What's for Breakfast today?

Aside from normally cooked rice, combining with foods like sunny-side-up egg or hotdog or bacon or any easy to cook food, Filipinos also have "lugaw" (rice porridge) or "arroz caldo", "champorado" (rice cooked like lugaw, mixed with chocolate or "tablya") combined with milk, sugar and bread at the side. This time, I am having Chicken Arroz Caldo from a pouch. This is instant, no-cook, so I just poured the contents of the pouch to a cup and added hot water to cook it. Yummy!!! So what do you have for breakfast today? Is this you favorite to eat for breakfast? What do you usually have for breakfast in your place, or do you have any option or anything you want to eat today?

Hello bro. For breakfast, normally I can make do with just a bread or a cup of coffee or tea. I think scrambled eggs might be good too; or half-boiled one. Rice porridge sounds like a delicious option as well. I know that breakfast is a very important start of the day, even if we have been working nights non-stop. Hmmmmm.. like an energy instant starter or something to get us going. What did you have today then?

yes zed, something heavy in the morning is really a good start for any one because we really need energy for the day's work. but sometimes we just don't think about ourselves and we just work with only coffee in the morning. today, like i have said, i have rice porridge, very common breakfast in our place. how about you today, what have you for breakfast?

We usually do not eat actual breakfast because we work nights. We mainly eat lunch or dinner. We eat past noon but before actual supper time. Our schedule is all messed up. We did have french toast today though.

hi neildc well I am in a retirement center and for breakfast we have our choice of dry cereals or oatmean, then a pancake or french toast with bacon,or sausage, or eggs.once in a while we have hash browns with our scrambled eggs and I love that too. when I get a chance to eat breakfast out I always order eggs over easy, hash browns, rye toast and good hot coffee. I have a filipino lady for a tablemate, she has gout so cannot eat meat of any kind, but she sure does love her rice. As I understand it rice for you is a lot like our potatoes that we have most meals here in the US. I am so glad that we can all exchange things here at mylot, we learn from each other and that is really fun to me. Rice cooked with chocolate, oh that sounds really delicious, I love chocolate so much.

I love chicken arroz caldo too but I can only eat that during merienda time. For breakfast I only eat a toast of wholewheat bread and fruit like banana, or papaya or mango. During holidays, I do prepare a heavier breakfast because I have plenty of time to cook but on ordinary day I do have to rush every thing so I won't be late for work.

oh, i love those "kakanin", those sweet delicacies like "suman", "bibingka" and "puto". now you made me miss my grandma again, who was an expert with those sweets. i remember they told me that i actually grew-up taking time on the table while "lola" prepares them. lol

My husband and I enjoyed the native "suman" and sweet mangoes we bought from the market after we had our morning jogging. We do love "kakanin" but we make sure it is from our "suki".

Hi Neil, Here in the UK, we don't have rice, the fully English breakfast consit of toast, eggs, bacon tomatos mushrooms, sausages and some people may add bake beans and to wash down with a nice cup of coffee or tea. Some people just have cereal and toast with marmalade or jam but I only have a bowl cereal andtwo mugs of coffee, I can't eat a lot. Hugs. Tamara

Hello Neil, You made me hungry and crave for that champorado my friend. My kids loves it very much. Aside from champorado,my kids like instant oats"quaker oats" topped with mango(ripe). But for me,i don't take breakfast everyday. I usually start my meal by mid-snack before lunch, and,a cup of coffee will do for me

hi jaiho. i really don't eat breakfast everyday, that's a cup of coffee only. but sometimes, i really can't help it specially when i came from a drinking session the night before. our kids loves champorado very much, specially if the chocolate (tablea) came from the southern part of cebu, the place of my wife. i also love this, specially if there is dried fish on the side. yummy.

champorado with dried fish?...i haven't tried it my dear. i would like to try it someday if i can remember. Yah,tablea...i also use that kind of chocolate instead of cocoa. My kids doesn't like cocoa,so,if i run out of tablea...they would prefer to use Milo or Hershey.

we also use milo if we have no tablea, and that is always available in a single serving pack. you should try it with dried fish, just like "dinuguan at puto"

My mom likes to eat bread in the morning, but if I had my way it would be fried rice paired with anything easy to cook from the fridge. It can also be leftovers from last nights' dinner. I am not too happy with bread for breakfast, but say nothing about it because its something that my mom likes. Its too much to ask, but one more dish that I would like to have for breakfast is guinataang halo-halo. It is so filling with all the bananas, yams, glutinous rice balls and sago. This post of yours gives me an idea to try to go out early tomorrow morning and go to the market to find the ingredients!

This morning for breakfast I had a bowl of grits. I made a bowl of oatmeal for my son. I don't think I've ever eaten rice for breakfast before. If I have then it has been a long time and I don't remember. If we eat rice it is usually with our dinner in the evening. We eat different things each morning.

I am usually in a hurry to go to the office during mornings so I don't really eat my breakfast at home unless its weekend and I don't have anywhere to go to. My MIL would pack some bread in my lunch pack for me to bring to the office to eat. It would be nice to be able to eat a hearty breakfast once in a while

Well, seeing as I'm reading this at 5:00 a.m., I have not yet had breakfast. I'm awake now because it's quite normal for me to wake up several times throughout the night. But, once I do wake up enough to get breakfast, I'll probably have some cereal. I just bought a box of Special K with blueberries and it tastes awesome, as well as being very healthy. I use soy milk (which is kinda weird since it's not milk at all) to make it a very healthy meal. I'll probably drink some orange juice with it. Or, I might go all the way and cook some ham and eggs. I like my eggs scrambled or easy-over instead of sunny side up. I like the idea of instant anything. Not having to cook is always good! Hmmm, now that I'm thinking about it, we have some sweet and sour chicken in the refrigerator that I might just heat up for breakfast. I'm not always a traditional breakfast eater. I was thinking of making some rice to go with the chicken. I might just do that! I hope all is well with you and your family. I'm just trying to stay warm (we're under a freeze warning until 9:00 a.m.) and waiting for the mailman to bring me some good news (yeah, still waiting ).

hi marti. i posted this one yesterday when i was still in the office, having a good connection all day. but when i went out and i am at home, there was no connection with my phone network provider and until today. so i was not able to come back to you, 21 hours ago. now i have the connection again in the office, but still nothing with my phone, so i better hurry responding to everyone until 5pm, when it is almost 3pm now. sad you know, i am not also a traditional breakfast eater. but the kids should be, as they are going to school, and they should have extra power in school. of course, the little ones, like zayzay also eats with his mom, but a little later, maybe at about 9 or 10, when the little angel wakes up. but when it's weekend, we all eat together, and sometimes, i took the driver's seat in the kitchen. so far, so good. everyone is fine over here. i hope you are also fine besides being cold out there. i wonder what happened to that mailman, which keeps my dear friend always waiting?

hello neilc, Sorry for the late reply to this discussion. some how i felt that i needed to sleep because of some lack of sleep syndrome for two days, meaning insomnia. well, this morning i had only milk-fish and shrimp. then i also ate some pandesal or bun, in here pandesal is almost any hour of the day and not just in the morning.i missed having that kind of breakfast, were just in a bit loose pennies.

I am very rice-dependent so anything-plus-rice is ideal for me. I also can't eat breakfast without hot chocolate or hot milk because I grew up having that and I can't drop that. Even though sometimes I wake up at around 11am, I would still have a cup of hot chocolate or milk just to complete my breakfast. Even though I would still be eating again at 12 noon for lunch..hehe..As for what I had today, it was meatballs and rice (with ketchup) and my favorite cup of chocolate drink. Yum yum!

it sounds to me that you are a little healthier than any other, as you can't live without your chocolate milk. you know, if i will really have to have my favorite breakfast, it will also by anything but with rice. and i guess you are really a healthy person as you don't skip a meal, even if you had just taken the last meal in an hour?

I eat rice porridge and a bottle of milk everyday. But I do not rice porridge very much. So sometime, I also eat bread . And I do not know what a heavy breakfast is really like. As I don't like get up early, it always leave me little time to cook the breakfast. So I have to eat the breakfast cooked by my mother. She never changes the content for breakfast. Therefore, I east rice porridge most of the time.

Hi neildc! I didn't have much of a breakfast this morning because I woke up late and I was in a hurry to get to church. I just had a slice of bread and ran out the door. I know that sounds terrible but at least I survived until I got home. Most of the time when I eat breakfast, I have a scrambled egg, a slice of bread (my toaster quit working on me several months ago), 1/2 of a grapefruit, and a glass of water. Sometimes I will eat Raisin Bran with milk instead of a scrambled egg. In the summer, I will have 1/4 of a cantaloupe instead of grapefruit. Sometimes I will eat an apple as my fruit. Kathy.

I hate to admit this but I sleep late of the morning. It's because I've always been a night owl and I have trouble sleeping at night, anyway. Most of the time, I don't get up in time for breakfast. When I do get up earlier, I eat a light breakfast, though. Kathy.
