It was so stupid, I don't know how they got on the floor but I felt something under my food and there were my glasses! Being a Sunday, I wasn't sure that I could find a place to fix them but Walmart has an optical place so I headed there. Luckily, I had lasik a few years ago and can see well enough to drive. I'm only slightly nearsighted now. So I go into Walmart and the lady takes my glasses into the back and returns a few minutes later--they're fixed! I ask how much I owe her and she says NOTHING!! Wow, I was so happy! What a nice thing for Walmart and that employee to do, it really made my day. Has anything nice happened to you lately that could have been disastrous?

not that i can recall. but since you mentioned walmart, thats where i got my glasses and i couldnt wear them. they made me have terrible dizzy spells and almost go blind when i removed them. but i didnt find out that i could have had them replaced until 30 days after. then i thought it was still to late so they are still in a drawer. useless. i wonder if they'd charge me more now?

You can always try to explain and see if they charge you. Do your glasses have bifocals? When I first got bifocals I got dizzy for the first couple of days but after that my body adjusted. Maybe you need to try them for a few days. Aside from that, go back to your optometrist or ophthalmologist and tell them the problem. Zenni Optical is also a good cost-reducing option. They are made in China but only cost about $8 with the frames! If they don't fit exactly right, go to an optical store and get them adjusted but either way you spend less than $25 on a pair.

You might have got the wrong prescription. I had the same problem, but I got someone to measure my old glasses prescription and put in new lenses with the old prescription. The new prescription made me dizzy and nauseous after about an hour. I was ok until I put those glasses on, no way I could wear them. Now that I look back there must have been something wrong with the prescription or the lense grinding. You can just pay for the lenses if you still like the frames, they should be able to put them in the old frames for you as they are essentially still new. A note about Zenni optical, you need your PD (Pupiliary Distance) which is normally not on your prescription, you can measure this yourself or better to get your optometrist to do this when he/she checks your eyes.

I've broke my glasses before and have found out that I can go to the neighborhood save a lot or somewhere else where they have cheap sunglasses, I match the lenses to the sunglasses and when I find a pair that match up, I buy the cheap sunglasses, pop the lens out with a screwdriver and hammer when I get home, place the prescription lens in the frame and my problem is solved!

Thanks Dragon, I have found out that save a lot has $1.00 sunglasses, dollar general and family dollar have less of a selection and are $6.00 and up.... Whatever you do don't ever use superglue! (it never comes off of the lenses if you get it on them!)

oh my.. i too wear glasses and it really is hard without them, especially for you and me that spends a good deal in front of the computer... It's nice when you get an unexpected blessing. Yes, I actually left my wallet in a fast food chain, fortunately a good soul called me and pointed to my wallet. I was so blessed.

hi dragon 54u yes a year or so ago I was in Sears store when my wristwatch strap broke completely in two. I shuddered thinking oh my gosh this will cost me, but I had bought a new watch band that same day so I stopped by the watch repair place in sears and showed him the new band. In ten minutes he had the new band in place. I dug out my billfold to pay him and he shook his head. I do not charge for putting one of our bands on your watch miss. have a nice day, and yes i did have a very nice day.

Things like that really make our day, don't they? I'm sure they could charge us under some pretext but I'm glad there are still people like that. I would not have expected it from Walmart at all. I love it when we get nice surprises like that!

You are so lucky to get them fixed. Usually by the time I break mine they are so old I need new ones anyways. That reminds me I need to get my eyes checked and get some new glasses. I think this time I might try ordering some online apparently if you get the right place I think they come from Hong Kong you can get a really cheap pair and the people I have talked to say there is nothing wrong with them the quality is quite good. Actually I think most of the glasses you buy are overpriced. No way they should cost under dollars for such a small item. I know they are custom ground for the lenses but that is done by machine. I wish I could afford Lasik as I am myopic and feel I am a good candidate for it. Then I would not need glasses for driving but certainly would need a pair for reading. I can actually read quite well now without glasses so it would be a small adjustment to have to wear glasses only for reading.

Zenni optical is the company you're thinking of--I first heard about them on the Clark Howard radio show and he gets his from them. I told a friend of mine about them and he's really pleased with his! He got 3 pair since they're so danged cheap. That's what I'm doing next time, too.

for our glasses we generally go to sears and they have helped us like that, but on saturday night, hubby and the kids and i were at a work banquet and suddenly hubby glasses lens popped out. fortunately the screw was still there and i asked a co-worker if he had any sort of tool on him to put it back together and he had a pocket knife. so hubby got his glasses back in order.

That is a very nice thing that the walmart lady did for you - really kind of her. It's always nice to see that the world has not become a place full of selfish people!
