hi jaiho.( do u know that "jai ho" is the first two words of a song of the latest oscar award winner movie "slumdog millionaire"?)hahhaha.... after my post graduation i went to shillong( about 250 kms) for an interview. i was almost 25 when i visited shillong. ohhh... i was afraid of for an unknown city and eventually i reached the destination at evening time. i had to stay at hotel but i were unknown about it. after some while i got a hotel which rent was too much according to my wallet. so i searched a cheper one and i got it. at the very morning i came out for interview and in the evening i returned to my home. thats the story... hahaha....

I was nine years of age when I traveled alone via plane from Atlanta to Denver. I had never been on a plane before, peering out a side window at puffy white clouds way ... way down there, so needless to say the experience was naturally quite harrowing. But after chewing gum on the trip to relieve air pressure that made my ears pop, and meeting a nice lady whom talked to me and often times made me laugh (as well as telling me I was a BRAVE little boy), I relaxed and didn't feel so afraid anymore. As a matter of fact, I felt like a big boy and looked forward to the return flight home.

i was 15 years old when i traveled alone and it took me 2 days and three nights. I felt scared yet excited. It's really hard to travel alone especially if you were young. You don't know what's gonna happen to you while travelling. But because of it i was able to mingle different kinds of people. I met friends there but i don't have any contacts with them because we lived away and i guess but time i didn't have any communication tool like phone. But it is really an amazing experience. I won't forget it for the rest of my life.

You brought back some real old memories. I remember that day quite vividly. I was to go to Pune a nearby city about a 125 kms from my home. I was to go there and collect some important documents from a very big organization. I was 15 at that time. I was so very nervous. My first visit alone far from my home. The worst thing was I didn't even know the exact location, and then I had to meet some real serious people and convince them to hand over the documents to me. It was intimidating. I was so apprehensive to start the journey. I still remember that early morning as if it were yesterday.

Thanks for sharing your experience here my friend and keep posting. Have a great day always too!

Hi Jaiho20009, when I was 14, in the summer before entering high school, I went to England with my teacher and some other students from other schools, and we spent there two weeks, studing English. The first time I traveled without a group and a teacher was when I was eighteen, in the summer after the fourth year of high school. I spent 1 month in Dublin. That was the best ever. happy mylotting

Hello friend, Thats a good experience, away from home for two weeks. The longest day my daughter stayed away from our home is 24 hours i guess. I can't make my self at ease without seeing my kids for a day. I guess when they grow older,i can make them stay away then, for a longer time. Thanks for sharing your experience my friend and keep posting. Have a good day always too.

well, it depends on how old your child is. And I must say my mother was very worried every time I was far away. Even if she got used to my being abroad, she would still cry at the airport and call me very often. The same happened when I went to China for four months, even if I was a university student already and I hadn't been living at home for two years. Tnx for posting

hello jaiho! how are you? well, well, the very first time that i remember i travel alone is when i am on my grade 2! hehe yes, my mom lets me travel alone at that very young age from school to our house, but its just about 15-20 mins ride...of course i am nervous coz i am afraid that i might not get home...haha what my mom do that time is wait for me on road where the jeepney stops so that she ill accompany me in crossing the street...but that's just fine with me, coz after a week i found a new friend from my class who have the same way going home, and from that time we always travel together going home...actually she's also the oldest friend i have now... then, the first time i travel alone in a farther place is when i am in highschool...i travel alone from laguna-makati...hehe again, nervous and excited, but anyway i have my younger cousins with me, that mekes me even nervous coz they are on my responsibility that time... and another first time traveling alone for me is when i am about 20 yrs old...its the first time i travel by plane alone! haha i went to cagayan de oro for a vacation...experience is great but really i feel nervous coz i don't kno what to do that time...just good that i meet few people on the airport who helps & guide me along the way...

hehe... well i have no choice that time...i guess that's my mom's way of teaching me, but anyway, before she lets me travel by myself, she gives me instructions and everyday that she send me to school, she don't stop teaching me where to ride and where to alight...hehe i know that she's also nervous on the first day that she lets me travel alone...haha you know, what just i don't like that time is that, some jeepney drivers don't let us ride in their jeepney! huh! like when we wave on them to stop, they will not stop even if there's still some seats available... you are right there, i also don't like asking for directions to other people coz sometimes, they just make it more difficult for us...that's why i also don't like going alone in a new place...huh! it reminds me my experience in makati when i am still working there...i don't know how to go to the makati hall of justice, but i have to go there coz my boss & i will meet there...waaah! i ask people where to get jeepney going there...huh! and it takes me some time before i get the right direction...huh! coz some people there just give wrong directions! and i ended up walking without direction! haha just thankful that i found one good samaritan helping me to find the right way...hehe

Hello ckyera, Hello there again amiga. This is very precise description of your experiences(hehehe). You are very brave to do so,travel all alone by yourself at very young age. My daughter was 10 when she started to travel by herself from home to school. The feeling of being nervous is always there when travelling to new places, and, plus factor is,the shyness to keep asking people directions.(minsan nakakainis kasi mali ung direksyon hehehe) Thanks for sharing your experiences here my friend and have a good day always

My first big journey on my own was by coach from my house to Readng which was about 3-4 hours. I had to change coaches at London and then again at an airport so I was a bit nervouse about that, I was scared that I was going to get on the wrong coach and end hundreds of miles away from Reading. But everything went fine, I just kept double checking everything with the drivers and it was all fine.

I was 13 or 14 when I first traveled alone. I was in California and had to go to a camp in Oregon. It ended up being horrible because I had a connecting flight out of Fresno that got cancelled. I wasn't old enough to get a hotel room and the next flight out wasn't until the next day. At the time there weren't any fast food places at that airport, so I was hungry and had no place to sleep. It was super lame. I survived though and now I'm old enough to do more about it if I get stuck.

I'm much older now and can thankfully handle the situation better since I could get a hotel or a rental car. Thankfully it didn't scare me to travel alone again. I think I was rational enough to know that kind of thing doesn't happen all the time. Thanks for the response!

Hello friend, Oh,that was really scary,if i was on same situation,i guess i would probably cry. This is what i always told my kids, what to do,who to approach just in case they get lost by accidents when we are travelling. We always spent our vacation in my hometown twice a year and we travelled by bus for 7 hours with 3 to 4 stop over. So,i always advised my kids not to stay away from the bus station or never roam around. Thanks for sharing your experience my friend, you are way too young to travel by plane and i guess you are now used to it and you have build the confidence of travelling all alone, after that horrible experience. Have a good day and keep posting too

The first time that I traveled alone was when I was 21 years old. This was also the first time that I traveled on a plane. It was a two hour flight interstate to visit a friend who I had previously worked with. He had moved away with some of his friends to a different state. Ironically, I now live in that state and he lives back where we both grew up! I think that trip was what initially fueled my desire to move to where I live now. I remember at the time being very excited about flying for the first time and to be visiting a city that I did not know! It was fun to be finding my way around the town on my own after first arriving and exploring it further after I rented a car! It was a great 3 weeks, with lots of wild partying, but I went home with Chicken Pox and had to have an extra week off work!

Like other mylotters, this experience really give us more self confident and being independent too. Thanks for your response and have a good day always. Keep posting too my friend

I was 16 when I left home to go to the university. My mother travelled with me the very first time to help me in finding accommodation and making sure that I have everything I would need in preparation for school. She certainly did not pick me up afterwards when it's vacation time. I went home by myself (it's a 2 hour plane ride back home). The first time I went home, I was really excited and at the same time afraid that I would not find the airport, miss the plane or even get in the wrong flight and end up in another strange city. In the end, my excitement of seeing my folks outweighed all my fears. It turned out fine. Since then, I do not mind travelling alone. Nowadays, I don't do it anymore because we always travel as a family (except hubby who has to go occasionally for work).

Well first of all, I'm quite the loner by nature, so it's probably easier for me. But in going home and back for breaks from college, I've taken train/bus trips that last 12-15 hours and span several hundred miles. I love these trips. All the alone time with the soothing motion of the train is wonderful. I really think people could benefit from taking more time to do nothing and be alone and have some quality introspection.

Hello friend, Oh,if you are a loner,i bet travelling alone was never been a problem to you, but,i guess you really preferred to travel all alone all the time. Yah,loner think being alone is better ...for retrospect, most loner were retrospective all the time,so they love being alone. But sometimes having company won't hurt too my friend, for some changes, and interactions too. Anyway, thanks for your response and keep posting

My first travel alone was when I had to appear for many entrance tests here and there, including this city.. And it's a 38 hour journey. But I didn't feel much excited as being silent for such a long time wears on you. And I happened to be a chatter box! Now a days it doesn't even seem to be such long but first time I was so restless!

I was 23 when I travelled alone for the first time. I signed up for a language course in Italy, and I was really looking forward to the experience, but I was also incredibly nervous. I didn't know anyone in the area where I was going to live and I didn't speak much Italian, so I was wondering how I was going handle the situation. It was difficult at first, because the people from my house didn't speak English at all, but the school was great and after a while I learned to understand and speak some Italian. I also made some great friends, and I enjoyed my stay in Italy very, very much.

Hello, I remember I travel alone at the age of 15. I was so scared that might get lost. I just relied to my instinct that i will ask direction from a policemen or traffic man, not from a stranger. That was the instruction of my parents. I was too timid the whole travel and i would never spoke to any stranger. But i enjoy the panoramic views along the road.

I was always a loner and spent much time alone with my horse, or in the woods behind our house. But my first trip was across the US, from Ohio to California, when I was 12. It was also my first time on an airplane. That was long ago, before they had attendants who took care of children flying alone. I was fine and loved it all until I got to LA Airport, which looked like a small city, and had no idea where to find my uncle, who I hadn't seen in several years. Luckily he found me, but it was scary at first. There were huge presses of people, and I hadn't a clue where to go or who to ask for help.

The first time I travelled by myself was from the Philippines to Idaho in 2004. It was scary but exciting at the same time, as it was a long international flight...approximately 19 hours all in all. But luckily, the airport staff were all friendly and helpful so they guided me towards the right direction whenever I got lost, which happened A LOT.
