Can anyone explain to me why so many in Hollywood are pro child-rape?

I'm really trying to wrap my head around this. We have a disgusting piece of garbage, who at the age of 45 drugs and rapes a 13 year old girl, confesses, then skips bail and flees the country to avoid serving the appropriate sentence. Now it's bad enough that the US didn't immediately push for him to be extradited and returned to the US, but when they finally do, and he is arrested, we have all these disgusting pigs in Hollywood signing petitions to free him. We even have Whoopi Goldberg going on national television saying "it isn't rape rape". Can ANYONE explain this to me? I thought it was a pretty universal belief that child rape is the single most disgusting despicable crime on the planet. How can people like Whoopi Goldberg, Harrison Ford, and Penelope Cruz defend this piece of garbage and even sign petitions ordering his immediate release?

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this one too. He is a monster. He raped a 13 year old girl. He is a pedophile. Why are they taking up for a pedophile? What about all those guys on that show "to catch a preditor" or they going to sign petitions ordering their release too? Just because he made some movies and wins a few awards... Does that give him a free pass to hurt little girls like that? All the celebrities probly are coming to his aid becuase they want to be in his next movie....or have made a lot of money starting in movies of his in the past and they don't want the cash cow to stop. Looks like money means more to them than that poor little girl. People feel sorry for him because of what the manson family did to his wife and child. Yes it is sad. Yes I feel bad for him.....but that does not excuse his criminal behavior.

At least in the case of the people on "To Catch a Predator" they haven't actually hurt anyone and it's only speculation that they would. A lot of the people caught on that show don't even get prosecuted because of the blatant entrapment that takes place. I could understand if these were people saying "I don't believe he would do that" as people said with OJ, but here we have a guy who has confessed, been convicted, and fled to avoid serving his sentence. I just wish someone here could give me an explanation beyond the Hollywood elite condoning any disgusting crimes committed by one of their own. So far that, and money, are the only excuses I've seen and I just don't know how that can help them sleep at night.

Task, you just jogged a childhood memory. Once or twice I had a spanking coming, & I was reluctant to let Mom give me one (quelle surprise...). So I ran. On those few occasions, when she caught me, she gave me extra swats "for running away." I soon decided it was simpler (& quicker & less painful ) just to take it & let it go. And NOT repeat the bad behavior again. (again, wotta surprise...) I think they should lock this cowardly jello-brained perv up for the rest of his sorry life. Even then, at his age, he won't live long enough to get a just sentence length for what he did! Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?"

They have to justify their own lifestyles. IF HE IS GUILTY, so are they....and they don't want the spotlight shown on THEM and their sins.

I didn't know about the petition until I just read your discussion. Haven't watched the news since yesterday morning. Last I heard they were still deciding whether or not they would actually send him to the US. I didn't see Whoopi Goldberg's statement, but I can't imagine why anyone would excuse that type of behavior. Unfortunately I don't know that it actually IS a universal belief that child rape is a crime. It should be...but sadly there are plenty who somehow think that it is okay to abuse other humans. If that were not the case human trafficking wouldn't exist. (pretty depressing subject)

"That's why he has been able to travel freely in Europe for the last 31 years." That part hadn't occured to me, but yeah, that's true.

I am old enough to remember when this happened. I saw it on cable television as I do not lived on the USA and was GLAD that the B*stard was caught at last. i do not understand why people are rejoicing ? I do not understand why they aren't glad that he has been caught. I hope that he is jailed for life and experiences some suffering for what he did to a 13 year old. and at 13 years old, you have been taught (at least then) to obey adults!!! And he did the act even though she said she was ill and wanted to go home. Shame on them! And yes, he did know her age. She has lived her life with this monster in her dreams.

Don't you know? The 'enlightened' Hollywood trolls are actually way smarter and way better than the rest of us. Either they are saying child rape is ok, or, it's not child rape when one of them (stars) does it. Maybe, in their eyes that 13 yo girl should be grateful to Roman Polanski. I'm sure the lot of them had to do similar or worse things to get where they are. Yet, all of us in the 'flyover states' will continue to subsidize their existence. I'm not saying, but politically and socially where do you think these people would fall? To the Right? In the Middle? To the Left? Conservative? Liberal? Is it OK to put 2 and 2 together yet?

Going strictly by their many public statements, & the amount of dough they contribute to Far Left politicians & causes, well...do you do that for causes you don't support? I'm just sayin'.... Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?"

Because they too are scumbags who think it's acceptable to rape children provided that the rapist is a member of the Hollywood elite. Don't you know that the rules of the common people do not apply to them?

Taskr, I know you think of me as someone as liberal as anyone in Hollywood, only without the looks, talent and money...lol...but you'll never see ME defending this a$$hole. I do have one question, though; you didn't word it that way but I've heard and seen so many who have simply said, "Hollywood defends Polanski" or something to that effect, implying that the majority of all actors were defending him. The only broadcast where they listed names there were only a few and most of them were directors and other behind the camera personalities. I may be forgetting somebody but the only "big names" I can think of offhand are Whoopie Goldberg, Debra Winger (I always liked her but she's kind of a "has-been"), Woody Allen - a KNOWN pervert! - and Penelope Cruz. This post is the first I'd seen mention of Harrison Ford. I sure have no explanation of why anyone would defend him however I HOPE there are some in Hollywood who have not and would not! Annie

It shows you what the world has come too and that anything can happen. I think that it is a terrible crime to be committed and that he should have went to jail for life better yet killed!

He's a convicted pedophile. Granted it's sad what happened to his wife and unborn child, but that has nothing to do with this. Neither does the fact that he's a brilliant director. He ought to have done his time a long, long time ago. I hope that they do extradite him and make him serve his time. And I don't understand the people who are making excuses for him.

The difference is that the people that killed his wife and unborn were arrested and sentenced, and are still in prison. They didn't spend the last 35 years in Europe living like royalty.

That's true, but the one doesn't really have anything to do with the other. He needs to be brought back to serve his time.
