Within the last 3 months or so, my computer has developed a sporadic problem with my sound. My sound will be working perfectly & half way through whatever I'm listening to, it just goes out. OR I won't have any sound & half way through...BOOM...the sound is back. It seems it started after I installed Microsoft's SilverScreen so I could watch Netflix movies on my computer. I went to lunch with a friend yesterday & she said she was having the same problem, except she hasn't installed SilverScreen on her computer. Has this happened to you or anybody you know??? Do you know any way around this problem??? Oh yes, I forgot, I'm using XP.

There might be many chances behind it. The issues may be involved in Bad Audio drivers or software settings, Bad hardware or audio card and speaker related issues. First of all check your speakers whether they are absolutely ok and properly connected. Secondly check at the below right corner, whether you can see volume icon or not, if it is there check whether the sliders are up and full. If you can not see the volume icon then it can be activated from control panel- sound audio devices - place volume icon in the taskbar to be checked. If every slider is full and up you need to check up the device manager to see whether there are any conflicts of the audio drivers. If there are any yellow marks are there you are facing some conflicts thereyou need to install the audio drivers for you sound card again. Check for the latest drivers in the web and reinstall them. If reinstalling audio drivers does not solve problem, it may be due to some hardware issues like your onboard audio card or sound card is defective.

Thank you sooo much for all the advice. I can see the sound icon & the sliders are set at full blast. Maybe I just need to start upgrading the computer I have as I can save up the money instead of buying a new computer. I really don't want to step up to Vista or 7. I like XP!!!

Oh my! Are there ghosts in your computer, Marissa????????????? Kidding. I think there might be a problem with the sound-card. Last time, I have had the same problem. I went to fix it but I don't know if this works for you or not. I re-install back everything. If I can still remember, I went to Control Panel, look for the part where there's a tab on hardware or something and I went to test for audio. They said the sounds are working properly. So I just re-install back everything, re-boot, and the thing went well after that. But if yours are still the same, it's best to get a professional technical help. What brand is your computer? Is it still under warranty? Get it fixed.. Or... you might have a problem with the speakers. Detach and attach them back. Might work after that. Or change to new speakers. Hope this helps..

Sounds as though you have another program interrupting it. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it again? And try to install it from a different site if that is possible. I used to get a popup saying that my sound program was being used so it couldn't do what I wanted it to sometimes after uninstalling and reinstalling it worked alot better. Also best to run you cookie cleaner before you use it also..I use Advanced System Care for Free..and it works good.

Could it be a short in your speakers or could it be a glitch in the SilverScreen program? Actually, I haven't heard of SilverScreen and never watch movies on my computer. Would rather lay down and watch a movie where I can stretch out. This is what old people do..lol

I sure wish I could help you with your sound problem. It sounds to me like an audio problem. Have you checked your speakers to make sure they are properly connected? That may be an issue of the fade in and out.

Do you happen to have another set of headphones or speaker you could test on your comp? Before you start messing around with the drivers and all that you should see if a newer set of speakers or headphones works better...especially with headphone the cords get moved around and bent a LOT and very often they will develope a short in the wires because of being bent too much and the wires inside get broken.... I go through headphone almost as often as socks...of course thats partly because i dont use very expensive ones but i have and they last a bit longer but not much.... my speakers themselves once i have them hooled up i tape the wires down so they dont move around a lot... Thats a place to start...if you use a new set of speakers or headphones and it still does it then try uninstalling the program that caused it to start...see if it stops after the program is uninstalled....if it doesnt stop then it wasnt that program so you can go ahead and reinstall it... The next step would be to go to windows help and use the troubleshooting tool for your speakers....just type in speakers in windows help and you will find troubleshooting.
