Mother Nature's wrath

Many of our friends here on mylot are facing Mother Nature's wrath, flood, earthquake in many of those cases you just get out with your skin and if lucky your family. But it brought to mind the situation and I wondered what would be the one thing I would take after I took family and pets. It makes no sense but I would take a small table clock that we brought the second year we were married it is a very old clock and since we have always lived in earthquake country we made a promise to take it with us if we could. What would you take? Would you be practical or sentimental?

I wish there was a capsule that sucks everything in your house in times of calamity or when you had to evacuate your home. It should also obey voice command with a solar battery that charges even on rainy days! But well, I guess when I panic, I just grab the nearest thing to me. Hopefully it's my computer, and cellphone. And well, 2 underwears?

Now this would be a very handy thing to have, someone should work on that. Maybe these services that store your hard drive information in a central place are coming close to that

hi there pat! ^^ well, if that happens but hopefully it won't, i'd take the photos and the important documents. that's what my mother taught me because everything else can be replaced. photos are so significant and the moments captured in these can never happen again so it is important to keep these. the same goes with documents because everything in this world has to be legal and all i just can't imagine being documentless.

I don't know what I'd take. I guess the important papers. We don't really have any family heirlooms - most of those are still at our parents' and grandparents'. And our important photos are on cds in my parents' safe.

If you do have anything to take be wise and put it in a safe place which is easy for you to get to. Fire gives you only seconds to get out, flood a little longer and earthquake no time at all.

I will save important papers and documents like titles, files and of course my laptop and PC. I will try to save more but given a limited time, I will prioritize the above. cheers.

Hey pat! That is a very good question! I have too much of my important stuff in too many different places right now and I really should be more organized! I think that when I start changing my things over for Winter I will make sure that I put all things that are important in one particular bag just in case! I really don't know what I would take in the event of a disaster besides my cats and this bag that I am intending to get packed! There are too many things that I would want to take with me and I know that I can't possibly grab everything so I just don't really know. I have to give it some serious thought now and I intend to! There isn't any one thing in particular like you have picked, there are too many and we know that in the event of a natural disaster there is no time to chose!

I have a safe box, but I had occasion to look in it the other day and like you there is next to nothing in it, I need to give this more careful attention.

i do have a file of all our family documents (family records, birth cert., contracts, etc) in one suitcase. if anything happens, i do made some orientation on all family members that its the first piece of household item that they should carry out away from home. and the best thing is that its always accessible to all family members and not hidden on the closet or lock in the cabinet. of course the suitcase itself is lock.

i think i will just bring things that i will want to have forever no matter if the item does not have any monetary value. anything that is important to me. i don't know yet what that be though. maybe pictures, but i don't have much pictures anyways, so that won't be a problem carrying those few pictures i have. i can just leave other pictures of mine which are not that memorable to me.

In this case I would be practical. I shall try to save myself and my family members. My first task would be to search a safe place.

I don't know..I think maybe sentimental. I have very few pictures of my grandparents and I have some jewelry that my grandmother left me. I think I would go for that after the kids and pets.

If you want these things it's best to keep them where you can reach them in a hurry. Thanks

I think we should all have a list of things we would take in case of evacuations...and post it on the refrigerator, so you won't have to think at that instant. You never know when a fire will take place in your home, never mind Mother Nature, I would first grab a huge canvas bag and stick the following things in them, an extra set of clothing and shoes, my makeup, my purse, family pictures, address book, Clothes for my son, and his most valuable items, and on the way out, I would grab my cat, and some cat food. Hopefully I will have time to grab all of it, but it would probably be best to prepare the bag beforehand, and keep it in place that we can grab fast. Unfortunately we are never prepared.

Hello my friend I would grab the laptop, the internet will be on my mind and how else will I get there if I leave the laptop behind, I just hope nothing like this happens because in a reality when things are crazy and you don't have time to think its hard to know what you will grab. Thank you.

It is good to take some time and give this thought. When it comes there is nothing to do. but if you have thought ahead you have more of a chance. Thanks

We don't have a safety deposit box, so I would grab my folding file with all my important papers (insurance, birth certs, etc.) in it, which I keep handy in my office.........oh and my purse! LOL Couldn't go a day away from home without my purse! My whole life in in there!

All living things first of course, after that I would grab my laptop and my photo albums, they are things that cannot ever be replaced. I have a lot of photos on my laptop and my albums have pictures from the pre-digital cameras era. If I had time to take nothing else, that will be it because aside from my daughter, husband and my animals photos are the only precious things I would hate to lose, everything else is just stuff. Oh, maybe my birth certificate folder if I had time.

If the disaster come and we have time to prepare ourselves to evacuate, I'll take important documents that irreplaceable. Even if they can be replace, they'll take time and I might need to use it immediately. If it's not, like tsunami or whatever, I'll just grab whatever I can. I probably freak out and don't have time for anything anyway. Just grab my family and run.

Ok after family and pets it would have to be a practical thing and that would be my pocketbook since it has everything but the kitchen sink in it.
