Hello, shellback!
Toothpick will create or make breach or gap between your teeth. All you need to do is go to the bathroom and use dental floss.

good sugestions, i realy like that but there are times that you cant find any bath rooms or comfort rooms around so its better to use toothpick gently without scratching the gums, using floss is good, you can use it while you're indoors. thanks.

It is not advisable to use tooth pick. Its right, it can promote bacteria and infection.
My sister assist one of her patient in the hospital. That patient is having a TETANUS because he is using a tooth pick.
I never thought of this and I could believe that it really happens. But this is result of the patient.

I dont think it can lead to such illness, maybe he reused the toothpick or tried to push deep the decaying teeth, many reasons that we can apply regarding that matter,we cant blame toothpick, its in there, all we have to do is the proper way of using it, thanks i've enjoy your comments, happy mylotting

I have been using toothpicks for many many years. I even use the same one many times over. I keep a few in the car even. I have never had bleed, a scratched gum or an infection. Toothpicks are cheap and easy to use. Floss on the other hand is expensive and unwieldy and only cleans the gaps between the teeth. Dentists are always promoting the use of the products they have shares in...just like vets.

Yeah, toothpick could damage gum and it is best to uses dental floss. Aside from it frequent uses of toothpaste makes space in between teeth with gaps which makes a person teeth unpleasant to look and it wrong uses could makes a gum bleed which may be the cause of dental problems.

No the risk of having infection is very high. One of my acquiantaces got tetanus infections from toothpick when he was a teenager. From his story he experienced lockjaw and if his relatives didn't rush him to hospital that day he going to die. He confined in the hospitals for few days that how serious it was and that's why he never uses toothpick again. It is not hygienic and dentist discourage to use this.

I never thought of tooth picks promoting bacteria growth. It kind of seems like the opposite. If little food particles hang out between your teeth, don't you think that would be more of a breeding ground? Maybe the dentist is concerned that when we use tooth picks you can scratch your gums and that can lead to infection?

My gums really bleeds whenever I use a toothpick. I guess dental floss are much safer to use.

I know that dental floss is much safer, I use tooth pick first before floss to remove large stack of food in between teeth. thanks for the comments.

The toothpick has been there long before the advent of dental floss. I suppose if you use the same toothpick, then that would promote bacteria (kidding). I reach for a toothpick when there's something stuck in between my teeth and there's no floss around. Even if there is floss in my bag, I can't very well floss in front of others. Toothpicks are effective in removing large pieces of stuck food. However, I prefer to floss my teeth daily because the floss can reach hard to reach areas (like the back, insides of my teeth) while the toothpick can't.
