Would you point out a money mistake?

I wouldn't and did not today! I went to the recycling center this morning to recycle steel cans. Steel cans go for a half a cent a pound. When I went to the drive up window for my cash I was only expecting $.81. Instead I was giving $61.00! Apparently the piece of paper I handed to the woman at the recycling center thought I had brought in aluminum cans to recycle! The guy who wieghed the steel cans marked on a piece of paper I had brought in aluminum cans! So it was their fault and not mine! So I ddn't bother to go back and say they made a mistake! I look at it this way:Finders keepers! So what would you do?

I do not think I would have pointed it out either just because I could truly use the extra money. I have pointed it out about mistakes before though. I do not think they will truly miss out on anything. I hope you can use the money wisely.

I make a discussion out of something that happens to me like must people do and I get critized for it! Geez! I can't win!

Imagine, admitting to being a thief gets you treated like one.

I work in a very busy convenience store. It is so easy to make mistakes when rapidly handling cash and what with all the distractions. I am so so so grateful to all the honest customers that hand me back the extra 10.00 that I may hand them because I am trying to go too fast. How many times I've taken from my pocket and put in the cash at the end of the nite just knowing i've made a dumb mistake. Likewise, I'm sure those same customers are grateful that I've handed them the correct change for a 50.00 when they think they've given me a 20.00 or when they hand me new bills that are stuck together. 6 1.00 is huge. Shame on you. How do you sleep at nite?

yep...He gets blatantly right to the point.
I think he knows what he is saying. It IS stealing. The finders keeper rule only applies when you actually "find" something and have no idea who the owner is. If someone gives you wrong change and you know it and decide to keep it anyway....it is stealing.

It's your fault your a thief! Justify yourself all you want, but NEVER complain when someone robs you because, by your own sick logic, it was YOUR fault you were robbed.

In other cases,I would have pointed out the mistake and returned the money. But this type of recycling business holds more margin and they pay us only a little compared to their earnings. So,I would have done what you have done,in this case. But in a shop,I will be returning the money back.Cheers!

Even though I could really use the extra money, I would have gone back and told them because even though it was his mistake, later on when they do their audit and it comes out that they gave away $61 instead of 81 cents guess who's going to have to replace the $60.19? It'll either come out of that guys paycheck, or the cashiers.
Plus because I am a true believer in the fact that every thing we do good or bad comes back to us someway or somehow, and who knows if I were to return that money then I might have a bigger reward in the near future.
Now it would be different if I were walking along the sidewalk and saw a 50 dollar bill. Then I would consider it finders keepers (unless I saw the person drop it then I'd have to say "excuse me you dropped this") but if I didn't see anybody drop it, and it was just lying there well,.. there must be a reason I was the one that found it.

I have done this before when I have been giving the wrong change or another time when the recycling center made another mistake! I will always look at it as Finders Keepers Losers Weepers!

i would tell them about the mistake. it would be a pity for him to lose that way. i always believe in karma. what is a few cents gain and a million dollars loss one day? sometimes karma works in other unfortunate ways. i don't like something like that to happen to me in the future. i have always taught my children to be honest in all their dealings with people as i religiously practice it. honesty is still the best policy for me. relatively, i separated ways with someone because he was dishonest. i abhor dishonesty.

Ah, I see. So if you were working as a cashier in a store and I came to your register to buy something and say you've had a long, rough day and accidentally give me $50 worth to much change, then I should keep it, right? Of course you realize that at the end of your shift, when your drawer is counted up and shows that it is $50 short, you will either have to replace the money from your own pocket or most likely be fired? But, hey, that's okay! Why should I care if you lose your job? "Losers weepers and finders keepers", right?

I don't usually notice a mistake until when I get home or I have left the shop. If I was given change and I had been given less change than I should have then I would say something but I usually don't know the exact price when I go to the counter to pay.
