My depression

I have been dealing with depression for over twenty years.I think I have tried every antidepressant out there.I never seemed able to shake it off,it has effected everything in my life. Until now I thought I would share my good fortune in the hopes that it may help others.I am sure you have seen the television commercials advertising a medication called abilify. It is said that it works well in conjunction with your normal antidepressant. I can tell you from my experience that this is true.I have been taking abilify with my regular antidepressant for around 3 months now.I felt better almost immediately and have felt better since.I do still have my bad times, but they seem to be normal like others experience them. I have money troubles and family issue like everyone else, now I am better able to deal with them.I don't spend all my time in bed,I am sleeping better then I have in years and I don't feel like I have a dark cloud following me anymore.I know this might not be the answer for everyone but I am hoping my story can help someone.

Jasmine- Thanks so much for sharing your story, and having the courage to do so. I've heard of that medication and the only thing that I've been reading on about it is the possible night walking with no memory that some have experienced. Hopefully with physician monitoring this will occur less frequently for some patients. I myself am suffering a bought of anxiety. It came on with all of the stress of being stalked, plus my normal household duties along with writing my thesis. So, I went in to my doctor and asked for something to help me get through this period. I take medication as well as see a therapist once a month. I do agree with others who have stated meditation, exercise, and sleep as a way to help. I have always done meditation and exercise is a daily part of our life. The medication and counselor simply help to keep things regular so that I can move forward in my daily life. Doesn't mean though that things are always sunny and perfect. Every one of us will continue to have those lows and anxious moments in our life. It's how we are able to handle them and talk about them that helps. I wish you the best of luck and have a wonderful week. Namaste-Anora

You're right, that was very insensitive, and very inaccurate. You made quite the judgement of me without even asking questions. I have studied Eastern medicines and thoughts for quite some time now. Yes, I was a bit late starting but I don't consider Oz land the quintessential point of all Eastern thought. When I study Eastern non-invasive therapy I turn to India and China. They have been practicing such techniques for much longer then the British have who sent all the convicts and traitors to found and take over the poor aboriginial tribes of Australia. Namaste-Anora

'Like others experience them'. Who are these 'others'? I have had depression all of my life and in 2006 came down of a Paxil high that sent me into the worst depression I have ever been in. I have tried all kinds of anti-depressants and ,yes, Abilify was one I tried in unison with others. I hope you have read all the history on Abilify because some of it is pretty scarey. I didn't know Paxil would do me the way it did. I hope your story does help some people.

CE- I took her to just be sharing her story about what worked, and that she was asking us to share what worked for us. Everyone is different, and that is why it is so importanat as you said to research as well as speak with your doctor and do what is right for you. Namaste-Anora

depression is something that is different for everyone i guess. im on my second type of antidepressant now and its working for me. i believe though, that its not just medication that you need to help you through a time like this. some people think you just have to change your attitude but its not that simple. i am currently fighting my depression but its not easy. im in the middle of my final exams, im on my second lot of meds, im up to my fifth counsellor and second psychologist. but a regular combination of all of these, with healthy diet and exercise and being able to talk to at least one of my friends about my experience has been what has helped me through. everyone's different though. it depends on your circumstances, your preferances, what and who you are comfortable with. there is something out there for everyone. somedays its hard to push on and give it another go but you've got to try. if not for yourself then for the others around you. i havent heard of this medication but if it has the ability to help others fight their demons, i'm all for it. i don't believe anyone should ever have to live with this kind of pain. and i envy those who dont know what its like.

I've been on effexor for 6 months and I feel kinda like I'm on auto pilot, with dips some lower than others. I have no ups at all. Does this abilify give u ups. I mean are u able to feel happiness? I'd love to try it if so , next doctor visit I'll ask. I'm happy for u, it's so hard to find the right med. Liz

I am on trazadone with the abilify.I can't say I am happy go lucky now I have never been that.I just feel pretty good, not depressed at all. Before abilify it seemed to drain me just to talk,I didn't have any desire to even speak to anyone, that isn't a problem at all anymore.I didn't do much on mylot either because I again didn't have anything to say that I wanted to type about.Everything I did was only what I absolutely had to and sometimes not even that. I hope you find the right medicine for you or the right combination, let me know how you make out at the doctors. Jazz

i don't think my depression will be cured by medicine. only a real solution to my problem will be the answer i think. i don't want to depend on medicines. specially my depression is not biological in nature or cause but by some disappointments in life. i have to find solutions to my problem and that will be the cure to my depression.

Thanks for sharing this. I never thought depression is really that bad that you have to take some medications for it. All this time having a positive outlook in life and being very optimistic is one sure way to get out of depression.

True depression is not something you can just shake off.Nor can you just have a positive outlook and make it go away.It is crippling to those of us who have it.I think that you have to have it to understand it,however it is a medical illness and is not easily treated. It also doesn't go away, it is a lifelong struggle that never ends completely. There are many reasons for depression to begin for most it started in childhood. Some however like my sister have had adult life experiences knock her down so many times that this time she hasn't gotten back up.She was always happy go lucky and very positive. Now at 55 she spends more time in bed then I ever did even at my worst depressive moments.I have been battling depression for as long as I can remember. As a child I was always told to stop being so miserable,as a teen I was told it is just teenage crap,as an adult it was several years before I had a counselor tell me it was depression. Many years later I was still feeling like a black cloud was following me around, never wanting to talk always wanting to be by myself. Now I am on this abilify and I finally feel some relief.I am talking more and having some fun for a change.

I guess mylot and your current medication helped you to somehow control your depression. You mentioned about your sister being depressed, is depression somehow related to traumas?

I also wouldnt be afraid to contemplate electroshock treatments. They are alot less invasive then they used to be and will work often when medications fail. Kitty dukakis wrote a book about it called Shock. It talks alot about her experiences and also the science behind electroshock. It sounds a little drastic, but you might find that it works for you.

I'm glad that you were able to find something that works for you. It can be a tough road ahead finding the right medication to treat anxiety or depression. A lot of people give up because they think that nothing can help them. Hopefully your discussion will help others.

hey i have never heard about this treatment but may be it is helpfull. but according to me jasmine depression is something we ownself is responsible and there is also the the major participation from external environment as well. but i would say that to cure properly the depression part there collective effort is required. also one should we very well aware about the reasion of the depression. i was also in the depression when i was in the perticuler situation and was with among with some people. so i found my own solution to get rid with that situation and the people. yes it is true every time you cant take step like go away with the people those are causing depression for you in that case the proper understanding and collective effort by the surrounding people is required. if any one feel there is problem with them in that case the person who is cursing ownself is fool. depression is something which is almost created by the external fectors and action and reaction. in that case more patience is required and more selfwork on mind is compelsory.

Hi jasmine. Thanks for sharing your story here. I am sure that it will help our readers here who are also experiencing the same depression you had. I haven't heard of this medication though. I was diagnosed with depression more than two years ago. I was taking medication but I decided to stop it after just six months. Personally, I believe that depression has something to do with our personal issues in life. Solving or overcoming them needs a strong faith and mental abilities to control our ways of thinking as well as our ways of life. That includes the way we look at life and approach every situation we are in. I started to confront issues that I need to solve. It was so hard at the start because there are also lots of people who are contributory to my depression. I have learned that sometimes we have to stay away from people and things that gives us negative perception about life. I was into belief that I can live without them and be happy surrounded with just the beautiful things and people in my daily life. That is my belief until now. I am doing very well. I wish you all the best jasmine. Thanks again for this post.

If you believe or assume it that thought coming from outside and you can control it to do avoid it or to do things better for your nature/hobbies or to be more attention on good things. You should not to be think about past or bad experienced. Depression is a mental problems so it could be right that resolve it by mental effort. Human is a mental being so everyone can do it one day if he persue it. Alway to think about positive/light. To be present of mind is the best solution for every mental problems like depression, anxiety etc.
