Do you know the meaning of don't?

Apparently my husband doesn't! LOL He had to go to work yesterday, but was able to get off early. He wanted to be able to get home early enough so that I could make my appointment at the DMV. He let me know he was on his way. I didn't want him to rush on my account so I told him don't speed. Twice! A few minutes later he called me again. I knew it couldn't be good. I thought the worst and assumed he was involved in an accident. Well, it wasn't that, but he did get pulled over...for none other than speeding! Hmm, what did I tell him only moments before? I told him DON'T speed! And here he got a ticket for speeding! LOL Now we have to pay his fine in about a month. We think the officer would have let it slide had my husband had the registration or the title on him seeing as we just got the vehicle 2 days before that. Unfortunately both were at home. The title was in my purse. But the officer told him that if we go down to the DMV right away that they will remove the violation for not having the registration. What's funny is that was the reason my husband was speeding in the first place. So that I wouldn't miss my appointment at the DMV to get it registered! LOL Once he got home I took off. I knew I was going to be late so I didn't worry about getting there on time. I even stopped off to get fuel. I was surprised when I got to the DMV. I was only 20 minutes late. After getting my ticket stub from the counter I only had to wait a few minutes (about 5 minutes, I think). And it only took maybe 3 or 4 before I was done and out of there! The Pathfinder is officially mine now. Oh yeah, and my husband's too, of course. LOL Yea! Don't worry, I made sure to put the registration is in the glove where it belongs! LOL So, do you know the meaning of don't? Has someone ever told you not to do something and you did it anyway? Or have you ever told someone not to do something and they didn't listen to you? Where there any consequences because of it?

I know.. in fact, I have been told many times never to fall in love with so and so before, and I did. I guess I was pretty sucked in by love or should I say puppy love, and I ended up being miserable, lol... If only your husband listened to you, lol...but it's like that. My mom could nag me but I wouldn't listen, and I'll get a ticket for parking carelessly.

You're lucky it was just that. I have been telling my husband not to drink and drive for 15 years but every week he goes golfing and he HAS to drink for some stupid reason. I can't figure out why he hasn't gotten caught. One of these days something bad is going to happen and my kids will be left without a father who could be in jail not bringing us an income. He just got a lecture from a visiting relative (because spouses are never right, you know). Lets just hope it sinks in THIS time. (I hit a button and my punctuation has turned into french characters, thats why Im not using apostrophes or questions marks.) I think men think they are invincible and that nothing will happen to them. It drives me crazy.

Ha! This would fit right in with my discussion about saying "I told you so!" Did you tell him "I told you so?" or did you caution him in the first place about a ticket? Telling me "don't" or "you can't" is a sure way to get me to do something. I know it sound juvenile but I'm a very rebellious sort and telling me that is a challenge. I've learned the hard way several times! It's amazing how smart my parents got as I grew older.

Hey dragon. Nope, I sure didn't! I didn't dare! LOL There are just some times when it shouldn't be said. And this was one of them. I didn't really caution him either, other than saying not to speed. I don't think it would have done any good though. He probably just would have sped faster which would have resulted in a bigger fine! LOL You, rebellious? Who would have thunk it? LOL Happy mylotting!

When we still had our apartment my son had the habit of putting something in the oven to bake, then getting on the net, and plumb forgetting the stove. So I would say, Robbie dont forget you have a pizza in the oven. I would get back, yeah, sure, Im busy, dont bug me. Okay so I go sit down at my computer, then I smell a faint odor but I kept on mylotting, then it dawned on me,oh myG go look something is burning. So I dashed into the kitchen and opened the oven door. there was a black object about the size of a large frisbee smoking away like mad, I grabbed a kitchen glove and got it out. sit it on the pizza box. then went and told my son to come look at his pizza. Yeah yeah, I am busy. okay have it your way. grumbling he to the kitchen. came back laughing and holding the Frisbee. yuck he said, I am going to have to start over. Well I said, maybe next time you might want to set your alarm clock so you will not forget the Fris--I mean pizza again.

Talk about irony. Remember when the ban on cell phones while driving went in? I heard a story on the radio that reminded me of something similar. The police were actively looking for violators and some man's wife called him and told him to watch out. He was driving at the time, picked up and the police saw him and got a ticket. And I'm sure I've done that many times, but I just can't remember a story right now...

I know! It's very ironic indeed! LOL I can't help but feel partly responsible for the ticket, so I can't get too upset over it. LOL Yep, I sure do. I think I did the same thing after it went into effect. Fortunately my husband didn't get caught. But then again he was using the 2 way radio feature on his cell phone which is easier to conceal than having the cell phone directly up to his ear. I don't think they enforce this law very well now. Or no one seems to care. Because I see a lot of people still using their cell phones while they are driving. Strange. What's the point of having a law if it isn't going to be enforced?

LOL. What an interesting encounter! The officer should have waived the fine! Personally, I do think that many people do not understand the meaning of don't, me included. Perhaps it was the rebellious part in us. The more we are told NOT TO do, the more we are more determined TO DO. Perhaps we may all find this familiar. "DON'T EAT FRIED STUFFS", "DO MORE EXERCISE". We tend to do the opposite.

Sigh... before the car is officially yours, your husband already got booked for it? ha ha ha ha ha... you will be laughing about this later when you think about it! Well, there are many times when I tell people to don't do something, they will go right out and just do it! It is frustrating at times. So far, nothing of grave consequence have happened. And I am praying that it will remain status quo.

Actually I was laughing about it when he got home that day. Kind of shaking my head, but laughing about it just the same. LOL The irony of it all was just too much not to laugh at the situation.

ha ha ha ha ha... good that you are able to see the lighter side of things. For me, I would have cussed and cursed for a few days to have to part with hard-earned money for speeding. Say... what is the fine amount for speeding anyways?

lol =D Isn't that just like doing the forbidden?? It's human nature i guess.. When we were kids, parents tend to tell us, dont do this or that, but have we ever listened to them all the time?? NO.. haha =D There will always be the mindset in us, that we should be able to get away with it, by not following what they say.. lol =D As such, when we are adults, it's time for us to make decisions instead, and so, what's advice to us?? hehe ^_^ IN this case here, he's just unlucky to be caught for speeding, and lucky enough not to be involved in an accident.. hehe

It sure is! LOL What do you mean? I always listened to my parents! It could have been worse. It could have been the other way around. And then he'd really be unlucky. I'd much rather it work out the way it did, even if it was a little costly. Happy mylotting!

Congrats on the Pathfinder and only being 20 minutes late. I haven't had a similar issue. Usually hubby and I have issues with forgetfulness. At least your hubby was trying to make sure you were on time. I bet he wishes he had listened!

These husbands don’t like to listen to the word don’t...Come to think of it, they just don’t like to listen at all! I remember a few years ago we were heading to an annual fair. It is usually very popular and a lot of people go,so parking is always a bit of an issue. We headed down there and, as we were looking for a parking spot, a lady who lived nearby approached us and told us that if we drove up the road a bit to the local shopping mall we would find plenty of car parks there because not too many people knew about it. I thanked her and directed my husband to the shopping mall but would he listen when I said ‘drive straight ahead, don’t turn right’? No he didn’t and he turned right in a ‘no right turn’ area and guess who was driving behind us? That’s right, the Police! So his selective hearing cost us $150 on top of an expensive day out! I could have killed him!

You're right Paula, they don't like to listen at all. They are worse than kids sometimes! LOL So, did your husband learn his lesson after such an experience? I'm sure my husband didn't, but I'm afraid to test it to find out. I wouldn't want him getting another ticket, after all! LOL Happy mylotting!

He did learn to be more careful on the road but as far as the listening skills...They still leave a lot to be desired!

Oh, it happens all of the time, my husband does not listen the people I work with, the clients, do not listen. Of course there are consequences, but they keep on doing it. I am sure I am never guilty (NOT!) Human nature, I suppose.

I have had to teach my husband the meaning of "don't" a few times. LOL Fortunately, as you have, I have set a good example myself, and he's understood that I'm doing what I'm doing because I know what I'm doing, not just because i want to nag him. This was a great story, and I got a chuckle out of it. Thank you!!!

Hello, I guess you weren't looking for a response, sacmon. Rather, just an avenue to whinge abit, eh? LOL. I guess men sometimes like to defy what they have been told. The more you tell them NOT to do something, the more they will have a go at it. LOL. BTW, yes, I experience that alot from people around me too. And I'd like to say I understand the meaning of DON'T myself but it's probably fairer for someone else to judge. Cheers!

Hehehe.. You hubby is stubborn but in a sweet way. At least he is more concerned of you, not getting late to your appointment more than anything less. There are people who are really stubborn. Especially those who doesn't like being told what to do. Kids are stubborn too, but simply because they are still kids. As for me, good thing I know and understand the word "don't or no". I have never let myself get in trouble because I didn't followed what I have been told. Sure there were experiences I was in trouble but it's purely a mistake. Ciao!
