Swine flu parties

since the "pandemic" (tempest in a teapot) swine flu is still making it's rounds and school is starting, I heard on the news that parents are having swine flu parties and are trying to expose their children to anyone who has the swine flu so that they can build an immunity to it now rather than in the midst of the epidemic which is being predicted by experts to come this winter. If you haven't heard about this nuevo wave of influenza socials check it out at http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/07/world/americas/07party.html?_r=1 My question is do you think that this is wise? Have you recently attended a swine fly party? would you attend one?

There'es no way I'd have a swine flu party. Since this is a relatively new outbreak for America and little is known how to stop the pandemic from existing, little is know how deadly it can be. The normal flu when exposed builds up an immunity to it. If this disease is so powerful that you're body can't build up an immunity right away, it could fatal. I'd much rather just go and get the flu shot and take the exposure to the virus that they give us.

This year there are 3 things that I am conscientiously trying to avoid. One is people with any strain of influenza, two is the flu itself, and three people who are stupid enough to go to these parties!

Ofcourse i don't think this is wise! What parent would do such a thing? I can understand what they are doing and I feel for them. Influenza socials? Ugh! I think it must come from paranoia. Just like the using of the those hand sanitizer uses to hit me as the same thing. Paranoia. You get to the point of opening yourself up for less immunity to disease by just trying to help yourself stay clear of them. How do you win? Certainly not by these influenza socials.

yes, child endangerment. Do you really think they will cease or will the parents become more frenzied about it?

parents with control issues may. I doubt parents with sense are taking their kids to these things.

You'd think. It seems parents do things for alot of weird reasons and few of them are for the best of the child.

I don't have small children so a flu party is a non issue for me, but if I did, I'd be thinking of doing it. It makes more sense than having them inoculated with the live, unproven virus. We don't know how dangerous those shots can be yet. We do know how this flu acts and it isn't any more dangerous than the "normal" flu that goes around every year.

A few years back I went ahead and got the flu shot trying to avoid that year's flu epidemic. I got the Australian flu, and the Philippine flu, and regular flu that y year. In fact I have never been so sick with the flu in my life. And I am also never going to trust their vaccines again ever. However I would think that parents attempting to expose their children to this bug which has killed numerous people in circulation, especially children and older people, that these swine flu parties would be broken up as some type of child abuse ring or something.

Although it is probably safer than the immunization techiniques, I don't think I would do it. I did take my kids and expose them to chicken pox when they were little because I figured that they could get it and get over it and we wouldn't have to worry about it. They both had them terribly! They were the worse cases I had ever seen and I felt awful about doing it on purpose! My daughter actualy had to see a doctor and my son had them everywhere! Even in his eyes and ears! I don't think it is wise to play with Swine flu. Chicken pox was relatively safer while the Swine flu is unpredictable.
