Good morning, maykaklc...yes, my favourite dessert is baklava..I use phyllo pastry in a lot of baking! Have you tried "salmon en croute"...but I am a dismal failure when it comes to trying to make PHYLLO! An effort best left to the GREEK professionals! The traditional way, of which , I think you are speaking, the sweetener is honey..and really NOT that bad for you, in moderation! Welcome to myLOT...enjoy your journey here, you will meet MANY wonderful people! Cheers!

phyllo pastry is the best idea on baking , but not all the cooking. if you are not a good on making phyllo, why not buy it from the shop. there is a lot ready make pastry , what you need to do is just roll it and out your ingredients inside . try it and let me know .

Morning, maykaklc..I guess you missed, that I said, I use phyllo, a lot, and many times for NOT making dessert. I do buy it, as the making process is long and complicated. Have a great day!

I normally have my baklava with black coffee. The sweetness of baklava and the bitterness of the coffee blends perfectly well. The nutty component of the pastry brings beautiful texture that plays in your mouth every bite. Also, the filo pastry melts rather well when it was soaked with coffee inside your mouth. I have not tried having baklava with pepper mint tea but sounds enticing to the palate so I may have to try that soon. Also, I think green tea will be perfect for it too, since that variety of tea is known to be a great partner with sweet desserts.
