Can onions cause food to spoil faster than usual?

I usually cook fopr more than 1 day at a time and if I should complete the cooking late then the food is left on the stove covered of course until the next day. I heard that putting the oniopns in the pot can increase spoilage so better to put them in the following day. But it is more tasty to involve the onions in the cooking process. So does anybody have proof of this fact?

hi dunamis1 that is absolute nonsense, why stews are made with onions in them and they do not spoil if they are refrigerated No food will keep long out of refrigeration. so if you leave them out any food will spoil quickly.but in your refrigerator they will keep several days or more, and how long would you want to keep leftovers anyway? would not you be eating this refrigerated food? No do not leave food on the stove, that is pure folly nothing will keep long that way,get it into a refrigerator, you can get food poisoning in food left on a stove covered or not. it must be kept cool.

Well I don't know about when the onions are cooked, but onions do give off an acid that can ruin things placed by them. Like if you put onions in your vegetable drawer next to other vegetables it can cause them to spoil much faster. It is best to store onions by themselves away from other things, so there is a good chance they could affect other things they are cooked with.
