dear friends, my granddaughter came home from school scratching her head. told her to take a bath because i thought it is due to the heat. but when i combed her hair, a louse fell looking as big as a newly fed mosquito (except for the legs and the wings). my gosh! i got goosebumps just seeing it. she said she played with a schoolmate and then felt the itch afterwards. i went looking for nit comb to be able to get the crawling parasites and treated her hair with pyrethrins, an over the counter medicine. took me 4 days to be sure there was none left on her scalp that was living. what do you think is the best remedy to get rid of lice? do you have homemade remedies that you think is really effective? ann

Hi Ann, There is this tree called the Neem. Neem leaves are very very bitter but has got immense medicinal properties. The twigs of neem trees are used for brushing teeth. It not only gets the foul odor of the mouth but also kills germs deep inside the stomach. Neem leaves when boiled in water and then bathed can get rid of lice. Neem bath can cure even skin diseases. It is believed that even if you sit under the shade of a neem tree, the breeze is beneficial. All medicinal properties in a natural way. I am sure the tree is even found in your place but I am sorry that I don't know its other name. Hope it may help in some way. Bodhi

hi bodhi, i know the neem tree. it is called the same here. i didnt know neem tree has all these "powers". here the leaves are used to drive away mosquitoes and used like a mosquito coil but burning it. i can inform the teacher about this so she can tell the parent of the kid. it is not an expensive remedy for getting rid of lice. thank you so much. ann

Hi ann, this is not a subject I know a lot about, but what speings to mind immediately is, are the school aware of the lice situation? The school should, then make all parents aware. Mike.

Yes, that crossed my mind too. If the school does not know and doesn't do a check then sending her back could cause a reinfestation of these nasty little critters. I would also be calling all the parents of her friends to let them know...just in case.

hi mike and sid, her mom went to the school the next day to report it to her teacher. i think the teacher requested the parent of the kid to talk with her. i am sure the parents of the kid already knows about it, but probably treating it is just not a priority. well see in the following days. ann
