & enjoy your break , U sure deserved it. Even tho i need a handicap card i have never gotten one. my som mentioned other day that i needed one . I told him i couldn't get into the court house to get one. he lives in the town the courthouse is in & SAID HE'D GET ME ONE BUT I DOUBT HE HAS THOUGHT ANYMORE ABOUT IT.

Perhaps they could mail you the form or you could get one online, mail it to your doctor and have him mail or fax it to them. It seems some method should exist for those who are having a hard time getting around. After all that is what a handicap0ped tag or placard is for, anyway.

Oh lets hope your son does help you. Here I had to have a doctors report in order to get one. You will probably have to get a doctors approval. Best wishes always and Thank You for your response.

Thanks for the update on your weekend. I am so happy for you, your weekend sounds wonderful. You already know what I was up to this weekend, oh la la. You should be able to get that ticket thrown out, since you do have a handicap thingy. I would call before paying the ticket and see what you could do to prove that you are eligible to park there, Tell them you had a senior moment, hehe. I wish you many more happy fun filled weekends. i just talked to my guy friend, e wants to see me tis Saturday, lol. I made my signs up, one for te front door and one for te back door. Do not disturb, Grammas busy. My friend doesn't want me hanging them up when he is over, lol. I'm bad but at the same time I am fun. So far I haven't heard any complaints.

You want to really rattle your mans cage make a sign that reads: If Grandmas house is a rockin, don't come a knockin. I had that sign for my camper trailer one time. Of course it read: If this trailer is a rockin don't come a knockin. It brought about a laugh or two and it's always good to laugh. Grandmas' Play house. hehehehe Take Care.

So happy for you that your weekend was so splendid Grandma. I'm a volunteer driver and one of my jobs is to transport disabled or elderly people to appointments. To help me I have been given a handicapped parking label. I got to use it for the first time last trip and it was great!! I went to a hardware store and got to park right next to the entrance, same deal at the eye clinic and then again at the supermarket. I hope I don't forget to use it in future. It can only be used when I have a client though.

Most people around here keep it permanently displayed on the dash. You should be able to successfully fight the ticket.

Oh Thank You so much for your response. Yes it is wise to leave the sign on the dash but ours are made to hang and it clearly states they have to be hung only when parked. If my dash was like my last vehicle I could have left it laying on the dash but in this vehicle that won't work. I did call and tell them what happened and told them I had a sign. The girl didn't know what could or would be done about it but she said she would ask the officer and he would call me to let me know so I'm waiting for the call. It's going to hurt to have to pay this but like always we learn from our mistakes I guess. Thanks again.

Oh my, grandma, I typed out a huge response only to have myLot eat it! Something about having characters it didn't like. Huh? It was just text! Well, did you call to see if even though it was your own mistake they couldn't reverse the ticket if you took in your placard to prove you were eligible to have parked there. Isn't being a little forgetful part of some people's disability? What if the placard fell off or something, then would the person still have to pay the fine? I'm glad you had fun, but surely there is something you could do to mitigate the fine. Maybe it is tax deductible or something!

I have forgotten to hang my sign a time or two but I've been blessed that I never got a ticket. Now I have a permanent tag so I don't have to hang the sign anymore. I'm glad you had a good time.

Glad to hear that you had such a wonderful weekend with your family, and I hope your family can get online and want to join us here as a member. As for the Lunch it did turn out to be quite an expensive one, but if you are able to laugh about it then it was not too bad. But sounds like you may never forget to have the sign with you and post it now. I could get one due to I have a permanent disability with my legs, and have a special reduced pass to ride the bus so I should consider one for our car someday as well.

Sounds like you had a great weekend. So glad you were able to see relatives you hadn't seen in years. I don't have a handicap placard. No way I would ever intentionally park in a handicap spot since I am able to walk and get around very well. Yikes, that was an expensive ticket. Any way you can argue it? Another option might be to get a handicapped license plate and then you won't have to worry about it again.

I was in a company car taking a client to an appointment out of town. I thought since it was a company car it would have plates, and never looked, It did not. I got embarrassed at co ordinator's meeting when the director of operations talked about it in front of everyone. I will not make that mistake again.

It sounds like you had a fantastic weekend Grandma! It must have felt wonderful catching up with your cousins, and your mother's sister after thirty years. It must have been quite a reunion! I hope your cousin Pat does get a computer so that she can join us all on here! Keeping my fingers crossed on that one lol! My hubby has a handicap card and once when we parked in a handicap parking spot, the card had fallen down. The parking attendant was still standing at the car when we approached, just getting ready to write out a ticket. When we showed him that we had put up the card but it had just fallen down, he let us off! Nice man! We came back to the car at the right time I think, otherwise we would have got booked.

I'm so glad to hear you had such a wonderful time because you deserve it!! That's really awesome!! As for that darned ticket, you really should take it to court and fight it because you were out of town having a wonderful time that it was a mistake on your part, yes but an honest one. I bet they'll let you off on it so why not give it a try?

hi grandmaof2 so glad you had such a good time, and a lovely visit with your cousin Pat. yes'one' time my best friend Nelda forgot to hang up her handicapped sign, she is partly handicapped and I am noticeably handicapped so just as the parking 'ticket lady was coming around to us, I got in her car and quickly hung up her handicapped sign the ticket lady did not look too happy but the sign was now in place and we were legal. so what could she do?

Hey Grandmaof2! I am so happy for you! I am so glad that you had such a great time visiting with your family! It sounds like the best time ever! You so deserved this weekend! I do hope that in the future you plan many more outings like this one! This is the kind of thing that you should be doing! You should be putting more responsibilty on your husband so that you get these opportunites! It isn't fair that you never get to do these kinds of things for yourself! You need to start putting your foot down! I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time and hope that you get to do it more often!

Hi Grandmaof2! I'm so happy to hear you had such a great weekend! I'm sorry to hear you got a ticket, though! That just put a damper on it, didn't it? I'm glad you were able to laugh about it at least, lol. It could happen to any of us, though. These police really do like that money, don't they? There's no telling how I would feel. I sure couldn't afford $100, myself. The meals all sound so good!I'm also glad you got to see your auntie after 30 years. I'm just glad it was a great weekend despite the ticket. No, I don't think you're the least bit addicted. Kathy.
